Stealing My Way To Power

Chapter 3: Burn

With that parting comment, the screen in front of him went away. There was a brief moment in which Cole thought everything that happened to him was just a hallucination from the stress of everything. Then the screen came back.

[The Host has gained The Perfect Template Card Of Kaito Kid.]

A card appeared in his hands like it had always been there. There was no shine of light or any other flashy display to showcase this item's arrival. No, the item just showed up in his hands. The card felt like any other card with a sort of laminated texture. The card displayed Kaito Kid with a cocky grin on his face dressed up in his iconic outfit. For a moment Cole saw Kaito winking at him but the sight was so quick that it might have been in his head.

Other than that moment the card seemed utterly mundane. He was familiar with the concept of a Character Template Card. It was one of those things that showed up in the various novels he had read. This card should allow him to synch up with Kaito Kid and gain his abilities the more he resonates with the card.

Since this card is a perfect one he should have all of Kaito's abilities right off the bat. Yet, he was not feeling any stronger and he certainly did not know any magic tricks to dazzle an audience.

Again he felt his heart dropping in his chest. Maybe without the Character Template System, this card was completely useless. He gritted his teeth as that would fit his luck taking something really good but not being able to use it.

Whatever it was just one setback. Sure he would have preferred getting something that would help him but he could make do. All he had to do was steal things. With each theft, he would get closer to getting Tammi out of there…He just wished this theft would have been the one to do it for him.

[The System appreciates the Host's enthusiasm about theft but once more the the System needs to clear up a misconception. The System won't deny that it can take things that the Host can not use but this one is not one of those things.]

Cole looked over at the screen in front of him with hope blooming in his chest again. He was already planning out some petty thefts to get some energy but this message scrapped those plans. He looked over at the card in his hands trying to figure out how to use this thing.

He put it against his forehead while thinking about merging with the card. After an awkward moment of him posing in the street, he figured that this method was not going to work for him. He let out a sigh and was preparing to try another method but then looked around him with an dull look on his face.

The street he was on was not busy but there were certainly people walking around minding their own business. He was trying to merge with the Character Card right in front of an audience. If he did manage to do that he might as well just out himself as a Cape right from the bat.

He felt his cheeks starting to heat up as he was being fucking stupid but he got caught up in the moment. Thank god he did not manage to figure out the method of using it yet.

He started to walk quickly away from the place he was standing before, trying not to make eye contact with anyone else. He could make a small detour and practice with the card in an abandoned warehouse but that was equally stupid. He was almost home already.

Which meant he had a private place to practice without a random hobo or gangbanger rushing to mug him.

With his newfound speed, he found himself home in moments. He looked around at the empty apartment feeling happy for once. His Father spent far too much time out of their apartment and this was the only time he was really thankful about that.

Still, even if their apartment was empty he was going to play it safe so he traveled to his room.

He closed his door and locked it he then drew the blinds so they would be completely closed. He took a look around cautiously as this was something really big and he did not want to take any risks.

He threw his phone in a shoe box and unplugged his computer, he might be a bit paranoid but this was important. He still felt a little off so he took a chair and blocked off the door so his Father could not barge in with a key. Not, that he did so previously but he felt safer this way.

Cole finally felt a little secure so he took his card out of his pocket and thought of more methods to try.

"Install." He spoke out solemnly thinking of the Class Cards from Fate. Again there was an awkward moment where nothing happened and he felt disappointed again.

He had the answer to saving Tammi in his hands but he could not figure out how to use the fucking thing. He let out a sigh and brainstormed more anime and novels trying to pull the magic password out of his scattered memories.

[....The Host could just ask the System.]

Cole looked over at the new screen with his eyes twitching as he once more felt like an idiot. The System clearly knew what this item was as it said he could use it. Which meant it clearly knew the method in which it was used. But he was fumbling around blindly because he could not rub his two fucking brain cells together.

See this is why he was fine with not being the big hero. He would only lead this world into disappointment if they relied on him. He would rather save what was important to him and call it a day.

He knew that those thoughts were not going to work out in the end. This world was pushing along to its doom with each passing second. Even if he managed to save what was important to him today that did not stop the coming events. But that was a problem for future Cole and future Cole was not his problem.

He ignored the stupid thoughts running through his head and looked over at the screen with expectations clear on his face.

[....The System is wondering why The System chose someone like you as the Host. The System would have loved to host the System instead of someone like you.]

