Chapter 57 - The True Origin of Decade Drive, Is Qin Yu the Real Protagonist?
Qing Mu had been living in this world for over a decade.
His past memories had long been diluted.
Most of the memories in his mind belonged to this current lifetime.
In his heart, Su He was his biological mother, and Qin Yu was his biological father.
His name was Qing Mu.
But now someone was telling him.
His mother was fake.
His father was the mastermind behind all the trouble.
The warm family, the loving parents, were nothing but false illusions.
This heavy blow left Qing Mu at a loss.
He even began to doubt if this world was unreal.
Was he living in a dream?
Lin Zhendong cast a pitying gaze at Qing Mu.
“I know this is very hard to accept, but this is the truth, Qing Mu. The truth is often hard to swallow, isn’t it?”
Although Qing Mu possessed unparalleled power, enough to make the whole world tremble at his feet, at this moment, he was just a deceived child.
Lin Qianqian approached with a tea tray.
She had no idea about everything Lin Zhendong had just revealed.
She was hearing it for the first time too.
Seeing Qing Mu, who used to be so strong and confident, now showing such a defeated look, she couldn’t help but feel sympathy for him.
She never expected that even someone as powerful as Qing Mu could have such a bizarre background and experiences.
“Have some tea.”
Lin Qianqian gently placed a teacup in front of Qing Mu and poured a cup of clear tea for him first.
Then she poured tea for her father, Lin Zhendong.
The rich aroma of the tea filled the air in an instant.
It was so refreshing that it put one’s mind at ease.
Just by smelling it, one could tell that this was exceptionally fine tea leaves.
But Qing Mu had no interest in drinking tea now.
No matter how good the tea leaves were placed in front of him, it tasted bland to him.
After a long silence, Qing Mu asked, “What about my father? Is his identity real?”
He was now afraid that even his father Qin Yu’s identity might be fake.
If that were the case.
Then he really had to ask himself, who am I, where am I, and what do I need to do?
“Your father’s identity is solid, all his records and experiences match up. But there’s one thing you may not know.”
“What?”
Qing Mu’s eyelid twitched.
He felt that Lin Zhendong might be about to drop another bombshell that would stimulate his nerves.
“Through our investigation, we found that your father was once a member of the New World Organization, and he was even a key member.”
“The New World Organization? What on earth is that? I’ve never heard of it.”
Qing Mu was completely speechless about his biological father Qin Yu.
He was a member of Eternal Technology Inc., had ties to the Underworld organization, and now suddenly, there was this New World Organization popping up.
It seemed like his biological father, Qin Yu, had a strong penchant for joining various organizations and factions.
He wondered what the benefit was in joining so many factions.
Was it just to earn more income?
Lin Zhendong explained slowly:
“The New World was a mysterious organization that was active about twenty years ago.”
“Most of its members were a group of young geniuses.”
“They publicly claimed that the world was about to face a terrifying catastrophe, and it would ultimately turn into a wasteland. In this wasteland, a completely new world would be established.”
“The name ‘New World Organization’ comes from this idea.”
“They claimed that the purpose of their organization was to guide people through this disaster and welcome the arrival of a new world.”
“Due to the passage of time and the fact that the New World Organization didn’t operate openly, very few people know about it now.”
“Even I only learned about this organization while investigating your father’s identity.”
Listening to Lin Zhendong’s description, Qing Mu couldn’t help but think of the mysterious organization, the Alchemists of Altea, that appeared in the Gaia Ultraman series.
The similarities between the two were striking.
Both were composed of young super geniuses.
Both were established to address an impending world-destroying catastrophe.
The difference was that the Alchemists of Altea were well-known in the world of Gaia Ultraman, with members spanning various fields, including the human hosts of Ultramen like Gaia and Agul.
In contrast, this New World Organization seemed to have faded into obscurity, as if it had been submerged by the tides of time.
Qing Mu asked, “This New World Organization sounds impressive. So why is there no trace of it now? Did it disband?”
Lin Zhendong continued:
“Yes, the New World Organization disbanded.”
“Because at that time, the monster catastrophe had not yet occurred, and people didn’t believe in the New World Organization. What they advocated was also easily disruptive to the stability of various countries and societies, leading to negative consequences.”
