Chapter 23: Hugo Seryaklov III
Zara's POV
We arrive home quickly and begin preparing for the evening, focusing on learning how to hide weapons in our clothes and ways to not seem suspicious. Mr. Wayne then shows us the building plan of Seryaklov's mansion and goes over the plan again.
"I was invited to this party, but Damian is going on my behalf, and you two are his plus-ones. Your main objective is to get inside Seryaklov's study and find any documents or items that could be related to this case. If you draw Seryaklov's attention in any way, it could potentially jeopardize the mission. Do you understand?" he finishes, his tone stern.
"Yeah," Kara answers. For the first time, I see her completely serious about something. I glance at Damian, who is meticulously adjusting his suit, his expression unreadable. I've seen that look before—he's already strategizing.
I raise my hand hesitantly. "One question though."
Kara's POV
"What do we do if somehow he notices us?" Zara asks, her voice steady but her brows furrowed in concern.
Bruce fixes his gaze on her. "If that happens, the person noticed should be prepared to distract him long enough to enable the other two to find what we need."
"And in case anything goes wrong, we'll be around to intervene," Clark adds, adjusting his glasses. There's a sense of reassurance in his voice, but it doesn't completely ease the tension building in the room.
Damian steps closer to Bruce, lowering his voice slightly. "Why haven't I been seeing J'onn J'onzz around lately?"
Bruce shrugs, a rare moment of uncertainty on his face. "He needed a break but promised to be available when needed."
Before the conversation can continue, Flash bursts into the room wearing a waiter's uniform. "It's showtime!" he announces with a grin. "Who's ready to crash a party?"
Zara's POV
Kara rolls her eyes but can't hide the slight smile on her face. Damian smirks, shaking his head as he adjusts his cufflinks. "You sure you'll blend in wearing that?" he quips, motioning to Flash's outfit.
"Hey, I'm the best distraction you've got," Flash retorts, spinning dramatically. "Besides, someone's got to keep the party alive while you three are sneaking around."
"Focus," Bruce says sharply, cutting through the banter. "You all know your roles. Stay on task, stay invisible, and stay safe."
We nod, and Kara gives me a reassuring nudge. "Don't worry. We've got this," she whispers. Her confidence is infectious, and for a moment, I feel a little more prepared for what lies ahead.
As we pile into the car, the tension is palpable. This isn't just about sneaking into a party—it's about uncovering truths that could bring down one of the biggest criminal empires in the world. And as much as I trust our "team", I can't help but wonder what kind of chaos awaits us once we step into the Seryaklov's world.