Cole started blankly at the comments being thrown at him. He had a look on his face that screamed confusion. He got the concept behind those words but they made no sense in this context. So he decided to ignore them and glare at the System until it told him how to use the fucking card.

[Just tear the card, all the abilities will be transferred to the host when you do that.]

He looked over at the screen with a suspicious look on his face. So far the System was treating him pretty well but that strange comment was throwing him off.

What the System was telling him on this screen was also rather suspicious. Would tearing up this card really give him all of the abilities of Kaito Kid or was the System trying to screw him over?

[...The System is on the Host's side, it is incapable of harming the Host. It was just displaying disdain over the Host's thoughts.]

That's exactly what a malicious program would tell him to convince him that it was on his side.

There was a moment where Cole stared at the screen in front of him contemplating what to do. Eventually, he gritted his teeth and decided to ignore the weird comment. He may not be on a timer but he really wanted to do something about the current situation and he wanted to do it now.

So he clenched the card tighter in his hands and forcefully tore it in two. The Card tearing like a regular card but when it was torn in two the card burst into particles of light that swarmed him. The Light surrounded him in a dazzling display then it entered into his body.

He felt his body change and morph his height increased but not by much as Kaito was a Japanese high school student and they were not exactly known for their height.

His facial features remained as they were along with his hair but his features were just a tad sharper. Finally, the major changes were in his muscle tone he gained a massive amount of definition but not a lot of mass so he looked relatively the same just taller.

Kaito was all about showy displays and agile movements. It was possible to do those movements with a more firm build but Kaito had a gymnastics build.

Ignoring the the physical changes he felt the memories of the skills and abilities Kaito had in his life drilled into his head.

The years of knowledge shoved into his head like a blazing hot rod which led to his head pounding in pain. He could only grit his teeth hoping those memories would calm soon. He figured that this process would usually come in bursts as the user improved the synch rate. Instead, he jumped right to the end but he could not say he hated the abilities he gained.

Kaito Kid was a showman through and through. If he wanted to go make a career out of being a Magian he could pull in crowds in Vegas with very little effort. Beyond that his control over what people perceived was insane. That ability paid dividends in Kaito's other pursuits.

Cole was now a master thief who could run circles around most crooks in this city and he was not even that superhuman. He was just really really good at what he did. He could sneak into a building without a single soul knowing if he wanted even if his instincts demanded a more loud performance.

Cole was now capable of disguising himself as anyone within moments with some prepped tools and some makeup. His disguise is so convincing that he could earn a decent stranger rating even though it was just skill.

It was not even just the look either Kaito could pitch and throw his voice in any manner he wanted and Cole could now do the same. Kaito was also very skilled at copying the mannerisms of people, to the point you were not even sure you were you when faced with him.

The acrobatic and diverse movements that fueled all of Kaito's performances were drilled in his head and he was capable of the same displays. The balance and sheer control over his body was something that people could only dream of.

Then there were the gadgets that Kaito was known to use, he knew he was capable of producing them whole sale and those things were impressive.

A scooter that was capable of going as fast as a race car at the drop of a pin. Skates that offered similar levels of speed. A variety of bombs and flashes that could blind and incapacitate people quickly. A gun that shot metal cards that could move about in insane movements.

He had memories of building all of those things clear as day. Hell, all of these memories were picture perfect as Kaito's Photographic Memory was shared with him like the rest.

He was not exactly a fighter but his reflexes and sheer speed meant he could take care of unskilled combatants in moments. He also was really good at assassination as it fit his thief skill set well.

[The Host has also received Kaito's various Tools and Gadgets along with his costume. They are being stored in the Systems inventory. You can take them out and put them back whenever you wish.]

Cole felt a familiar cocky grin emerge on his face as that would save him a lot of trouble. He knew he was capable of making those things quickly but it would delay him and it was clear how impatient he already was.

It was also nice to know that the System had an Inventory function. It would certainly make his further heists easier. It would also allow him to prepare various tools and gadgets for whatever problem he encountered.

It was an ability that Batman wished he could have. People may think he had an answer to everything in his belt but Bruce would want to pack so much more on him if he could.

[The System does not enjoy being used as a glorified backpack.]

Cole raised an eyebrow as while that description was rude it was certainly accurate. He was planning on storing everything he would need after all. He did not really care if the System did not like him using it that way.

