The Casket of Ancient Winters, unlike Mjolnir which does not affect its surroundings when ownerless, could continuously affect the environment with its chill when placed on Earth.

Moreover, Robert couldn't simply destroy the Casket, for who could guarantee that he could block the vast cold flow released if the Casket were destroyed?