“So, various countries united to suppress the New World Organization, making it impossible for its members to move freely, ultimately forcing them to disband.”
“Most of those super-genius members went underground, while a small number of them were recruited and absorbed by various powerful forces in different countries and domains.”
“To be frank, among the main developers of the Knight System in our Dragon Country, there are quite a few who were once members of the New World Organization.”
“They were old friends with your father and have some knowledge of his past.”
“I made some calls to inquire, and almost everyone is very certain of your father’s talents. They say your father is the most formidable and top-notch talent in the world, no matter which aspect you look at.”
Since his visit to Eternal Technology Inc.,
Qing Mu knew.
His father, Qin Yu, was impressive and formidable beyond his imagination.
This was like taking the template of the chosen hero in a typical storyline. In a normal plot, Qin Yu would undoubtedly be the hero who saved the world and received adoration from the masses. But step by step, he had become a figure resembling a major antagonist.
This was something Qing Mu had never anticipated.
The gap between the two roles was monumental.
Qing Mu fell into silence again, digesting the information he had just received. Lin Zhendong and Lin Qianqian didn’t rush him, allowing him to collect his thoughts.
After a long while, Qing Mu lifted the teacup in front of him and took a sip.
“Uncle, thank you for sharing all of this with me. It has given me a deeper understanding of my father’s past. Tonight’s conversation has been very enlightening for me.”
“You’re welcome. This is information you should have known, Qing Mu. I’ve shared all this with you because I want you to understand your own identity and background. Your parents’ backgrounds are very complex, and I don’t want to see anyone take advantage of you because of their identities.”
In plain terms, Lin Zhendong’s purpose in sharing all this information was to make sure Qing Mu understood that his parents might not be good people. Qing Mu had to remain firm in his own convictions and not be led down a dark path because of his parents’ backgrounds.
Although Qing Mu didn’t fully grasp Lin Zhendong’s thoughts, he had a general sense of it. He was still very grateful to Lin Zhendong. If it weren’t for him, he might never have learned any of these things.
“I understand,” Qing Mu replied with a heavy tone. The sudden influx of so much information had left him feeling somewhat uncomfortable.
At this moment, Lin Qianqian brought up a question, “By the way, Qing Mu, you mentioned that Decade Drive was given to you by your father, right? What was the significance of him giving it to you? This Drive’s power is so immense, why didn’t he use it himself?”
“To be honest, I’m not entirely sure of the reasons, and Decade Drive wasn’t given to me directly by him, but…” Qing Mu paused, recalling the day he received Decade Drive.
On that day, his parents weren’t at home.
He had sneaked into Qin Yu’s study to play games.
And there, he had stumbled upon a crumpled piece of paper on the desk.
Unfolding the paper, he found a few numbers written on it, as if it were a password.
There weren’t many things in the house that required a password.
The first thing that came to Qing Mu’s mind wasn’t a safe’s combination but rather some encrypted software or document on the computer.
Out of curiosity, Qing Mu spent a while searching the computer, but he couldn’t find any encrypted software or documents.
He couldn’t find it on the computer.
So Qing Mu had to search elsewhere in the house.
That’s when he found the safe.
And it opened with the combination.
Upon careful recollection, Qing Mu realized that he hadn’t stumbled upon Decade Drive by chance at all. His parents had intentionally wanted to give it to him, but they took a slightly roundabout way.
“Why didn’t they just give Decade Drive directly to me? Why did they choose to pass it on in this manner? Is there some hidden truth behind this? And why did they leave without a word? Did they not have the time to send a message or make a call before disappearing? What were they up to?”
These questions raised enormous doubts in Qing Mu’s mind, and apart from his parents, it seemed that no one could provide him with accurate answers.
Seeing Qing Mu suddenly lost in thought, Lin Qianqian reached out and waved her hand in front of his eyes. “Qing Mu, did you remember something?”
“To be honest, I don’t know why my parents gave me Decade Drive, and they didn’t even contact me before disappearing. If I had known any reasons or information, I wouldn’t have rushed to the police station.”