It would be a waste to not use it like that after all. He was a squishy regular human, he may be a master thief but he was still not bulletproof.

He took out the costume out of his inventory and laid it out on his bed. He was worried that it would not fit him with his newfound growth but it still looked usable to his eyes.

The white suit with a billowing cape and top hat was really eye catching. Cole knew there were reasons to be this eye-catching but it would make stealing a little harder. He would say that Kaito Kid had a sense of fucking style.

Honestly, as far as Cape costumes went this one was really well done. Cole put on the suit and just as he expected it fit him like a glove. He took a look at a mirror and had to admit that he pulled it off well even if he did not look like Kaito right now. Still, while this was a good look it was not exactly going to hide his identity as it did not come with a face mask or helmet.

So Cole took out a latex mask and got to work on making a face for this particular gig. Along with several masks from people he dragged out of his memories. With his tools, he was able to make those masks fairly quickly. He put on a familiar face and the image was complete.

The familiar face of Kaito Kuroba stared back at him. The cocky grin on his face was familiar and welcoming for the things to come. He had the skill, the tools, and the will to do this but a prison break was still going to be something he never dreamed of doing before.

He packed up the hat, monocle, and cape in his inventory and covered his suit with a long turtle neck and different pants.

Kaito was a master of quick change but with the Inventory Cole was able to store the top layer of his clothes quickly. Following the same vein he wore another mask on top of the Kaito face as he needed to walk in public to get to his destination.

He put his room back in order but left quickly as he did not want to be caught by his father as he was. So he started walking towards the destination with a single goal on his mind.

The walk was nerve racking as he contemplated plans in his head cross referencing memories in his head to confirm details. He also felt like people were constantly looking at him but his new found instricts told him that he was wrong. That with the face he was currently wearing and his mannerisms no one would take even one good glance at him.

But it was not about what he knew but what he felt. He was nervous and there was no changing that as Cole felt that too much was at stake.

So there was a hint of nervousness about him even though he knew that emotion would be useless here.

He took a calming breath and tried to focus as he could not afford to freak out. He took a small glance to make sure no one was paying attention to him.

Seeing their disinterested looks and their bored faces the nerves he was feeling started to relax. With a newfound relaxed gait he moved towards a blind spot in that spot he took off the top mask and changed his top layer to something different as well. He did not want any traces drawn back to him.

With that done he started walking towards the prison feeling more relaxed now that a step was going in the right direction.

With that calm state, he arrived at his destination with a bland smile on his face. It was not exactly an impressive sight but Kaito was used to seeing richly decorated areas or high-security vaults. This fairly standard prison was not really something worth taking a second glance at.

As he stood in front of the prison he reached his first stumbling block the gate. The prison was completely fenced off from the surroundings and the only way past was through the front gate that had a checkpoint. Visiting hours had long since passed so he had no reason to enter through the front.

He took a glance around and spotted the surveillance cameras within seconds of looking. He spotted several blind spots but there was no clear path to the prison under those cameras. So he took out his card gun and shot out one of the cameras.

The metal card flew in the air bending and twisting to the whims of the wind but eventually, the card flew and placed itself right on the lens of one of the cameras.

Before anyone could take notice of this moment Cole took off running and leaped over the fence with practiced ease. He landed on the other side with a graceful leap.

Cole was completely serious when he said Kaito was mostly human in his feats but there were certain things that defied common sense and his absurd acrobatics was one of those things.

He did not let himself stay still for very long. He took off and managed to reach a barred window. He threw a sleeping gas pellet through the bars which should take care of the people in the room. He then took out another gadget and started cutting the bars with a laser.

He then entered the window with practiced ease. He took a quick glance at the room he found himself in. The room he entered was a cell. There was a bunk that had a single person sitting there dozing from the sleeping gas he threw in the room.

There was another figure that looked like they fell face first in the middle of the room right on the floor. He only took a cursory glance at the two sleeping girls as he was not that concerned about them.

The cell was fairly small but this was a prison not a fucking spa. Cole looked around with a frown on his face as he thought over what to do next. He looked over at the door and wore a thoughtful look on his face.

The large metal door did not have a way to look beyond it and there was no way to slip anything past that metal. There was no handle on the door or an opening to pick a lock but as he got a closer look at the door he knew he could get past it.

This door was run by an electric lock most likely opened and closed from a secure room. Since it was an electric lock it was fairly simple to deal with when you had his tools. Kaito had cracked high tech vaults with ease a cheap prison door was not going to hold him back.

