Chapter 106: Chapter 106: War God Hall, Step In to Clean Up!
The next morning, Jing Shaoyu awoke to the familiar sight of two familiar faces beside him. Xu Xiaoyan was still asleep, her small face nestled against his chest with a serene, slightly dazed expression, occasionally pursing her lips in an adorable manner.
Gu Yue, however, was already awake, her bright, clear eyes staring intently at him. When she noticed he was awake, a subtle shift flickered in her gaze, a mixture of shyness and greeting.
"Good morning," Jing Shaoyu whispered.
"Good morning." Gu Yue's voice was soft, but she didn't move from her place leaning on his right side. She asked, "Shaoyu, was that phoenix-shaped flame you released yesterday?"
"Yes." Jing Shaoyu didn't try to hide it, figuring she'd find out sooner or later. "It was a defensive technique left to me by my teacher."
"And was that fire that defeated the evil Soul Douluo also part of it?" Gu Yue's eyes glimmered as she continued questioning.
"No, it wasn't," Jing Shaoyu said, noticing her curiosity. "That was likely my teacher's personal power."
"Oh." Gu Yue fell silent.
Jing Shaoyu chuckled and asked, "Would you like to meet my teacher someday?"
"No," Gu Yue replied decisively. "My goal has always been the Spirit Pagoda."
Jing Shaoyu's smile grew. "Alright, follow your heart."
He was already eagerly anticipating the day his teacher, Leng Yaozhu, met Gu Yue. He imagined her reaction would be priceless.
Just then, Xu Xiaoyan stirred awake. Half-asleep, she asked drowsily, "Shaoyu, what time is it?"
Later that morning, at ten o'clock, the East Sea Academy group arrived at the Shanshui City bus station, opting for a mid-distance bus ride instead of a Soul Guide train after yesterday's accident.
As they waited, the Soul Elder who had followed them to Shanshui City reappeared, accompanied by an imposing elderly man. Wu Zhangkong immediately noticed them and stood up instinctively, prompting the Zero Class students to look over as well.
"Isn't that…" Xie Xie squinted. "The Soul Elder who's been following us? Who's that old man with him?"
"He seems important," Tang Wulin agreed.
Jing Shaoyu and the others didn't respond, though they watched closely. Jing Shaoyu felt an unusual energy from the elder, sensing he might be someone significant.
"Sir, it's him." The Soul Elder quickly approached the group, respectfully pointing to Wu Zhangkong and addressing the elder.
"Alright, you may go," the elder said, dismissing him without even glancing in his direction.
The Soul Elder looked visibly relieved as he turned and left without looking back.
"And what business do you have with us?" Wu Zhangkong asked, his tone slightly tense. He could feel a pressure from the elder, indicating he was likely a Soul Douluo of level 85 or higher.
"You're Wu Zhangkong from East Sea Academy," the elder nodded approvingly before his tone turned sharp. "I am Nangong Xiong, tenth seat of the War God Hall and an Elder of the Federation's Eastern Judiciary."
Wu Zhangkong's pupils contracted slightly. He quickly straightened and respectfully greeted him, "So it's Your Excellency Nangong! It's an honor to meet you."
As a former star pupil of Shrek Academy, Wu Zhangkong was aware of the significance of the War God Hall and the Federation's Judiciary.
The War God Hall was the Federation's core combat force, an elite group of immensely powerful soul masters. In addition to the hall's main and vice commanders, it comprised only eighteen official members, each a titled War God and a Soul Douluo or stronger.
As the tenth seat, Nangong Xiong ranked among these elite War Gods, with a soul power of at least level 94. His role as the Eastern Judiciary Elder meant he was the Federation's main authority in the eastern region, handling high-profile threats such as evil soul masters.
"Ah, it seems you're well-informed." Nangong Xiong's eyes sparkled with approval. "That will make things easier. I'm here regarding yesterday's train incident. As the strongest person on that train, you fought directly with the evil soul master leader. I need to ask you some questions."
"I understand." Wu Zhangkong nodded, fully prepared to cooperate. The two began talking, though somehow, the surrounding people, including Long Hengxu and the Zero Class students, could no longer hear them. All they could see were their lips moving, with Wu Zhangkong speaking steadily while Nangong Xiong looked alternately surprised and pensive. The mystery of it all left Xie Xie scratching his head impatiently.
"Why the secrecy?" Xie Xie muttered, frustrated. "What's going on that they're hiding?"
"Xie Xie, keep calm," Long Hengxu scolded sternly, his teacherly instincts kicking in as he saw Xie Xie's restless behavior.
"Fine…" Xie Xie grumbled reluctantly. Sitting beside Tang Wulin, he looked around curiously. "Do any of you know what this War God Hall is? Or this Judiciary division? They sound important—I've never seen Teacher Wu so respectful before."
Tang Wulin shook his head. "I don't know."
Xie Xie rolled his eyes and sighed. "Do you really think I was asking you?"
Tang Wulin just scratched his head, laughing awkwardly.
"Captain, Xiaoyan, do you know?" Xie Xie turned to Jing Shaoyu and Xu Xiaoyan.
"I'm not sure," Xu Xiaoyan replied, turning to Jing Shaoyu. "Shaoyu, do you?"
"I know a bit," Jing Shaoyu said thoughtfully. "The War God Hall is said to be the Federation's ultimate force. Only Soul Masters at the Titled Douluo level or above are eligible to join."
"Titled Douluo!" Xie Xie's eyes widened in amazement. "Whoa, I'm actually seeing a Titled Douluo? This is unreal! Wulin, a Titled Douluo is the level all soul masters dream of reaching!"
"We saw one yesterday, didn't we?" Tang Wulin reminded him.
"Not the same thing!" Xie Xie objected. "That was an evil Titled Douluo. But this elder here is a real Titled Douluo! I wonder if I'll be younger than him when I reach that rank!"
"Of course, you will," Tang Wulin teased.
"Ha! That's the spirit, Wulin!" Xie Xie laughed, giving him a hearty pat on the back.
Meanwhile, Jing Shaoyu, Gu Yue, and Xu Xiaoyan were having a more subdued conversation.
"Shaoyu, why do you think this elder, Nangong Xiong, is talking to Teacher Wu?" Xu Xiaoyan asked.
"It's likely because of the evil soul master attack on the train yesterday," Jing Shaoyu replied. "A train attack is a serious incident. The Federation and the Tianhai Alliance would need to respond."
Gu Yue's gaze grew thoughtful. "Shaoyu, what is the origin of the War God Hall?"
"I don't know much," Jing Shaoyu admitted with a wry smile. "I only know it's a powerful organization."
Jing Shaoyu wasn't lying; his understanding of the War God Hall was limited. His fragmented memories from his past life only provided a few details, and they were vague at best, possibly because the War God Hall only
became prominent later in the story.
The two fell silent, with Gu Yue merely murmuring, "I see."
