Survival of a Loner DC

Chapter 11: Chapter 11

After stealing a laptop, and being sure to only use it in locations distant from any of my resting places, I started searching the locations that Sergio had told me, the areas that Mario uses for his jobs, I found several journal reports made by someone named Vicky Vale, but they all were placed on the bottom of the journal, and only in tiny letters, one had to look for it to find it, but they still were there.

'So Mario also has the Gotham Gazette on his side, maybe I can meet with this Vicky Vale to help me ruin his image'

Letting that thought go I bring myself back to reality close the laptop I had used and entered the mirror dungeon.

But just as I was about to do so, something arrived from the darkness and grappled my wrist, pulling me towards the one who had launched it.

Thanks to Gamer's mind and quick thinking I store my gauntlets letting the rope around my wrist become loose and quickly move away reequipping them once I had moved away.

The rope of the bat-shaped grappling hook returns to the gun where it had come from, and there, from the darkness like one of your worst nightmares, one of the greatest fears of anyone in Gotham who has ever done anything bad appears, the bat symbol on his chest, his yellow belt filled with enough items to kill me several times, and his eyes pointed right at me, piercing right through my soul.

I immediately summoned the Mirror dungeon to try and escape, but something happened that made my skin crawl for the first time since I had obtained these powers.

You are under the effects of a dimensional travel distortion device, you are unable to travel dimensions until you are far enough

And in that exact moment, the feeling of being unstable that I had until this moment, broke into several hundreds of pieces, making my mind return to the days when I was nothing more than a street urchin trying to survive.

" Jack-"

At those words, my mind snapped back into reality. He knew who I was, what I had done, what my father did to me, and what made me what I was.

I didn't let him continue, I had already summoned my assault rifle, not aiming at any specific spot and just wanting to give me a window to run away.

Not even flinching at my actions, he raised his cape and somehow blocked all of my bullets, temporarily making him unable to see. This gave me the chance to crash against a window of the building and jump out of it. Small problem: I am on the third floor.

Going purely on instincts the moment I touched the ground I rolled forward to mitigate the damage and reduce the time necessary for me to continue running.

Most likely due to luck, I didn't gain any status effects from the nasty fall, which would have most likely reduced my moving speed, a creeping shadow's eyes pointed at my back and followed me quite closely from the roofs.

Following my trained instincts I barely evaded a Batarang aimed for my leg a notification blaring in the corner of my eye, that quickly disappeared a second later, the dread that came with every step was stopped by Gamer's mind from clouding my thoughts.

Just before another turn something shouted at me to duck, and seeing how until this moment my instincts had saved my skin I did just that, barely evading a dull katana from hitting me in the throat.

My mind still on overdrive recognized the owner of the sword as the newest Robin under Batman, known for being more ruthless than his predecessors, I didn't take the chance to fight against him and continued my run, angry yes, stupid not for now.

My stamina bar continued depleting while the two shadows continued taking ground over me, my body was improving but I was not at the point where I could escape from two highly trained vigilantes.

Hoping for it to work I summon several mana bullets to make a fire escape fall on their heads, my aim for most of them was off, but the necessary bullets hit a few weak spots making the thing fall on their heads, letting me take some ground and have window to search for any possible escape.

I was panting while all of my muscles burning, the adrenaline running through my veins making everything feel faster than it was, my mind though, my mind was calm like a lake, formulating plans and possible escape routes.

" Jack." A voice from the darkest depths of the night called me.

Taking a big breath I turn towards it, my face uncovered, seeing no point in doing so.

Standing like a mountain with a little kid on his side, Batman remained unmoving, but his micro movements warned of how he was more than ready to use any of his gadgets to counter anything I could do, we will see about that.

Sighing I shift from my fighting, almost feral, pose to a relaxed one, swinging my shoulder and cracking my neck.

" Batman, what an honour to meet you in the living flesh, people think of you as a spirit you know? Nothing more than a ghost or a dark story parents tell to a bad child."

He didn't move, his eyes fixated on, his other hand stopping Robin from approaching me, a quick Observe on both of them gave me nothing but question marks, no playing that card then.

" We just want to talk Jack, we know what happened, what you did from that moment, and what you went through."

A cackle escaped from my mouth, the irony could fill this fucked up city.

" You know? You know what happened to me? You know I was covered in blood for a week, forced to drink my mother's blood while the body of my father was hanging in front of me? Of course, you know, you are Batman, the hero."

He didn't speak, my profiling skill catching on the movements of his mouth.

" You know... I loved my mother, after everything Gotham put her through she remained kind, but kind doesn't always help when you have a bullet through your head and guts on the ground."

" Now get this, after what my father did, the people that gave him the tools to do what he did, try to force me to work for them, resulting in him getting a bullet in his head, karma is a bitch am I right?"

" You don't have to escape, you will go through a trial, and I will do anything in my power to help-"

"Help me? HELP ME? I DON'T WANT ANYTHING FROM YOU."

Ignoring the notification I used everything I had to mimic a magic circle behind me, it had no effect, but Batman didn't know that.

Seeing the circle Batmann immediately put his body in front of Robin ready to fight.

Smiling I swing my hands and... a smoke grenade falls to the ground covering the area around me and allowing me to go down the manhole under my feet by storing it and then putting it back in its place.

In my place, a note was left behind, written in red with the words:" Catch if you can fucker." on it.
