Soul Land: Bibi Dong Is My Martial Soul

Chapter 92: Chapter 92: Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Eyes

Chapter 92: Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Eyes

Under Qian Renxue's guidance, Su Mo and Ning Rongrong had no trouble being admitted to the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy.

"Su Mo, Ning Rongrong, it's really you two!"

"Haha, it's fantastic that both of you joined Heaven Dou Academy!"

The three teaching committee members, Zhilin and the others, were particularly welcoming upon seeing Su Mo and Ning Rongrong.

Thus, Su Mo and Ning Rongrong successfully entered the Heaven Dou Imperial Academy. However, Su Mo didn't rush to join the Heaven Dou Battle Team. Instead, he decided to wait until he reached level 30 before making that move.

For the next two and a half months, Su Mo spent his time either accompanying Ning Rongrong in enjoying academy life or venturing out to hunt soul beasts to level up through devouring.

Buzz—

One day, after absorbing the energy of a thousand-year soul beast, Su Mo finally broke through to level 30. All that was left was to obtain a soul ring, and he would officially become a Soul Elder.

"Raksasha Sister, I've reached level 30!"

"What's the limit for my third soul ring?"

Immediately after his breakthrough, Su Mo summoned Bibi Dong and asked her directly.

Since the day he realized he viewed Bibi Dong as a mentor-like figure, someone close and trustworthy, he began calling her "Raksasha Sister." The title "Goddess Sister" had felt overly flattering, so he opted for something simpler.

Bibi Dong didn't mind at all. On the contrary, she seemed rather pleased, as it showed Su Mo was beginning to treat her with genuine respect.

"I've been keeping an eye on your progress," Bibi Dong said as her figure appeared before Su Mo. "Under normal circumstances, if you had cultivated steadily to level 30, your third soul ring's limit would be around 5,000 years."

"However, over the past few months, you've been advancing too quickly by relying on the Eight Spider Lances to devour soul beasts. While your rapid progress is impressive, it has left your soul power somewhat unstable, and your physical strength hasn't kept up."

"Therefore, your third soul ring's limit should be between 3,500 and 4,000 years."

"I see. Even so, that's double the typical limit of 1,800 years for others!" Su Mo exclaimed. "That settles it. Once I stabilize my soul power, I'll search for a suitable soul beast to hunt. There's no need to wait a year or more just to gain an extra thousand years of age for the ring."

Having received his answer, Su Mo quickly made his decision. He didn't see the point in chasing extremes and wasting time. Sometimes advancing sooner offered greater benefits for the future.

Cultivation for soul masters is fastest when they're young. Delaying breakthroughs in pursuit of higher-quality soul rings wasn't always the wisest choice. For Su Mo, the most pressing task was to secure celestial herbs as soon as possible.

"Very well. Since you've decided, stick to it," Bibi Dong said with a satisfied nod.

After a few days spent consolidating his cultivation, Su Mo prepared to set out for the Sunset Forest.

Su Mo planned to search for his third soul ring on the outskirts of the Sunset Forest. Once successful, he intended to venture deeper into the forest to locate the treasure ground known as the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Eyes.

For his third soul skill, Su Mo had already decided on a ranged attack.

What he currently lacked was a reliable means of long-range combat. Of course, this applied mainly to competitions, as outside of tournaments, Su Mo's Soul-Hunting Crossbow far outperformed any soul skill.

Likewise, his close-combat strength was formidable enough when using the integrated fighting style of his weapon spirit.

The Sunset Forest wasn't far from Heaven Dou City. It only took Su Mo half a day to arrive, and he immediately began searching for a suitable soul beast in the forest outskirts.

Hunting for a soul ring has always been a matter of luck. One must not only find a soul beast but also ensure its cultivation age is appropriate and that its abilities match the hunter's martial spirit, yielding a compatible soul skill.

For instance, members of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan must hunt dragon-type soul beasts to maximize their martial spirit's potential.

However, Su Mo had a significant advantage—Bibi Dong's assistance in scouting the area. With her sweeping the forest for him, his chances of finding a suitable soul beast increased dramatically.

"Su Mo, I've found a soul beast that suits you!"

Two days later, Bibi Dong informed Su Mo of a discovery: a soul beast called the Gold-Swallowing Beast. Its metallic attribute complemented Su Mo's abilities perfectly, and it was at just the right age of around 4,000 years—a near-perfect match.

"A Gold-Swallowing Beast. Weapon-type soul masters who absorb its soul ring typically gain one of two skills: the defensive Metallic Armor or the offensive Metallic Breath. With my Soul-Hunting Gun, it'll likely form a blade-like attack skill, which is exactly what I need."

