Sir, Your Wife Has Signed For You

Chapter 6: Chapter 6: The Golden Boy and the Jade Girl

A year later.

The last class of the morning concluded, and the students gradually left the classroom.

Qin Shuang rested her chin in her hand, gazing at the lively world outside the window, and her lips involuntarily curved into a smile.

She had finally returned.

That nightmarish summer last year had completely altered the direction of her life. She had been forced to take a year off and had gone to great lengths to appease He Zhiyao to earn the chance to return to school.

Fortunately, He Zhiyao had pulled some strings to allow her to take the final exams for her junior year, so she didn't have to repeat the year and was directly promoted to her senior year.

With only half a year of classes and a light schedule in her senior year, she would soon be able to start her internship and enter the workforce.

She was eager to start earning money, and then she could, a bit sooner…

"Shuangshuang, what are you daydreaming about out there?" Her roommate Xu Lin shook a book in front of her eyes and, pointing at the corner of Qin Shuang's lips, asked with a chuckle, "You're all smiles—whom are you thinking about? Speaking of which, you disappeared for a whole year, and now you're back. Have you contacted that handsome guy from our Business Management department?"

As she spoke, Xu Lin seemed to remember something and stared at Qin Shuang with an inquisitive look: "You two were practically an item for nearly two years, got together shortly after freshman year started, and were known throughout A University as the perfect match. But you vanished without a word last year. Don't you know? During the summer break, he phoned every classmate, and at the start of the term, he waited for you every day down at our dormitory, even moving the dorm supervisor to say she'd find Gu Nanzhong someone else if he stopped waiting…"

Xu Lin suddenly clamped her mouth shut, cautiously glancing at Qin Shuang.

Qin Shuang's expression remained unchanged, as if she heard nothing, tidied up the books on her desk, stood up, and flashed a faint smile at Xu Lin: "Let's go. It's time for lunch."

"Yeah, yeah, let's hurry." Xu Lin, aware that she had misspoken, quickly linked arms with Qin Shuang and walked outside.

It wasn't until Qin Shuang had bought her meal and sat down in the dining hall that she dared to let that name flit through her mind.

Gu Nanzhong.

How much she missed him.

The fingers holding her chopsticks slowly tightened. She really missed him so much.

While they were eating, two other roommates, Li Mingxi and Chen Meng, came over and sat beside them.

"Oh my, am I seeing things? Is that really you, Qin Shuang? Where have you been this past year?" Chen Meng sat down while sizing up Qin Shuang as if trying to glean something from her face, her gaze uncomfortably straightforward.

Qin Shuang looked up at her and responded indifferently, "Nowhere in particular, just some family matters."

"Family matters? That doesn't explain why your phone number was canceled…" Clearly unsatisfied with the answer, Chen Meng's tone carried a probing edge.

"Why you gotta be so nosy?" Xu Lin exclaimed.

Then, the usually quiet Li Mingxi spoke up, "Qin Shuang, there's a small gathering tonight at 8 at Mingyue Clubhouse. You haven't seen everyone for a long time, so come along, Gu Nanzhong will be there too."

The chopsticks in Qin Shuang's hand clattered onto the table.

Chen Meng laughed, "Qin Shuang, you're not going to chicken out, are you? If you're climbing the social ladder and planning to dump Gu Nanzhong, at least let him know. Don't hold him back…"

"Okay," Qin Shuang picked up her chopsticks and placed them on her plate, then nodded at Li Mingxi, "I'll go."

Li Mingxi nodded, "See you tonight then."

She then left with her tray, and Chen Meng followed.

After the two had left, Xu Lin muttered, "Shuangshuang, why did you agree to that? It's not like you don't know what Chen Meng feels for Nanzhong…"
