Chapter 4: A Child Shall Be Born
Forenus sent out one of the tendrils towards the boy who blocked it with his hands. However, the water continued moving and enveloped his whole body in its grasp.
The Marquis pushed his hand forward and sent the boy flying into the side of the mountain, crashing so hard that it caused it to shake.
For a few brief moments, nothing happened and so he sighed and began to walk towards where the servants took the princess.
However, this was only a short-lived respite as the boy leaped out of the crater made from his body and right in front of Forenus. "That took a while, sorry! What did you do?"
He had bright curious eyes and seemed rather excited at the display at hand rather than frightened. Forenus did say he would educate him after all and as a noble, he had to uphold his end of the deal.
"Magick, the ability to manipulate, create, destroy or control any natural phenomenon using signs and symbols. For example."
Forenus snapped his fingers as the water vapor around the boy instantly flash-froze, trapping him in a block of ice.
"How well are you able to-" His eyebrows furrowed. He saw that cracks began to form in the ice. In an instant, he backed away just in time for the boy to break out of his cold prison.
"Wow, that's so cool!" He laughed at his little joke before grabbing at the pieces of ice around him and throwing them at Forenus.
The Marquis's interest continued to be piqued. He swiftly took control of the pieces of ice, stopping them right before they would have hit him.
"You certainly are a tough one… let's continue." Forenus clapped his hands together. Immediately, the air around the boy grew deathly hot to the point that it started to become plasma!
This is the terrifying Magick of the Great Marquis. The ability to completely control water and its states so effectively, as if it were an extension of himself.
The young boy's body was completely covered by the plasma. It burned him from head to toe, yet he did not scream. Painful as it was, he had to withstand it.
And so, even if it had the potency to vaporize a man completely, his body simply had to endure it to save his mother.
"Oh, that's really powerful! But I still need to defeat you!" He lunged forward at Forenus who batted away his hands, but thanks to his own Magick, they were supercharged with plasma.
"How long can you last like that? You're burning alive as we speak." Forenus caught one of the boy's punches in his hands. For he, too, could withstand the heat.
"I would survive for a thousand years like this if it means to save my kingdom!"
The Great Marquis's mouth curled up into a smile. If the cold and heat would not stop him, then perhaps he should use something much more hands on.
He waved off the plasma surrounding the boy, who was once more completely naked, and that's when something caught Forenus's eyes.
"You…" He pointed at the boy's lower half.
"Have nothing down there."
The young man looked down at where Forenus pointed before he nodded. "Yes, but I think I'll grow one out soon!"
Forenus was lost in thought, stunned as he began to remember the prophecy of the Promised Prince. One line in particular:
"Of both male and female."
The child looked much like a girl but called themselves the son of his target: Myrym. Now to discover that they also possess no genitalia and immense power.
It all began to line up. This was definitely no ordinary boy. This could be someone destined to be the child of the prophecy.
Forenus laid his hand down. "I see… that's how it is."
"How what is?"
"How this shall play out." The Great Marquis turned to look at the young man.
"I offer you a truce. I have no need for your mother anymore. Instead, you are much more valuable to me. How about we become allies instead? You desire to be king, correct?"
The boy shook his head. "I'm already king."
He stood proud, even if he was without clothes. "But, having more people that recognize that they should be with me is great! Does that mean you won't chase my mother anymore?"
Forenus nodded his head. "Correct, I will not chase her if you choose to ally yourself with me. Especially with an upcoming battle. I will write up a full document soon, but right now I call for a truce on this matter."
He meant it. If this child really was a candidate for the prophecy, he needed to act fast and capitalize on their potential as soon as possible.
The young man thought about it for a moment. His mom's safety is at the top of his mind, and if it's just in exchange for a new ally, then he might as well do so; it's an amazing deal, honestly.
"I agree with the truce."
Forenus lowered his hand as the sea around him calmed down. "Very well, I shall return in a day's time to offer the full contract. In the meantime, take care."
He waved the boy goodbye as he commanded the water to bring him to his ship, where he climbed on board and set out to the sea.
The boy smiled and waved him goodbye. "See you soon! Take care!"
They turned around and began to walk, now on to their next mission: to find and take care of his mother.