Thinking back to the moment he had gone to the police station to report the disappearance, Qing Mu couldn’t help but mock his own naivety.
The fact that Qin Yu had Decade Drive and had gone missing meant that this was a problem beyond the capabilities of ordinary humans. Reporting it to the police would have been futile.
Lin Zhendong didn’t dwell on whether Qing Mu’s words were true or false because it was pointless. If Qing Mu knew something but chose not to share it, there was little he could do. After all, with Qing Mu’s power, he could easily break out of the Yancheng Defense Base, so there was no need to embarrass himself.
Lin Zhendong said politely, “Qing Mu, we now have common enemies, the Underworld organization and, to some extent, Eternal Technology Inc. I hope our future cooperation can proceed smoothly without unnecessary conflicts or friction. If you have any needs, please feel free to ask. I will do my best to fulfill your requests.”
“Of course, I won’t stand on ceremony with you,” Qing Mu momentarily set aside the heavy thoughts and managed a polite smile. “By the way, Uncle, what’s the status of the investigation into Eternal Technology Inc.? Have you found any evidence?”
Upon hearing this, Lin Zhendong’s expression turned regretful:
“You might be disappointed, Qing Mu. So far, we haven’t been able to uncover the things you mentioned. We did visit the underground base you mentioned, but it seems they cleared it out overnight. We didn’t find any relevant clues. While many traces at the scene could suggest certain issues, they are still circumstantial and cannot be used as concrete evidence. Unfortunately, we still can’t do much about Eternal Technology Inc. We have to closely monitor them and wait for them to slip up.”
“I didn’t expect them to be so efficient in cleaning up such a large underground base so quickly. It seems they are quite formidable,” Qing Mu replied with a hint of sarcasm in his smile. It wasn’t clear whether he was mocking Eternal Technology Inc. or the Yancheng Defense Base, or perhaps both.
Lin Zhendong found it hard to maintain his composure. His expression became awkward. He was puzzled by how such a massive underground base could be cleaned out so swiftly. Although they had surveillance points set up around Eternal Technology Inc., they had detected no unusual activity. Despite his doubts, Lin Zhendong ultimately chose to continue trusting Qing Mu.
“Eternal Technology Inc. is a formidable force, and they are one of the major taxpayers in our Dragon Country, providing over three hundred thousand jobs. Any disruption in their operations could cause significant shockwaves in Dragon Country. Until we have concrete evidence, we can’t make a move. It’s regrettable, and we’ve wasted the information you provided.”
“No worries. A turtle can’t keep its head in its shell forever; it will eventually stick it out. We’ll have opportunities to catch them making mistakes in the future, so don’t be disheartened,” Qing Mu remarked. His conflict with Eternal Technology Inc. was out in the open and irreconcilable. It would only end when one side fell completely.
Lin Qianqian chuckled at Qing Mu’s metaphor. “Your comparison is amusing. If the people from Eternal Technology Inc. ever find out, they’ll be furious.”
Ignoring Lin Qianqian’s remark, Qing Mu turned to Lin Zhendong with another question. “By the way, Uncle, do you know a woman from Eternal Technology Inc. named Lì huā?”
“I do. She’s the newly appointed head at Eternal Technology Inc., a very capable woman. I’ve had a few dealings with her, and she’s not easy to approach.” Despite Lì huā’s stunning beauty and allure, Lin Zhendong spoke of her with nothing but apprehension. It seemed he had some unpleasant experiences with her.
“If I told you I wanted to meet her, could you arrange it for me? It would be best if she didn’t know that I want to see her, or she might try to escape,” Qing Mu inquired.
When Qing Mu had previously caused a commotion at the Eternal Technology Inc. underground base, Lì huā had managed to escape. This time, Qing Mu was determined to catch her and gather more information about his father, Qin Yu.
Faced with Qing Mu’s request, Lin Zhendong appeared hesitant. “This might be challenging. I suspect Lì huā is already aware that we are investigating Eternal Technology Inc. Given the circumstances, she probably won’t show up easily, at most, she might communicate with me remotely. If you insist on meeting her, I can attempt it, and I’ll notify you when there’s any news. Is that acceptable?”
