Chapter 57: 57) Magneto's Successor
"I'm sure you know Captain America and his story already," asked Vulcan.
"I do," replied 3D-Man still a bit skeptical.
"Well, after the success he showed by stopping World War 2 and Hydra, they didn't want to stop there, but unfortunately, the formula could no longer be found. They already knew it was possible, though, so they searched for candidates, and after 1953, when a large group of volunteers all died horrible deaths, it, as you could imagine, made finding willing people very difficult," continued Vulcan.
"What does that have to do with me?" questioned 3D-Man.
"The government and its greed to make their own personal superpowered army to so-called'stop the Russians' led them to more drastic measures. They took people from the streets and used them as guinea pigs to replicate their old success. They eventually had a few successes, but then they strived for even greater powers. They took you from your family like you were livestock; to them, you were nothing but a side project. They didn't care about you, your feelings, let alone your loved ones, before dumping you back when they deemed you a 'failure'. Why do you think so many people who claim to see aliens don't live for very long? It's because they were sort of correct. Instead of aliens, it was your own kind that tampered with your body." continued Vulcan.
"You expect me to believe that?" replied 3D-Man in denial.
"I have all the proof you need; your friend Quicksilver went through the same as you in Russia," he replied, throwing over an opened phone. "They gave us powers to fight against the gods talked about in myths, so why not sit on the thrones they so desperately try to tell us we don't deserve?" he added.
"You're killing thousands of people! What gives us the right to have power over everyone just because we went through some pain when we can use that to show them we're better than them?" replied 3D-Man.
"We tried. We made contact with them a year ago, and we pleaded for them to stop their exploits and experiments and to grant us the peaceful lives we dreamed about." He paused for a bit, clenching his hand in anger. "They turned us down and instead responded by trying to eradicate us," he added.
"A year ago?" 3D-Man muttered as it sounded familiar before he realized. "You were with Magneto?" he yelled.
"Yes, I was. He treated me like family, something I was denied. It wasn't your heroes that saved me that night, but the person you called an insane and bloodlusting monster. We tried the easy way, but if this is the only way to make change, then I don't mind getting my hands bloodied," replied Vulcan.
"I need some time to think," said 3D. Man, unsure what he should do.
"I have endured more pain and torture than most could imagine, but it has only strengthened my resolve. My path to a utopia may be seen as cruel and heartless, but it is the only way to cleanse the ugliness that resides here and create true peace, and I hope you can see that," added Vulcan before taking another pastry from the shop and sitting down to eat.
QUICKSILVER
Quicksilver slowly opened his eyes and lifted his head to see the holes he had made from his fight. He groaned while trying to stand up, to no success as he slumped back down against the car as broken glass covered his hair. Most of his bones had completely shattered, especially his legs and feet.
He looked up to the air, thinking about what would have happened if Capt. didn't save him or someone else did.
"VICTOR!" yelled a family voice.
"OVER HERE!" he yelled in response.
Captain America came running from a corner and headed towards Quicksilver. "I told you to be careful with your powers," he nagged while placing him on his shoulder.
"I had no choice, but a win is a win," he replied with a sheepish grin.
There was silence for a moment. "I'm proud of you, kid. You did good," replied Capt.
"Captain," said Quicksilver.
"Yeah?" questioned Capt.
"We need to talk. After this is all over," asked Quicksilver.
The captain was a bit taken aback. "Sure, whether you want," he replied while dragging him into a nearby building and setting him down somewhere safe.
"What's the situation looking like?" asked Quicksilver.
"Well, Tony ran into some trouble with some old friends and is now waiting for a new suit to arrive," replied Capt, staying in silence for a while before continuing. "Sadly, it would seem Behemoth has passed fighting Sabertooth, but at least he can rest knowing Spider-Man and Hawkgirl got their payback," he added.
"Dam," replied Quicksilver, upset.
Capt saw how Quicksilver started to feel down and decided to move the conversation somewhere else. "Anyway, how's it going, that girl? What was her name? Vanessa?" asked Capt.
"She's called Hailey," giggled Quicksilver. "It didn't work out; the whole unknown but imminent death thing wasn't exactly her kink," he joked.
"Tony will find a way to help you. I don't want you to ever give up on living the life you want," replied Capt.
"I know. But it still scares me. I don't know when it will happen; all I know is that it will happen soon, whether it's in 2 seconds or 1 month. It's still so... near. I don't want my life to be wasted, and I still want to cling on for as long as possible and have the family I want. Like I dreamed of when I was stuck in that cell," replied Quicksilver.
"Your dream will come true soon enough; I'm sure of it!" exclaimed Capt sternly. Quicksilver, holding Quicksilver's shoulders.
"Captain America, come out to play! It's time to meet your long-lost family!" Yelled a voice from the road.
"I gotta go," said Capt., confused and serious.
"Go wild; I won't be going anywhere anytime soon anyway, so don't worry," replied Quicksilver.
Capt smiled in response before getting up to his feet and heading towards the street, ready to confront the voice.
