Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 116 - Shadow Lord (2)

Chapter 116
Shadow Lord (2)

Leaving Obelia, he started making his way due East.

Keeping as much cover within the forest as possible, and using the White Tiger Stride.

[Dryad Queen’s Blessing].

With the ability to recover at an insane rate in the presence of nature, Redin was able to push his mobility to the limit.

*Boom!*

A speed that was far beyond that of a carriage.

After running for a while, he stopped to catch his breath. Sitting down on the ground with his back against a large tree.

After resting for about five minutes, he was back on his feet.

Steadying his breathing, he glanced out at the horizon.

The black mountain range that only came up on the map was beginning to appear in the distance.

Watcher’s Eye and Shadow Alter Ego.

With the use of these two, he could use shadow movement to quickly arrive at the destination, but the power of shadow could not be restored by the Dryad’s Blessing.

There is no telling what will happen once he gets there.

It was necessary to save his strength for any possible situation.

“Huu…”

Closing his eyes for a moment, he reviewed his plans.

The final objective, Rodwell.

In order to take him down, he needed to understand Rodwell’s skills and develop enough skills to be able to kill him.

In addition, the special powers he has.

He had to prepare for factors that weren’t revealed in the game.

“The immediate problem of skill will be solved with the Shadow Lord….”

As for figuring out Rodwell’s abilities.

Once he became an Imperial Knight, he would encounter him at least once, allowing him to use his Copy skill to uncover them.

After that, he can make a countermeasure, dispatch Rodwell, and the undercover mission will finally be over.

“I better get moving.”

Pushing himself up from the ground and channeling his mana, he sprinted off. The coolness of the breeze blew through him as he ran for a while until he reached the Black Mountains.

A huge mountain range.

He can see the seven mountain peaks.

Waiting until nightfall to find the entrance. As the sun set and the bright moon rose, there was a change in the landscape.

An 8th peak that wasn’t present during the day.

He quickly darted off in the direction of the new, unusually dark peak.

The peak clouded in fog.

As he entered the place that seemed to have no solidity, a thick demonic energy enveloped his body, attempting to weigh him down.

His bloodline’s Demonic Energy Resistance kicked in.

At the same time, the Shadows consumed the demonic energy, digesting it. He arrived inside the mountain peak without incident.

Instantly, the fog dissipated, revealing the secret area within.

A barren expanse of land.

Ruined buildings on the mountain.

It was hard to discern the original form of the Demon Church, which was made of black marble.

An aftermath of war.

The Demon Church which sought to taint the world with evil and resurrect Demon God, fought two great wars, only to be defeated in both.

Immediately after their defeat.

The victorious heroes immediately sought out and erased all traces of the Demon Church. Each time, the Demon Church’s headquarters became a priority target.

The very heart of their organization.

It was here, shortly after the First War, that the Emperor of the Orberg Empire personally led his allies to purge it.

“The First Order.”

At least that’s what it was called in the game.

Players called it by another name.

The Wasteland Church.

It was labeled as a hunting ground, but there were no monsters, no priests, nor even a single demon of any kind.

Just an iconic place.

However, five years later, with the Burning Hell update, the original church has transformed into a place that lives up to its name.

The Demon Breeding Center.

A powerful curse that existed underground was utilized to create demons, which were then used to wage war against the Six Kingdoms.

“Huu..”

Stretching lightly, he walked along the path.

He stepped over the broken path of twelve black marble statues and entered the chapel building.

A vast and spacious chapel.

At the front was a broken statue of the Demon God, and throughout the place were symbols of Demon God Religion and traces of war.

He stood in front of the Demon God’s Statue.

Pushing the statue aside, he swept his hand across the floor. The floor was painted with demonic sigils. Redin clenched his fist, filled it with mana, and smashed it down.

*BAMM!*

One blow wasn’t enough, so he punched it several times.

*BAM!* *BAM!*

The floor caved in beneath him. There was a slight stirring of loose stone dust, revealing a passage down into the underground.

He pulled an illuminating item from his subspace pouch and tossed it within.

The item rolled down the trail of steps, eventually disappearing from view.

“It’s deep.”

Reaching into the subspace again, he retrieved another illuminating item, clasping it in his hand and descending into the underground. The moment he descended the stairs, even the faintest trace of demonic energy disappeared.

In an effort to hide the curse from the heroes who would follow the traces of Demonic Energy and find it, the priests of the Demon Church gathered their strength and created this place.

*Crunch!*

Stepping on broken stones, he carefully made his way to the bottom.

“…..”

At the end of the stairway was a small lake.

Within the center of the lake, which was made up of a white liquid that appeared to be filled with holy water, was a black altar, and on it stood a black chalice.

A Chalice containing a Curse.

As he approached the lakeshore to take it, a black spiral portal appeared. A dungeon created by a Demon Church.

Perhaps because it was created by a powerful curse, the scale of the portal was unusually large.

“Queen level….”

A dungeon whose difficulty is rated among the most difficult.

In order to cross to where the curse was, he had to get rid of this particular dungeon.

Smiling lightly, he walked towards the dungeon.

He had already cleared a Queen-level dungeon once. The Labyrinth City of Zarkal. Compared to then, his skill had grown by leaps and bounds.

Even the Phoenix’s powers have been enhanced.

Unless a variant appears, clearing the dungeon itself shouldn’t be too difficult.

*Whooosh!*

As soon as he touched the dungeon, he felt like he was being sucked into something, and his surroundings changed.

