Chapter 13: Snapped
- Glyndon Walton: (Song of the chapter: Okay by Chase Atlantic)
It felt so damn good watching Kathrine standing there, completely humiliated.
The way she held those broken earphones, staring down at them like her entire world had shattered… It was like watching a fragile little bird realize it couldn't fly.
Her face twisted with hurt, but it was her silence that screamed the loudest.
Everyone around us laughed, the sound rising like a wave crashing against her.
The rest of the party was in chaos, a buzz of energy that seemed to feed off her misery.
Some were filming, others were texting their friends.
Hell, I saw a couple of people snap pictures and post them on Instagram stories.
The hashtags were probably already trending—#KathrineTheLoser, #PityParty, and who knows what else. She was like a game to us.
A sport.
I grabbed my phone too, not wanting to be left out. With a wicked grin, I snapped a quick picture of Kathrine standing there, utterly defeated.
Her ripped earphones in hand, the beer dripping off her clothes like a reminder of how little she mattered here.
I didn't even care that she might see.
She wasn't even looking up—she didn't even seem to know I existed at that moment. It was as if she had completely disappeared into her misery.
I wasn't done though. I sent the picture to my followers, and added a clever little caption, "When you realize your first paycheck means jack."
And just like that, I was part of the mob, adding fuel to the fire. It was delicious. I could feel the power in the air—the power I had over her.
I heard Alex laughing so hard " The lesbian took the golden shower the wrong way." Everyone laughed so loud at his joke.
Then, just as I was about to take another drink, I saw something I didn't expect.
Out of nowhere, some guy shot forward from the crowd.
He was tall, built like a brick wall, and moving fast—too fast for anyone to stop him. Before I even knew what was happening, he landed a punch square in Alex's face. "You don't get to talk about my sister like that"
My heart dropped. I didn't have to look twice to know who this guy was. He was Kathrine's twin brother, Nicolas.
"She's not a joke! And you don't get to bully her! I'm fucking sick of it." He landed a punch so hard on Alex's face that made his mask fly out.
The resemblance was wow—same dark hair, same piercing eyes, and damn near the same height.
If anything, he had a few inches on Kathrine, but it was clear they were related.
They were both stunning, in that effortless way that made people stop and stare.
But now, Nicolas was pissed—no, he was furious. I could see it in the way he moved, the way his fist landed against Alex's face with such force.
The sound of the punch echoed in the room, and I swear, the entire party went silent for a second.
Then everything erupted. Alex and Nicolas were both on the ground, fists flying, words just as brutal as their punches.
"What's the matter, Nik? Are you a little sensitive? Can't handle the truth? She's a fucking embarrassment!" The rest of Alex's crew rushed in to break them apart, pulling Nicolas off Alex while others grabbed Alex to keep him from retaliating.
I was frozen for a moment, my mind struggling to process what had just happened.
Kathrine snapped out of her daze, her hands still clutching the broken earphones as she looked up at the chaos.
I saw the flash of realization cross her face, but she didn't make a move—not until she looked at me.
When her eyes met mine, I felt a shiver race down my spine.
There was something in her gaze that I had never seen before—something cold, something sharp.
It wasn't the broken, pathetic girl I had bullied all this time.
This was a side of Kathrine I hadn't known existed. She wasn't afraid anymore. She wasn't helpless. And it scared the hell out of me.
Her eyes were filled with fire now, and for the first time, I felt the weight of her stare like it was a warning.
Something bad was coming for me.
I could feel it in the pit of my stomach, a gnawing sense of dread.
I had been cruel to her for so long, pushed her to the edge, and now… now I was terrified of what she was going to do next.
As the fight broke up, Kathrine stepped forward, but she didn't look at anyone else.
She was laser-focused on Nicolas, guiding him with Nancy away from the scene while he was screaming at the top of his lungs
"You're the embarrassment, Alex! You don't know shit about her, and you sure as hell don't get to disrespect her like this!"
"Nicolas, stop! Don't do this! Please, just calm down!" Nancy begged while pulling her boyfriend away from the fight.
"No, Nancy! He's not going to get away with it anymore! I'm not letting him talk about my sister like that, Nancy!"
There was no pleading, no cowering. Kathrine just took him by the arm and led him out of the house, her face set in a look of resolve.
I turned back to the group, still processing what had just happened, and the realization hit me hard—something in her just snapped.
And I had no idea what was coming next.
Alex, on the other hand, was seething.
He was swearing under his breath, trying to wipe the blood from his lip while the others patched him up.
He looked pissed off, but there was something else in his eyes—something that told me he knew he had just crossed a line.
I didn't say anything. I didn't even want to. I just kept my eyes on the door where Kathrine and Nicolas had disappeared.
I could still feel her gaze on me, like an imprint in my mind, and it made my skin crawl.
The rest of the group circled Alex, trying to reassure him, but all I could think about was Kathrine's eyes.
I knew I'd never forget that look. It was a look of power, and it made my blood run cold.
