Suicide Before Defeating the Final Boss

Chapter 45 - The Escape

Suicide Before Defeating the Final Boss – 45

EP.45 The Escape

Escaping was easier than expected. The symbol of the Black Market, its largest building, had collapsed in an instant, causing everything nearby to be destroyed as well. The resulting chaos was far greater than anticipated, and using the dust and debris as cover, Jeong-hyeon quickly made his way out of the Black Market and back to his dorm room.

‘Alright, let’s start sorting things out.’

Though he was tired and wanted to rest, he knew it would be better to organize everything first. So, he brought Miria out of the subspace and spoke to her.

“Help me with the sorting.”

Miria, slowly regaining her senses after being released, stared at him with a silly expression, holding tightly to the luxurious and mysterious items in her hands.

“Of course. Leave it all to me.”

It would be nice if she wiped the drool from her mouth first. He sighed, seeing Miria become more foolish by the day, and began to take out the items he had gathered from the subspace. Just then, someone knocked on the door.

“Jeong-hyeon, I’m here to feed the sprout, are you in?”

The sprout referred to the mysterious seed he had obtained earlier. Since it had the peculiar trait of consuming divine power, he thought it would be a good idea to ask Lucia to feed it with her divine power. She had been coming every day to do just that.

‘Perfect timing.’

Given the sheer number of items he had brought back, he thought it would be wise to ask Lucia for help with the sorting. Smiling, he opened the door. As usual, Lucia greeted him with a bright smile.

“Oh, you’re here!”

He nodded slightly and gestured for her to come in. Humming an unidentifiable tune, she entered the room and upon seeing the cheerful Miria, she walked over to her with a bright smile.

“Oh, Miria, you’re here too…! You seem really happy today, did something good happen?”

At that, Miria quickly hid the items behind her back and began mumbling awkward excuses.

“… Huh? Oh… well, something like that!”

“You’ve seemed so down lately, I was really worried about you. I’m glad to see you’re happy.”

“… I was like that?”

He left the two to their conversation and focused on unloading the valuable-looking items from the subspace, excluding the gold coins. The number of items was more than he had expected.

This was going to take all day to organize and evaluate, and even then, it might not be enough. He couldn’t even begin to estimate the value of these items, but considering how Miria’s eyes had lit up earlier, they were probably worth far more than he could imagine.

‘However, rather than finding valuable items right now…’

He needed to prioritize finding items that could boost his stats or equipment he could use. He instructed Miria and Lucia to set aside anything that could serve this purpose.

***

About three hours later, he found himself smiling at the three items laid out on his bed.

*-*

[Elixir of Growth] (Artifact)

Description: An elixir created by concentrating all the essence of the church. When consumed, it doubles the effectiveness of training for one week.

[Dragon’s Blood] (Unique)

Description: When consumed, it significantly increases health and mana.

[Rapid Growth Elixir] (Artifact)

Description: When used on plants, it accelerates their growth rapidly.

*-*

Two items to aid in his own growth, and one to assist the sprout he was raising.

‘Honestly, it’s a bit disappointing that out of that mountain of items, only two are useful to me.’

But considering how impactful these two items were, he quickly appreciated their value.

‘Dragon’s Blood is a no-brainer… and the Elixir of Growth… Just looking at it makes my mouth water.’

As much as he wanted to use the Elixir of Growth right away and dive into training, he knew it would be most effective if used during the “Trial Chamber” he would enter upon leveling up. So, he decided to hold off on using it until then.

‘I can’t wait to level up.’

The thought of leveling up quickly crossed his mind, and he briefly considered causing another terror attack at the gambling den. However, he knew that being greedy could complicate everything, so he forced himself to sigh and let the thought go.

‘And then there’s the Rapid Growth Elixir… that one’s just for the sprout, so I don’t really care much about it.’

Without much interest, he tossed the grape-like round nutrient to the sprout and turned his attention elsewhere.

‘Now, let’s open that thing.’

He was curious about the purple magic stone safe he had found last. What could possibly be inside that was worth sealing in a safe made from the most expensive of magic stones? With that thought, he carefully sliced open the safe’s door using divine power.

Thud.

When the vault door was sliced open, what lay inside was a single, rusted sword, dull and gray.

‘What is this?’

The sight of just one simple, nondescript sword sitting there alone made him feel perplexed. After all, considering all the luxury and high-end items he had discarded earlier, it seemed strange that this one item had been kept so carefully protected in such a secure location. The auction house’s behavior didn’t make sense, and the oddity of the situation only deepened as he stared at the sword.

Watching from the side, Lucia suddenly gasped in horror.

