Survive as a Prison Guard in the Game

Chapter 134 - Sinister (4)

Chapter 134
Sinister (4)

“Princess, let me help you get ready.”

Rebecca nodded at the maids’ words and rose to her feet. She followed the maids’ lead and stood before the mirror.

She could see them tying her hair and smoothing her clothes. She watched them bustle about, focusing on the mirror.

Red hair like her mother’s.

The same red color as her own leather armor.

Armor made by the craftsmen of the Adrian Kingdom, stronger than steel and as soft as cloth.

She brought her hand up and swept it across her left breast.

Where her heart was, the symbol of the Adrian Kingdom was drawn.

‘It signifies to carry the kingdom in one’s heart.’

It was something she would never have worn in the past, but in the pursuit of avenging her mother, she had decided to ignore such trivialities.

“Princess.”

She took up the sword the maid had delivered.

The sword her master had given her.

She strapped the pure white scabbard to her waist and steeled herself, remembering her master’s words.

‘Let it all loose.’

Heart, mind, and body.

Her master’s daily reminder to let go of the things that keep her from seeing the sword clearly, so she can be able to truly behold it.

*Phew*

Her breathing evened out, easing her thoughts.

She couldn’t get rid of the vengeance in her heart, but she could get rid of the weight of her mind.

“Princess, the departure ceremony is about to begin.”

“Let’s go downstairs.”

Rebecca made her way out of the room. As she walked down the hallway and toward the stairs below, she could see a throng of people.

Under the lead of the Captain of the Royal Knights.

The knights were moving at a brisk pace, assisted by their squires and attendants, finalizing preparations for the departure ceremony.

Walking on, she entered a room with a huge balcony. This was where the heirs were to assemble separately for the departure ceremony.

Rebecca strode over to the window.

A large crowd had gathered beneath the balcony.

From the noble families from the fringes of the kingdom to the people in the capital. Their swords drawn in support of their favored heir.

Flags fluttering in the wind.

Banners representing the nobles who supported the Adrian Kingdom fluttered, intermingled with the banners of the Adrian Kingdom.

They were all gathered here because of the monster that had appeared in the western part of the Adrian Kingdom.

A creature the likes of which they had never seen before.

After sending the video footage to the Holy Empire, they were told that the creature was a Sinister, the most powerful being the Demon God Church has in their ranks.

The response received was “Sinister.”

A demonic creature with the flesh of the Demon God, it possesses remarkable strength. To defeat it would require the most powerful of the Holy Empire’s knights.

‘Three days.’

If they held out for three days, the Holy Empire agreed to dispatch their knights.

“Why can’t we just capture it on our own? It’s a powerful demon, I’m sure we can get some help from a few priests.”

“So you’re just going to attack it and pretend you took it down?”

“With my skills, I’ll be able to handle it on my own.”

“You lost in the duel, and you still talk big?”

“Shut up, brother.”

The Second Prince and the First Princess entered the room with the balcony, followed shortly by the Third Prince.

The preparations for the departure ceremony were completed.

The Captain of the Royal Knights roused the morale of the soldiers and knights using amplification magic.

“As citizens of the Kingdom of Adrian, are you prepared to give your lives to protect your families, and to defend your country?”

“Yes!”

With a loud shout, the chamberlain waiting in the back gave the signal. As if on cue, the princes and princesses stepped out onto the balcony.

The knights and soldiers, seeing the heirs, raised their cheers even higher.

“Waaaaaa!”

“Raaaaahhh!”

The second prince, acting as the representative of the heirs, delivered a light speech. The first princess, who had been listening quietly, looked at Rebecca and asked.

“Are you going to set out on your own?”

Her face was smiling, but her tone was cold. Rebecca glanced away and looked down at the balcony below.

Knights and soldiers divided into exactly three groups.

The troops had been gathered according to the heirs they each supported.

The second prince had the most, followed closely by the first princess and the third prince.

The forces in support of Rebecca were almost non-existent, appearing only at the very end of the procession of the other heirs.

“Better than my sister.”

“Oh, see how cheap you are? Is that what your poor mother taught you?”

Rebecca responded to her opponent’s sharp tone with a sardonic remark.

“I thought I smelled something rotten. Sis, you need to start brushing your mouth. You can’t even get married and live alone because your mouth smells like garbage…….”

“Hey!..”

The first princess was about to shriek, but she forced a smile and wrinkled her nose.

‘Hu…’

Rebecca took a deep breath to calm her momentarily surging emotions. Her heart was heavy enough without having to be called out by the First Princess.

Her Master had told her to let it all out.

Seeing the disparity in the number of forces supporting her, her shoulders slumped. Wondering what she could do with so few people.

“Then we should all go to…….”

As the second prince raised his fist to conclude his speech, the doors of the palace swung open.

Through the wide-open doors, armored troops appeared.

“We apologize for being late!”

A young man shouted as he led the procession inside.

The flags of the various houses fluttered.

In the forefront was the emblem of the kingdom, and behind it the emblem of one of the two dukes who supported it, as well as the flags of several counts and viscounts.

Their numbers were beyond imagination.

A force twice the size of the largest of the second princes stood on the left.