Still, he could not open the door and expect things to go well for him. The guards may be push overs and generally incompetent but they would notice when a door was opened. So he had to do something that would distract the fuck out of them.

So he cut out a small square from the door and sent several smoke bombs into the hallway beyond door.

With a loud woosh, the hallways beyond the door started to fill up with a cloud of thick smoke. Cole took out another tool and opened up the door, the sight of thick smoke greeted him as it rushed back into the room he was in. He had to be quick with this.

He could hear curses and various words from the guards on duty. Cole rushed forward and reached a figure that was swearing up a storm from the smoke.

He covered their mouth with a rag that knocked them out in moments. He then dragged them back to the room he left and threw another smoke bomb for good measure as alarms began blaring.

Cole looked over at his new captive with a grin the man he kidnapped had a face he was familiar with. He had seen this guard more than once so he had a mask prepared for him already.

So he stripped the guard of his clothes and put them on with another latex mask to take his identity. He then fixed the door that had a hole and walked back into the smoke that was still filling up the halls.

By then an alarm was blaring as the guards clearly noticed something was going on. They might not be sure what that was but the thick smoke filling the halls was not something you could miss. The radio he took from the guard coming to life while he was walking.

"Cell block C is sealed until the smoke clears." A cold voice announced from the radio. Cole cursed quietly but that was to be expected.

"Roger, can you get a handle on this situation or do you need more units?" The radio again blared out and Cole had to pause as he contemplated how to respond. This message was clearly aimed at the guard he knocked out so he had to respond or things would get worse.

"Can't see a fucking thing with all this smoke, have some more units outside of the cell block in case things get worse," Cole reported pitching his voice as the voice he could recall from Roger.

Cole did not have a lot of contact with Roger so he could not hit all of his mannerisms but the voice should be good enough. He could excuse the change in mannerism because of the intense situation.

"Will do." The cold voice that Cole could not recognize rang out again. A smug smile bloomed on his face as the guy clearly bought his excuse at least for now.

Cole continued his journey to find someplace to gather information. Cole had a mental map of the prison from scattered memories and descriptions from Tammi but he did not know where she was. So he was going to have to find a computer and work his magic to find information.

This cell block was going to be sealed until the smoke cleared but he did not need to trap himself here now that he was outside of the cell. The ceiling was pretty high but he kicked off a wall and used a light fixture to swing his momentum to kick a ceiling tile in and he entered it. The loud bang from his kick rang out but the chaos from the smoke bombs covered it.

Cole put the tile back into place and he was back in a dark enclosed space. Something that was oddly comforting for Cole.

He took out his monocle as it let him see in the dark.

The space above those ceiling tiles was tight but had enough room for him to maneuver. This was a pretty bad decision for a prison but this was a youth center and honestly, the construction of this place was deliberately terrible. It made breaking out gang bangers easier.

Cole crawled around measuring the distance between his current location and the map in his head. As he was doing that the radio rang out again but it sounded so much louder out of that chaos.

"What the fuck is going on? We don't have anyone important right?" A nervous voice rang out from the radio and Cole rolled his eyes as he continued to crawl. Of course, these fuck wits had a protocol for when someone actually important was arrested.

"That's irrelevant." The familiar cold voice rang out and the steel behind it sent shivers down Cole's spine but he ignored it.

"Come on chief, we deserve to know this shit, god knows how many times I had to dodge rubble as one of Squealler's dog shit cars crashed into our walls." A different annoyed voice rang out.

"Fine, no we did not have any major arrests lately. This also does not fit any of the gangs' themes." The chief spat out tiredly and Cole felt his mouth twitch. That made a terrible amount of sense.

The Merchants probably bum rushed prisons to get their guys out. The ABB was probably just as loud with explosions but in an organized manner. The Empire was a bit more subtle here and would likely grease palms to get people out as they did not want to sully their image.

Which sucked for Cole as the other two methods let the rabble break out while the Empire's method only broke out people that mattered.

What he was currently doing did not really fit the theme of any of the gangs. So Cole could see why there was a certain amount of confusion radiating off of those guards. If he really wanted they would not even notice his presence but that would require a far more thorough planning session.

Stealing blueprints and preparing a plausible identity. Cole paused for a moment as he did not even consider doing that before this moment.