He readied himself for battle, drawing on his mana.

Scanning his surroundings, alert for possible conflict at any moment.

“A war zone?”

The corpses of what appeared to be defeated soldiers lay on the ground, and the bodies of monsters were strewn about.

The strong stench of blood.

The smell of blood spread even more strongly with a small tremor that rippled through the earth.

*Rumble!* *Rumble!*

Sounds came from all around.

A multitude of creatures were closing in fast.

“Holding the wave back…”

There were various types of dungeons.

Monster Breeding Grounds, Secret Warehouses, etc.

The Priests of the Demon Church created dungeons to suit the location and its intended purpose.

What was built here.

A Dungeon meant to protect a powerful curse.

A special one designed to prevent someone from stealing the Chalice, and to kill anyone who attempted to take it.

The requirements for clearing it were fairly simple.

All he had to do was deal with the waves of monsters and kill a total of three boss monsters that appeared in the middle.

“Huu…”

With an exhale, he drew his sword.

Seeing the various incoming monsters, he summoned his [Shadow Alter Ego].

[Druid’s Shapeshifting].

After applying it to the two shadow alter egos, he used the White Tiger Stride. The shadows dashed away and clenched their fists.

[Black Bear’s Paw].

Concentrating the power in their fists, the two shadows stretched out their fists at the swarming monsters.

*Boom!*

A shockwave exploded from both of them.

The charging monsters were swept away.

“Keeeeek!”

“Kkeek!”

The Shadows didn’t stop there.

As directed, it dived into the group of monsters and used the Black Bear’s Fist in quick succession.

*BOOOOM!*

*BBAAAAAMM!!*

Each shockwave drained him of mana, but with the [Archmage’s Desire], it hardly mattered.

*Rumble!* *Rumble!*

Even though it was still only the first wave, a huge amount of monsters continued to pour out.

Utilizing the shadows, he continued to whittle them down.

As the number of monsters slowly shrank, he beheaded the last monster that came running.

*Swoosh!*

Instantly, the Boss Monster appeared. A massive, black-skinned orc. It approached carrying a giant sword.

*Thud!*

*Thump!*

The weapon in its hand must have been five meters long.

The orc swung it with tremendous speed.

*Whoosh!*

Crouching and leaping forward, he parried the second incoming attack with his sword and stomped his foot on the ground.

Launching himself into the air, he stabilized himself using the [Fairy Wings].

With that, he formed an Aura Blade filled with purifying energy and sliced the orc’s head in half.

*Oooohh!!*

Before he could even get the message that the [Mask of the Dead] had absorbed the soul, the Second Wave surged in.

“This is good.”

The duration of Archmage’s Desire is 1 Hour.

It was best to quickly clear the waves and reach the third boss monster before the time ran out.

Flicking the sword to shake off the gunk, he set his shadow alter egos in action again.

*BOOM!*

*BAAAM!*

“Keeeeek!”

“Kkeek!”

These creatures were a bit stronger than the previous ones, and it took two blows from his shadow alter ego for them to be slain.

Making quick work of them, he braced himself for the next boss.

“I need to make this quick.”

Capital of the Oberg Empire.

Obelia.

From his perch high above the castle, looking out over all of Obelia, Rodwell turned his head to regard the man in his room.

“Han, did you manage to find out about everything I asked you to?”

“Yep.”

Han grinned, his lips curling into a mischievous smile.

“I did.”

Rodwell sat back in his chair, watching Han’s smug expression. He crossed his legs and glanced at Han.

“Tell me about it.”

“Redin, I think he’s really dead. I sneaked over to Burning Hell and found they’re secretly holding a funeral.”

Redin.

The guy who came out of nowhere.

His perfectly laid plans kept getting derailed because of him alone.

Marek, who was supposed to raise capital.

Count Dante, whom he was trying to recruit as a Darkness Seven.

And most recently, Pinocchio’s death.

As if he knew the entirety of the plan, he found himself frustrated by Redin, who was constantly cutting into everything.

‘That guy really died? At the hands of Pinocchio?’

Rodwell rapped his index finger on the desk to gather his thoughts.

“Are you sure?”

“Even though I might look like this, I’m from Burning Hell. I took a peek at the funeral, and I saw some familiar faces.”

“The guys you said you used to work with?”

“Yes. I followed them for a few days, and while I didn’t find any remains, I did manage to secure the sword that Redin was known to carry.”

“How do you know that?”

“How do I know, I dug up the grave, just in case, and this sword happened to be there.”

Han chuckled and tossed the sword around his belt.

“This is the sword Redin wielded?”

“It’s not a normal sword.”

Rodwell pulled the sword from its scabbard.

*Clink!*

But the sword was not unsheathed. He tilted his head and tried again, but Redin’s sword didn’t budge.

Sometimes there were such things.

Things commonly referred to as Famous Swords.

He tapped into his energy.

Black electricity sparked and burrowed into the scabbard. He attempted to dominate the blade, but it didn’t work against this sword.

Rodwell dropped the sword.

‘There’s no way he’s really dead…’

There was a very high probability that he had infiltrated Obelia.

One of the Imperial Knights.

No doubt he’d be trying to take that position.

“This should be fun.”

“What.”

“I think we might be able to catch that guy called Redin.”

“I told you he’s dead.”

The corners of Rodwell’s mouth lifted for the first time.

“We’ll see about that.”
