Chapter 20
“Why don’t we sleep naked tonight?” Iori’ voice was trembling as she asked.
Iori’s voice trembled as she made the suggestion.
“R-really? Naked? W-why?”
My voice was also shaky. It was an unexpected turn of events, but I wanted to be cautious.
“Because, um, it’s so hot. But it feels a bit weird if only I undress, right?”
“I-Iori, if you’re okay with it… Then, let’s do it!”
I consented, following Iori’s lead. This response was far from the “manly” type that she might prefer. I couldn’t help but feel like a pitiful guy.
“Alright then…!”
Iori stopped cuddling with me and sat up. While sitting, she took off her camisole and neatly folded it, placing it beside her. Of course, she didn’t take off her panties.
(Well, I’ll just leave my lower half as it is.)
I thought that if I removed my pants, it would be crossing a line. So, I sat up and took off only my undershirt.
“Now, it should be a bit more bearable.”
“Y-yeah…”
I lay down again, and as expected, Iori cuddled up to me as if it were natural, her breasts were pressing against my bare chest.
“H-hey, Iori…!”
“Hmm?”
“It’s a bit…awkward when you’re naked like that…”
It was tough for a high school boy who was still a virgin. My inner sexual desires were being stirred.
“But, you see, I can’t sleep if we don’t do this.”
“That’s a problem…”
Caught between my instincts and my rationality, I thought of a solution.
“Hand!”
“Huh?” Iori asked.
“It’s not ‘huh,’ it’s ‘hand’!”
“What do you mean by ‘hand’?”
“Let’s hold hands instead of cuddling!”
“Alright!”
Iori moved away from me and tightly held my left hand. Our fingers intertwined.
“How’s this?”
“It’s probably okay.”
“That’s a relief. So, let’s sleep holding hands tonight.”
“Okay! Goodnight, Masato-kun!”
“Goodnight.” We exchanged our goodnight wishes, and this day came to an end.

The next day…
When I woke up in the morning, the first thing I did was wash my face. I used the water in the pottery jug outside.
“I stored some water in it yesterday, so it’s lukewarm now, not too bad.”
I thought I was talking to myself, but I got a response, “Yeah.”
Iori, who was right next to me, was also washing her face in the same way.
“Whoa! You’re awake!”
“I was just reciting lines, you know? Anyway, good morning, Masato-kun!”
“Morning!”
I stood up and wiped my wet face with the robe I had been using as a makeshift towel.
“It’s cooler today.”
“It’s not exactly cool, but it’s definitely better than yesterday.”
Iori wiped her face in the same manner. The robe, while makeshift, worked well as a towel. Of course, its performance wasn’t on par with store-bought towels.
“Breathing is easier at least.”
Yesterday’s heat was unbearable. Breathing felt restrained, and I was sweating just from standing still.
Today was about 4-5 degrees cooler.
“That’s true. It’s a lot better.”
We continued our journey toward the northern forest, just like yesterday, with the intention of cutting through to reach the sea.
“It seems the lions haven’t shown up.”
Unlike before, the male lions haven’t come to warn us.
“Perhaps they were wiped out by the wolves?”
“It’s possible.”
We made steady progress through the forest, passing the area where we had been attacked by the lion pride.
Now we were entering an unknown territory.
“Hey, what’s that over there?”
I pointed to the sandy beach.
About a hundred meters to the east of where we were.
“Oh, yeah! Something washed ashore!”
We started walking faster as excitement built up.
“It could be something useful!”
As we approached, we realized that the first things we noticed were clothes. Both top and bottom were there, and even shoes.
“So… could that be a person?”
What had washed ashore was a human. There were two of them.