He wanted to get Tammi out of here as fast as he could but the plan that he just came up with was far superior. With Kaito's knowledge and experience, it should have been the first thing that came to him when he started planning. Was his urgency so strong that he chose this route despite a better way being possible? No, that did not really sound right to Cole.

It was not his own instincts that got him in this situation. Kaito did not want to spend so much time on something so beneath him. So he waltzed in here with all the confidence that a world-class thief would have.

Cole had noticed that he felt pride and a sort of cocky attitude since he used the card but he did not put the two together.

He had thought that a sudden boost of power was filling his head with that long forgotten arrogance but that was not it. The dreams of dominating the world and saving the day had long since died for Cole, arrogance and pride were not something he could even relate to now.

No, the feelings that was fueling him right now belonged to Kaito Kid. He was being influenced by the card, of course he was he had a lifetime of skills and experiences shoved into his head.

Knowing that Cole felt a shudder go through his body and his heart felt like it sped up. He knew that he was not the hero in the story but being given the one thing he wanted for the longest time did bring those thoughts back. This new found knowledge was the splash of cold water he needed.

The System had promised him the world and it would deliver. It would take anything and everything from the vast multiverse and it was up to him to use the things it took. If he shot himself with a gun it stole was it the System's fault that he was stupid?

The System had already told him that it could take things that were useless to him why would it stop there? Things that harmed him were on the table as well. He would have to be a lot more cautious going forward.

He was being influenced by the master thief but now that he had noticed it he would try to remain himself with most thoughts. He did not want to suddenly become someone else, that would just be a different form of death.

Cole looked around at this dark corridor and it no longer felt that comforting. He wanted to sigh and start this whole thing over again but he was already too far in this to give up now.

The radio started to crackle back up and Cole cursed in his mind. He had forgotten to deal with the sound. The chaos had covered the previous sounds but if he left this cell block he did not want the guards to know there was a guy in the walls.

"Do we really have to deal with this? All the prisoners are in their cells. Can't we just pretend we saw nothing?" A voice rang out in a nasally way, he guessed the smoke was getting to their lungs or the guy always sounded like a cartoon villain.

Before any responses could take place Cole muted the radio and hooked it up to an ear piece. That way he would not miss anything and the guards would not be able to find him. As soon as he finished connecting the radio a loud voice started shouting right into his ear.

"Are you that much of a coward Brick!? Some smoke pops up and you want to hide with your tail tucked!" The voice that he recognized to be the chief shouted out in fury the cold tone no longer containing the anger.

Well, at least the big guy took his job seriously even if he failed at doing his job properly.

Can't really blame the guy if a giant fire-breathing dragon broke down your walls and demanded some prisoners you would likely give in. Capes made dealing with any subject ten times worse so the chief's uselessness and Brick's cowardicness was just human nature.

God knows Cole would not want to protect these prisoners at the risk of his own life. Being impaled by blades or having a trash golem squish him would not be his vote for a good day. Although a certain part of him rebelled at the thought of givening in to Lung but he would probably do so even if he would feel sick afterwards.

"I get the anger Chief but dealing with Capes is not a part of our job. The guidelines are pretty clear if we think it's a Cape we back off and call the PRT." A different voice shot out in a disinterested tone cutting off the swears coming from the chief.

There was a silence in the air and he was worried that they would do just that so Cole picked up his radio to respond.

"If this is a Cape it's the lamest one possible all that has happened is just smoke. Are we getting any alarms from the doors?" Cole let out with Roger's borrowed voice.

He could probably handle it if the PRT did get involved but he did not need that heat right now.

"Hate to agree with Roger but this smoke is not even as good as that one kid's power, Fuck I can't even remember the nobody's name. The kid that had the whole darkness bit." Another voice popped off but they were driving the conversation to a place he wanted.

"Grue you are thinking of Grue. His Darkness can mute sound and eliminate all light. It also messes with coms. Yeah, his power is streets ahead of this smoke. Honestly, this just looks like a Smoke grenade." The disinterested voice came back but they appeared to have some interest when it came to Capes as they knew something about Grue of all people.

"For fucks sake Tom, Stop trying to make Streets ahead a thing. It's not happening." A voice shot out with familar annoyance.

"Live outside of America Jerry and then tell me Streets Ahead is not a thing!" Tom shouted out back at Jerry and Cole got the impression that this was an argument that happened a lot with these two.

