Chapter 1222: Offer from the Tide Empire
Chapter 1222: Offer from the Tide Empire
Even though this was where this matter ended, that didn't mean that the delegates returned to their own countries.
All four delegations from the four empires remained in our Kite Kingdom.
The reason that they gave was that they were here on a friendly inspection of our country, but I knew that the real reason was because they were here to put pressure on us to send our troops to the front lines as soon as possible.
At the same time, they were here to figure out how we defeated the detached demon army. Even if they had the reports that told them everything, the things that had happened were a bit too hard to believe that they had to send people to investigate.
That was the role of these delegates.
I didn't mind as I let them do what they wanted since there was nothing to gain from offending the four empires. Not to mention that there wasn't anything left to hide since I had already shown plenty of trump cards during the fight.
The one thing that did surprise me was that the Tide Empire asked for a meeting with me.
I had half expected them to ask for this meeting after what happened in the meeting with the four delegations. The fact that they had suddenly decided to support our Kite Kingdom was a surprising one, but it also made it clear that there was something that they wanted from us.
To my surprise, I found that it wasn't what I had expected.
"We wish to open up trade between our two countries and build a closer relationship. We're very interested in the lube that you have been selling to the Merman Empire."
The moment that the delegate said this, I immediately knitted my brows.
The trade deal that we had with the Merman Empire was supposed to be a secret, it wasn't something that the Tide Empire should have been aware of.
Yet here they were mentioning it...
As if the delegate from the Tide Empire could see what I was thinking, he took out a piece of paper and said, "This is the note from the Merman Empire. I hope that this will help explain things."
I took the note with one brow raised and I immediately knitted my brows again after I finished reading this note.
It was a simple note from the Merman King asking me to include the Tide Empire in the trades.
I couldn't help feeling unhappy with this since it was akin to being betrayed by the Merman Empire.
But once again, the delegate noticed this and said, "If possible, we should include Princess Ariel in this discussion. It will explain everything."
I narrowed my eyes to look at the delegate before calling someone to bring Ariel over.
It really seemed like the Tide Empire seemed to know everything about what happened.
I couldn't help wondering if it was because of the Tide Empire's internal intelligence network or if it really was the Merman Empire that told them everything.
In the end, it turned out that this was indeed the case.
It was the Merman Empire that told them everything.
"I forgot to mention this since the demons were coming, but my parents sent a message through the guards." Ariel said in an awkward voice.
From the message that she handed me, I learned everything that had happened.
After connecting with the Tide Empire again, the Merman Empire realized just how dangerous the war with the demons was. That was why they had told the Tide Empire everything and even had the Tide Empire back our Kite Kingdom.
It seemed that the Merman King had been able to talk to the Tide Emperor and convince him to accept this trade.
"We have a great need for the lube as well." The delegate added as if that would help.
But I slowly figured out what he meant by this.
Since they were related to the Merman Empire, they must have the same needs as them since they had the mermaid genes.
They needed the lube for the same reason, which was why they were willing to lower their heads for this matter.
I still didn't make a decision in the end since there was still another matter that was left unsolved. If we were to create this new trade with the Tide Empire, then it would be possible that they would find out about how we had manipulated them in the past.
But as if they had already expected everything, the delegate suddenly turned to Ariel to say, "Your highness, we must apologize for everything that has happened between you and that member of our Tide Empire's royal family."
After saying this, he turned to me to say, "We would also like to apologize to your majesty for the misunderstanding that it caused. We hope that you will not hold it against us."
He slid a piece of paper over on the table when his words fell.
I took it and found that it was a list of resources.
Raising a brow, I looked back up at the delegate.
With a smile he said, "Consider this compensation for the trouble that we caused."
I was immediately caught off guard by this.
Technically, we were the ones that caused problems for the Tide Empire and now they were even going as far as compensating us for it. It really felt a bit awkward with how forward they were being, but this wasn't necessarily a bad thing.
If we could use this to move on from this, then it would actually be a very good thing.
No matter what, the Tide Empire was one of the four empires of the human race and a very powerful ally to have.
If we could create a relationship with the help of the Merman Empire...
After a moment of silence, I said with a slow nod, "Let's move on from this misunderstanding. We'll need some materials for your empire, but we should be able to provide the lube that you require."
The delegate just gave a simple nod with a smile on his face in response.