“We have come to strengthen the youngest princess, will you receive us?”

The stranger dropped to one knee and raised his head.

Rebecca looked at him.

The man smiled and tapped his shoulder, a secret signal known only to Cerberus.

-Shoulders raised, dignified.

There was only one person who could have come to her in such a disguise.

Redin.

Rebecca looked at him with a complicated expression, then straightened her shoulders and smiled.

“I accept.”

“We will serve you, Princess.”

The Oberg Empire.

A place where the Emperor is a puppet, and the de facto Chancellor Rodwell reigns.

It was a busy morning in the Imperial Palace.

The four dukes entered the palace looking haggard, while servants and maids prepared and served breakfast to the dukes and the chancellor.

“The Chancellor has arrived.”

The dukes rose from their seats to greet Rodwell. Rodwell went to the highest table and sat down.

A look of irritation was in his eyes.

The dukes all looked at Rodwell, watching him closely. There was a moment of silence. Rodwell’s icy gaze turned to Jeff, the leader of the Untouchables.

“Duke Jeff.”

“Yes, my lord.”

“Isn’t the East, where the Adrian Kingdom lies, under your jurisdiction?”

“That is correct.”

“Then why are you so slow to report on this?”

Jeff winced at the anger in Rodwell’s tone. He’d never seen the man this angry before.

Jeff bowed his head and answered.

“I’m sorry, sir.”

“That’s not what I wanted to hear, I’m asking why you’re so late with this report.”

Jeff hesitated, before speaking up.

“Something went wrong with my contact in the middle.”

“A problem?”

“It looks like there’s a traitor inside the organization, one who killed my agent and deliberately withheld information…….”

*BAM!*

Rodwell slammed the table and it shattered. The food on the table toppled over, the plates shattered, leaving a mess.

Jeff scrambled to his feet.

On the floor, he pounded his head against the floor, apologizing over and over again.

“I don’t want to hear it, so get lost.”

“I’m sorry…….”

“Fuck off!”

A shaken Jeff bowed his head and hastily stormed out of the room.

The three remaining dukes.

Rodwell turned and looked at Fabian, the head of the Blood and the one responsible for the Western region.

“Duke Fabian.”

“Yes.”

“The leader of the Imperial Knights was the one you brought with you, wasn’t he?”

“Yes.”

“Did you ever hear from him?”

“The day you summoned him was the last time I saw him, and I have not seen his face or heard from him since.”

After a moment of pondering, Rodwell dismissed the three dukes.

“Go home. I’ll call you back later.”

“Yes, sir.”

The Dukes left the dining room, and servants and maids came in to clean up the broken table and all the spilled food.

One of them wiped the blood from Rodwell’s hand.

*Smack*

Swatting the maid’s hand away, Rodwell headed for the Chancellor’s office.

“Don’t let anyone in.”

In the silence of his office, Rodwell composed himself and pondered.

A Sinister appearing in the Kingdom of Adrian.

It was obviously an order to the Imperial Knights. Though he doesn’t know who went to which Sinister.

The Imperial Knight succeeded in awakening the Sinister.

Desperately, he tried to make contact, but he received no response from the leader of the knights.

‘He was the best of the lot.’

The reason for the lack of communication was likely due to reawakening of the Sinister and subsequently perishing in the process, so he didn’t pay much attention to it.

Though he didn’t expect it to happen so quickly.

He didn’t consider anything as absolutely impossible. The way things unfold in the world is uncertain, and luck can sometimes play a favorable role.

What pissed him off now was that he was only now receiving a report on the Sinister.

“Who is it?”

The person who’d managed to cut off all the Untouchables’ contacts in the kingdom of Adrian, and who’d also taken care of the secret agent he’d planted inside the royal family.

The one who deliberately blocked information about the Adrian Kingdom.

He was furious that this mysterious person was interfering with his work. But he couldn’t stay angry for long.

Sooner or later, this news would reach their ears

Her had to finish the work before then.

*Knock* *Knock*

A crisp knock came from the window, not from the door. Turning, Rodwell saw the man at the window and stood up.

Opening the locked window, he let the man in.

A member of the Darkness Seven.

Han.

The man who had stalked Redin and brought him the sword, and a former prison guard on Daylon’s team who now led the Cerberus organization.

“What’s the matter, you’ve got a lot of rage on your face.”

“I have a job for you.”

“I hope it’s something fun. I’m tired of the boring stuff.”

“It will be fun.”

Rodwell thought of the Adrian Kingdom.

So much had happened to derail his plans, starting with the Sinister, but he only needed to eliminate one person to unravel the threads.

Someone who wasn’t in the original plan.

Rebecca, the youngest princess of the Adrian realm, and a prison guard at Burning Hell.

If only she could be eliminated.

He shrugged off everything that had happened so far as a minor setback and proceeded with his original plan.

“So, what’s this fun stuff.”

“I need you to travel to the Kingdom of Adrian right now and take the life of their youngest princess.”

“Quietly or spectacularly?”

“Doesn’t matter.”

A campaign to wage battle against the Sinister, and a departure ceremony. It didn’t matter how she died.

“Just kill them.”

“Okay.”