"Enough. We are still in a state of emergency so focus. Roger is the only one with his head in the game. Any alarms from the doors?" The chief's voice came out and Cole paused his shuffle forward for a moment.

He was not even trying to be responsible here he just wanted them to avoid the PRT for now. Apparently that act alone was worth notice from the chief.

"All clear on the alarms. One of the cameras is out but it could be nothing. God knows how many times gangbangers take pot shots at the more obvious ones." Tom's voice let out sheepishly as he realized he got too into the argument with Jerry.

"Did you not think that was an important thing to notice? Did this maybe happen before all the smoke came about genius?" Jerry's voice came out mocking Tom with all he had. Cole tensed up as they were still getting closer to the actual truth but there was not a lot he could do without being obvious.

"Oh bite me Jerry." Tom's spat out but he was clearly feeling embarrassed now that the focus was on his mistake.

The dynamic between those two was too volatile Cole was surprised that they could even function together normally. They were in a state of emergency right now but they still took the time to snipe at each other.

"Enough! Focus Jerry, Tom you need to concentrate on the here and now. Jerry brings up a valid point when did the camera go down?" The chief smacked down the argument forming once again with practiced ease.

His loud authoritative voice rang from the radio but it also rang out below him. Cole paused his journey forward and stared blankly at the ceiling tile below him.

What are the odds that he would happen to find the one person with the most authority? He slid the ceiling tile slightly so he could get an eye on the room below him.

The room below him was a small room with a desk with various papers scattered across it. Beyond that, there was a computer which was exactly what he was looking for. There was a man sitting at the desk looking over various camera feeds. He was tense and he was prepared to react quickly if things started being even more funky. He was staring at the telephone on his desk as if he was going to reach for it any moment now.

Well, we can't have that now. Cole took aim and prepared to knock him out with a pellet from between the small gap he was looking through.

"All checks on the camera are clear, There is no ticket for it going down so I don't know exactly when it stopped working but it should be working from what I am reading. It appears to have something covering it." Tom let out with some tension as well as he saw that it was strange that a camera had gone down.

"So we are not dealing with a Cape that suddenly popped up from one of our prisoners. This is an outside job." The chief mumbled out as he reached over to the phone to report to the PRT.

The guy did not even reach half way before Cole's pellet hit him between his eyebrows and knocked the poor guy out.

Cole popped his head out to make sure there was no one else in the room. He was pretty sure the chief was by himself but he did not have a perfect vantage point over the room. Seeing no one else Cole dropped into the room and pushed the heavy set man out of his chair and started working his magic on the computer.

He started flashing through the files trying to track down where Tammi was located. Although a part of him took in the information he was skimming and noting it for later. There was no important information here but it was a habit that Kaito developed and it seemed harmless enough to Cole so he was going to follow it.

"How are we handling this Chief?" Jerry's nervously asked as he was not prepared for things to turn out like this.

Cole was sure the guy was looking around trying to find out if a Cape was suddenly going to jump him. Cole was going to tell them that he called the PRT and all they had to do was bunker down and wait for a response but he found what he what he was looking for.

The information had him pausing for a moment and he felt like face palming. Tammi was held in the cell block he broke into…in fact she was held in the cell right beside the one he came in from.

What a waste of time. The whole situation had him pausing long enough that it might send alarms blaring in the heads of the guards asking for a status report. Kaito's instincts overrode that dumbfounded shock so he responded before he even thought things through.

"This is looking like an outside job so I called the PRT in case a Cape is involved in all of this. Evaluate Cell Block C and bunker down. I don't think I have to tell you this but no heroes tonight boys." Cole spat out with the same cold authority the Chief was shooting out from before.

When he finished doing that he looked at the radio in his hand numbly as this was another thing Kaito was influencing him in but the result was what he needed. So he was feeling a little conflicted about all of that.

"You don't got to tell me that chief." Tom chucked out as the nerves coming off of him faded as he got instructions he was okay with. Similar sentiments started to blare from the radio and Cole relaxed a little.

He went back to the computer and started messing with the security measures. After a few moments he had access to the doors and he could shut down all the cameras if he wished. He hooked up to the system so he had remote access and started preparing to lock everyone else out of the controls.

With that done Cole relaxed as he was almost done with this night. A bright smile was forming on his face as he could get Tammi out of here. He no longer had to dread the coming days.