“J-Jeong-hyeon… that sword… could it be…”

Judging by her reaction, Lucia seemed to recognize what it was. He signaled her to explain quickly, but she just stood there, mouth agape, unable to speak.

‘Guess I’ll have to check it myself.’

Since Lucia wasn’t proving to be of any help in this state, he decided to ignore her and grabbed the rusted sword to inspect it himself.

*-*

[Lost Light Holy Sword]

Description: ???

*-*

As he checked its details, he realized that his unrealistic luck trait was working far better than he had imagined.

***

Where should he even begin to fix this mess? The fact that the Holy Sword was damaged? Or that the Church was unaware of its loss? Or maybe that the sword, supposedly the Church’s sacred relic, had been kept hidden away in an illegal auction house?

There were so many things wrong with this situation that it made his head spin. A bitter laugh escaped him as he sighed and stared down at the rusted sword.

‘Well, it’s not all bad.’

No, it wasn’t just ‘not bad’—this was a massive win.

‘Sure, the Holy Sword might be in a dead state for some unknown reason, but…’

Considering this was a ‘game world,’ there was likely a way to revive it. he added ‘reviving the holy sword’ to his to-do list and began swinging the rusted sword around. Lucia, who was watching nervously, suddenly blurted out.

“W-Wait a minute…! Jeong-hyeon, hide that sword in your subspace right now…! If the Church finds out you have it, they’ll come after you immediately!”

He glanced over at her and replied.

“It’s so rusted, they probably wouldn’t even recognize it.”

But Lucia shook her head frantically.

“No, they’ll recognize it for sure. The unique divine power emanating from that sword will tell them it’s the real Holy Sword!”

“Really?”

“Yes!”

Since the sword was currently not very useful as a weapon, he decided to just carry it around for now and tossed it carelessly into his subspace.

‘But isn’t she a saintess?’

He wondered briefly if a saintess was supposed to report the discovery of a Holy Sword to the Church immediately or return it to them. However, after glancing at Lucia’s face, where she was grinning foolishly, he decided not to dwell on it too much.

‘She’s really hard to figure out.’

He thought that someday, if he had the chance, he might delve into her mind, but for now, he shook his head and changed the subject.

“By the way, how’s the sprout doing? Is it growing well?”

Lucia snapped out of her daze and nodded quickly.

“Oh… yes! Since I’ve been giving it divine power regularly, it’s growing day by day.”

“Really? That’s good to hear.”

“Yes! But I still have no idea what that sprout really is. A plant that grows by absorbing divine power… I’ve never heard of such a thing before.”

He could only nod in agreement, as he was just as clueless. Meanwhile, Miria, who had been watching them from the side, sighed and spoke up.

“You two should stop chatting and help with the sorting. At this rate, we’ll be up all night for days and still won’t be done.”

“Oh… sorry. I’ll help right away.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

He chuckled at their exchange and then looked at the pile of items stacked like trash, letting out a sigh. It was clear that it would take a long time to finish sorting everything.

‘But at least the results are good.’

He didn’t feel too bad about it, thinking that the rewards made the effort worthwhile, and he began organizing the items roughly.

***

After what seemed like forever, they finally managed to sort through all the items. He looked at the neatly arranged items and then called out to Miria, who was exhausted and collapsed on the floor.

“Miria.”

“…Huh?”

“Come here for a moment.”

Miria, looking like someone who had just finished a night shift at 3 AM, dragged herself over to him.

“…What is it?”

As she approached, he pointed at the items in front of him and spoke.

“I’m thinking of investing in you.”

“… Investing?”

At the unexpected comment, Miria looked at him with a puzzled expression, but then her eyes lit up as she asked.

“…How much?”

Seeing her perk up at the mention of money after looking so dead just moments ago, he couldn’t help but let out a small laugh.

He gave a brief reply.

“As much as you want.”

“…As much as I want?”

Miria looked at him in surprise, clearly taken aback. Then she shivered slightly and asked.

“…Why all of a sudden?”

“I need information.”

At that, Miria seemed to immediately grasp what he was after. Her expression turned serious, a stark contrast to her earlier demeanor.

“How soon?”

“As quickly as possible. I have a feeling things are about to speed up.”

She glanced at the neatly arranged wealth before them, contemplating for a moment. Then, with a short sigh, she asked him quietly.

“Does this include my life insurance?”

“I already set that up ages ago, what are you talking about?”

“Oh, right… It was an offer I couldn’t refuse, wasn’t it?”

Though it wasn’t exactly like that, he remained silent, hoping she would agree. After a moment, Miria muttered.

“Alright, I’ll do it.”

She began grumbling.

“This is the first time I’ve been so depressed about getting paid…”

He burst out laughing at her comment, then began detailing the first piece of information he needed her to find.