"Let's go for it. If I end up with the defensive skill instead, that's fine too. Having a defensive soul skill isn't a bad thing."

Through Bibi Dong's vision, Su Mo soon spotted the Gold-Swallowing Beast. It looked like a cross between a pangolin and a leopard, with metallic scales glinting in the sunlight.

After observing it carefully, Su Mo made up his mind.

Hunting for soul rings often involves luck. You can't always choose the exact soul skill you want, as the same type of soul beast can yield different skills.

With his decision made, Su Mo began to stealthily approach the Gold-Swallowing Beast.

Swish—

At the same time, his Soul-Hunting Crossbow appeared in his hands.

Against a 4,000-year soul beast, the Soul-Hunting Crossbow was more than sufficient. There was no need for traps or elaborate preparations.

Even in a direct confrontation, Su Mo no longer feared a 4,000-year soul beast. However, he still preferred to avoid open combat when possible. A stealth kill would create less noise and reduce the risk of attracting other powerful soul beasts.

Thunk—

A few minutes later, a crossbow bolt shot straight into the eye of the Gold-Swallowing Beast, half of its shaft embedding itself in the creature's skull. The meter-high beast let out a final howl before collapsing to the ground, its body twitching violently as blood poured from the wound.

"Done!"

Su Mo stepped out from the shadows, calmly approaching the dying Gold-Swallowing Beast.

"So easy again…" Bibi Dong, observing from a distance, couldn't help but marvel at Su Mo's effortless hunting.

Had she not personally taught Su Mo everything he knew about martial spirits, she would've found it hard to believe he was once an ordinary person with no soul power or knowledge of soul masters.

But as Su Mo had explained, it was precisely because he had no soul power in his past life that he had learned to solve problems through other means rather than relying solely on a martial spirit.

Bibi Dong found his words strikingly accurate. The soul master world had become overly dependent on martial spirits, to the point of arrogance, where alternative methods were dismissed outright.

Thunk—

Su Mo stood before the twitching Gold-Swallowing Beast and decisively plunged his purple-gold Soul-Hunting Spear into its body, delivering the final blow.

Buzz—

Moments later, a purple thousand-year soul ring rose from the corpse, its color significantly deeper than Su Mo's second soul ring.

Wasting no time, Su Mo sat cross-legged on the ground and began absorbing the 4,000-year purple soul ring.

While Su Mo was busy refining his third soul ring, deep within the Sunset Forest, in a valley shrouded in toxic mist, Dugu Bo sat cross-legged near the legendary Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Eyes, a peculiar spring split into a cold and hot half.

Dugu Bo's complexion was ghastly. His lips were black, his face a sickly purple, and his body trembled as though he was barely suppressing immense pain.

Pfft—

Suddenly, Dugu Bo's face flushed red, and he coughed up a mouthful of blood.

Hiss—

The blood splattered onto the nearby rocks, producing corrosive sizzling sounds. It was mixed with large amounts of black and purple toxins.

"Damn it—"

"I, the Poison Douluo, titled for my mastery of poison, am I really going to die from my own poison?"

Opening his bright green eyes, Dugu Bo wiped the blood from the corner of his mouth, his expression dark and bitter.

Since being gravely injured by Tang Hao, the poison from the Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor within him had erupted uncontrollably. It was only with great effort that he had managed to reach the Ice and Fire Yin-Yang Eyes, relying on the special energy field of this place to catch his breath.

But the poison within his body had been fully unleashed. Three months of suppression hadn't helped, and he felt it was only a matter of time before the toxins overtook him completely.

If he didn't find a solution soon, he would succumb to the poison within days, becoming a laughingstock—a titled Douluo killed by his own venom.

"No! I won't give up like this. I'll try anything, no matter how desperate!"

Refusing to accept such an ironic fate, Dugu Bo's gaze fell on the lush herb garden nearby. Fixing his eyes on a particularly potent-looking herb, he plucked it without hesitation and shoved it into his mouth.

Moments later, the herb was swallowed.

Pfft—

Barely a minute had passed before Dugu Bo's eyes rolled back, and he spat another mouthful of blood. His body slumped forward, face planting into the ground.

Hiss—

From his sleeve, a small emerald-green snake slithered out, glancing back at its fallen master. After a brief moment of hesitation, the snake's eyes darted around before it slithered away, disappearing into the mist.

It seemed the snake had given up, assuming its master would never wake again.