Although he now had to figure out how to keep her from being tracked down and brought back. Cole bit his lip but determination flashed in his eyes, it would be a little difficult but he had the skills to turn himself into anyone. He should be able to change Tammi's look enough that no one could find her.

Plans for later now he had to act. He started tying up the Chief in case he was more resistant to the drugs than expected. To a regular person, the dose he used would have them out for hours but everyone was different.

Once he finished that he got back to the ceiling tiles and started shuffling his way back. Since he now knew where he was going he was able to get back pretty quick. When he got back to the place he first entered he turned off all the cameras and locked the Cell Block so no one could enter it until he said so.

Cole then bursted out of the ceiling in a blur of motion taking in the room in case one of the guards decided to stay back. He was prepared to drop them in an instant but that prep was not necessary as no one was in the hall. It made a certain amount of sense who wanted to risk their lives when they had clear orders to back off.

Seeing everything clear Cole walked towards the door he was looking for whistling a jaunty tune. He was feeling too good to hold back right now. As soon as he reached the door it swung open with a quick handle of his cell.

The inhabitants of the cell clearly were not ready for the door to open up. The two girls tensed up and cast a wary look at the door. The sight of Tammi brought a grin to his face despite the condition she was in. She was hugging her knees and taking as little space as she could on her cot and she was spotting some more bruises which brought his mood down slightly. She was watching him like a rabbit that had been cornered and was preparing to do something drastic.

The other girl was older than Tammi, she was far more confident in comparison. She was tense when the door opened but when she saw him she grew a shark-like grin and leaned back like she had a handle on everything.

Cole did not want to notice this but she was black. He would normally not have a problem with that but Tammi was a nazi…so her having an older black cell mate was not a good sign.

Cole wanted to be impartial as this whole scenario was just a result of Tammi's actions. From her blindly following her family's beliefs and her trusting some real scum. He should not feel this bubbling rage at the notion that a teenage nazi was being pushed around because she was a godamn nazi.

He wanted to be impartial but even if he had a good head on his shoulders he could not.

He clenched his fists and took a calming breath that had Tammi flinching and the other girl tense up slightly. Seeing that Cole relaxed to the best of his abilities. He was going to let this go, this might be a wake up call that Tammi needed so he was not going to do anything stupid.

Just knock her out and get Tammi home. They must have got a read on his body language as the tense mood relaxed again.

"Well look who it is. The big bad security guard visiting little ole me. Planning on taking me up on my offer Roggy." The older girl let out with a mocking smile on her face. She also lifted up her breasts with her hands trying to get a rise out of him.

Cole was not prepared for that and the sight had him pausing for a moment. Seeing that the girl shifted back to the shark-like smile and gave him a measured look.

"Or are you here for the bitch. She's a bit young but I hear nazis have the tightest cunts. If she struggles I'll hold her down just for you. Treat it as a gift from your favorite prisoner." The girl spat out as she shifted her attention back to Tammi trying to strike fear into his friend. Since she turned around she missed the snarl that almost came out of him.

He knew prison was not going to be pleasant for Tammi but sexual abuse did not come up on his list. His blood felt like it was running cold but the fury burning inside of him felt like it was going to consume him.

He shot a look at his friend as if trying to find any hints that she had experienced any of this already. If she did he was not sure what he would do but he was sure it was going to be drastic.

The wide eyed panicked look on Tammi's face had his heart skipping a beat but it appeared even she was shocked at the offer. It felt odd feeling relieved when his friend looked like she was about to bite her own tongue off but this sort of reaction was better than others. It was not a perfect sign but he would deal with that later she was leaving this place now.

The girl turned back to say something to him but he flung a pellet down her throat. She choked on it for a moment but the drug soon had her slumping over into her bed. Tammi was shocked by this turn of events so before she could really freak out he acted.

"Right, glad I showed up today. We are getting you out of here." He let out calmly using his own voice.

Again Tammi looked shocked and confused. She could recognize his voice normally but this whole situation was too much for her so even if she felt familiar with his voice she could not put it all together. So Cole pulled off the various face masks he was wearing and showed Tammi his face.

"Cole?" She stuttered out as if she was doubting what she was seeing. Cole gave her a soft smile and nodded and put back on the Kaito Kid mask.

She stumbled back like the world stopped making sense but the tense nervous mood she had relaxed. She no longer looked like she was going to swallow her own tongue at least.

"I know it's a lot to take in but we don't have much time. So I'm going to focus on getting you out now." Cole let out urgently as he started to break down the bars to get outside. Tammi was still confused about everything but she was watching Cole like all of this was a dream and she was fine with following along blindly.

When he finished taking the bars down he picked her up and jumped out of the window. She let out a yelp at the sudden action and she tensed up but she mumbled his name and tried to relax.

She was still shuddering every once and a while but he would deal with that later. He jumped out of the window with her and when he hit the ground he activated his skates.

The world started to flash around them as he pushed them as fast as he could. He was able to stall for now but if the PRT did get dragged in, he would have issues dealing with them.

Armsmaster had a Tinkerteck motorcycle that should give his skates a run for their money. Velocity was a speedster so if he got called in Cole did not really have a good way of avoiding him. Hell, Vista could trap him in an endless alleyway and that was just the people he could think of right now.

Stealing from regular people was easy but fucking around with literal superheroes was not a good idea.

Tammi again let out a yelp from the sudden speed but she closed her eyes and tried to borrow even more in his arms. It made hopping over the fence a little harder but he was using his skates this time so they cleared it.

Cole was sure they made a great sight. A random guard skating at the speeds of a sportscar while holding an inmate wearing bright fucking orange. Thankfully it was late enough that he did not have to deal with too many people seeing them.

He cut through alleyways and took plenty of shortcuts to get a good distance away from the prison. Making sure to keep out of the sight of any cameras. He did not want to give the PRT any clues to track him down.

Once they got far enough Cole shot into an alley to change clothes as Tammi wearing a literal prison inmate outfit was not going to hide her very well.

Cole put her down and started taking out some clothes for her to put on while he took off the guard uniform revealing his cape outfit. He was going to change into civilian clothes but he had to ditch the guard uniform first. As he was starting to take out clothes to put on top of his outfit Tammi finally pipped in.

"Cole…Did you trigger?" Tammi asked as she looked over the suit Cole was wearing and how he was literally taking clothes out of nowhere.

He paused for a moment and tried to think if they had time for this. But before he could make a final choice on that a different voice rang out from the alleyway.

"Look at these two lovebirds coming to my alley. You better empty them pockets fancy pants." An obnoxious voice rang out behind him and Cole turned around slowly trying not to startle who ever was behind him. From the sound of it, they were being mugged and Brockton Bay was not good on gun control.

He turned around and got a good look at the guy threatening them. The guy was clearly down and out with patchy clothing that was worn over even more clothing. Messy, oily, and long stringy hair was falling over his head and he looked like he was running on way too much energy. Cole's hunch about him being armed was accurate as the guy sported a scuffed-up handgun.

Cole got a good look at him but the guy also got a good look at him. The mugger's eyes widened and he swung his gun up from its relaxed postion from before. Cole could already see how things were going to play out so he brought out his own card gun to knock the guy out but he knew the guy would get a shot off first.

Kaito Kid was capable of dodging out bullets but that was a trick based on reading the gun's position and movement. Kaito had outrageous reflexes but it was not too superhuman. Cole could of course dodge out of the way now but Tammi was behind him. If he moved she was likely to get hit so he was going to have to take this shot.

"Fuck Cape!" The guy spat out and his reaction to seeing Cole made more sense. The gun in his hand shot off blindly but the hope that he would miss was a doomed one as he could track the shot.

He could not dodge out of the way but he could move his body so the shot did not hit anything vital. It would be a pain in the ass but this would not be the first time Kaito Kid got shot.

Cole's own card gun shot out a card at the same time knocking the guy out before he could get out another shot. Then his shoulder got hit by the bullet.

For a moment he could not even feel the pain from the shot. Cole knew that was not going to last so he sat down and started taking off his clothes so he could pry the bullet out of his shoulder and bandage his wounds.

"No, no, no, no, no, no." Tammi started muttering that over and over again. Cole turned around to look at her as the pain started hitting so he gritted his teeth while checking her over.

Tammi looked like her whole world was crashing. Tears were falling from her face and she looked like she was about to be sick as she shuddered looking at his blood-soaked suit.

Before he could explain that it was not as bad as it looked. A message popped in front of him.

[The System is issuing a warning. The Ownership Shard holder is about to trigger. Due to The System running off of the Theft Shard, you will pass out briefly.]

Oh fuck. Cole wanted her to trigger for the longest time and he knew he was the catalyst for it to happen but he did not expect it to happen like this.
