Chapter 152 - Holy Empire (6)
Chapter 152
Holy Empire (6)
He returns to the office with Manuel.
“What’s the matter?”
“We have a problem.”
At the word “problem,” Manuel gave him a curious look. Before he spoke, he scanned their surroundings.
Raising his senses to make sure there were no nearby eavesdroppers, and if that wasn’t enough, Redin utilized the [Watcher’s Eye].
When he was satisfied that no one was around.
He used dragon magic to stop the sound from spreading. By this point, Manuel seemed to realize something was amiss.
“What the hell is going on?”
“Archbishop Dyke is not the real traitor.”
Manuel’s face scrunched up at the statement.
“That’s…. what?”
“Someone set a trap. The bracelet worn by Archbishop Dyke doesn’t contain any divine power.”
“Isn’t that because he used up all the divine power?”
When he checked the Archbishop’s bracelet.
The description said it was just an ordinary bracelet one could buy in a store.
“The real culprit deliberately showed you the same bracelet to make you suspect Archbishop Dyke.”
“So the Archbishop Dyke I saw…….”
“It’s probably a disguise.”
Manuel ran a hand through his hair.
With his characteristic composure, he calmly pondered for a moment, and then, as if having sorted out his thoughts in his mind, he spoke again.
“Is there any indication that Archbishop Dyke is not the real culprit?”
“The individual who infiltrated the Holy Empire, sent by the Demon Church, has a burn mark on his right wrist. That’s a top-secret information I got while investigating one of the Demon Church’s operatives.”
“So that’s why you checked the Archbishop’s wrist.”
“Yes. I was thinking it was a little odd that things fit so neatly together, especially since Archbishop Dyke vehemently denied it was him.”
“This is a mess. I don’t even know where to start with this…….”
As long as they don’t know who the traitor is.
It was hard to ask someone for help openly.
For now, it was just him and Manuel.
It was best to proceed with the two of them.
“There aren’t many people who could make Archbishop Dyke the culprit.”
“What about the other archbishops…?”
He had checked all seven archbishops so far, but none of them had any connection to the Demon Church.
“What about the Captains of the three major Special Knight Orders in the Holy Empire?”
“They should be… able to use the magic that the archbishops use, at least. They’re probably more mobile than the archbishops, and they can easily stick to people.”
“Please take care of the Knights Captain’s side.”
“I understand.”
Manuel nodded in understanding, then pursed his lips.
“But what do you think the traitor’s objective is?”
The traitor’s goal.
The collapse of the Holy Empire.
The original plan was for the Holy Empire to be invaded by various criminals, starting with the Necromancer.
That scheme has long since been derailed.
“They’re likely devising alternative plans and moving forward with them to execute their agenda.
Who knows what they’re up to.
“Elsia…….”
A candidate for sainthood who was the closest to being a Saint.
She was trapped in the underground prison with Manuel.
If the traitor realized that Elsia was slated to become a Saint, they would have imprisoned and possibly attempted to kill her.
The significance of the Saint in the Holy Empire is immense.
In the original story, a Saint never came to be because the traitor failed Elsia in the final test and disposed of her.
“They’re going after Elsia.”
“You mean the saint candidate who was with me?”
“Yes. Where is Candidate Elsia now?”
“The two previous Saint Candidates failed the final test, so Candidate Elsia is undergoing an additional test, and if she passes, a new Saint will be born.”
He wondered when a traitor would strike.
Perhaps after the new saint has been chosen.
When everyone is celebrating her and hoping for a new era of the Holy Empire.
Even the delegations from the various Kingdoms were present for the ceremony.
Killing her in front of everyone would be the biggest shock to them all.
It was clear that the traitor would make their move the moment Elsia became a Saint.
“We must find the traitor by tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow… It’s the ceremony to select the Saintess, isn’t it? Do you think Elsia will become the Saintess?”
“Yes.”
It was only through strong divine power that he was able to meet his parents, and Elsia’s divine power was strong enough to make it possible.
“Hmm…… Then I’ll look into the Knight Captains, what do you plan to do, Redin?”
“I’ll try to come up with a plan to prepare for tomorrow’s events.”
“I see.”

*Flash*
A burst of blue light poured from one of the teleporters built in the Holy Empire.
As the light faded, it revealed the black-uniformed prison guards of Burning Hell.
At the forefront walked Warden Rukel, followed by Cerberus’ Captain, Daylon, leading the members of the Cerberus organization.
Armored knights approached them.
“I’m Rok of the Holy Knights, and I’ll be your guide for now.”
The knights spread out to encircle the Burning Hell contingent, then moved together.
They arrived at a building at the back of the Temple. It was a lodging made of blue walls. Nearby were knights from other kingdoms who had arrived earlier.
Rok pointed to the accommodations on the far right.
“That’s where you’ll be resting.”
Then Daylon asked Rok.
“What happened to the selection ceremony for the Saint?”
“Thankfully, the Goddess of Creation, Veronica, has sent us a new saint. The final rites will take place tonight. I will get back to you with the details of the schedule.”
“Understood.”
The knights who came with Rok bowed their heads.
After bidding them farewell and leaving to tend to the other guests, Daylon ordered the Cerberus personnel to rest in their quarters.
Rukel trailed behind him.
Upon arriving at the large chamber at the highest point of the compound, they were greeted by Redin, who was waiting for them.
“It’s been a long time, Warden, and Captain Daylon.”
“Took you long enough.”
Rukel held out his hand.
He shook Redin’s hand, then walked over to the couch in the room and sat down with him. Daylon tapped Redin on the shoulder and asked.
“How are you?”
“It’s been a little rough.”
“Tell me about what you’ve been up to.”
Redin quickly recounted everything that had happened so far. Rukel, who had listened in silence, spoke up.
“Are you saying that there are 12 apostles of the Demon Church, and that one of them is currently hiding within the Holy Empire?”
“That’s right.”
“Did you find the culprit?”
“I haven’t found them yet. I’m assuming they’ll be active in the upcoming celebration for the Saint.”
“If more people were to know, they’d be harder to find. Are you sure you can handle this alone?”
“Yes. I’ll report back as soon as I find the person involved.”
Rukel nodded his head.
“Incidentally. Do you have any idea of the skill level of those called the 12 Apostles?”
“I’m not sure about their exact abilities, but I presume they possess skills at least at the Master level or higher.”
“Hmm….”
Rukel took a moment to organize his thoughts.
The information that there was more than just one monster that appeared in the Adrian Kingdom, and that there were beings called Apostles who were superior to the chief priests of the Demon God Church.
Also,
He remembered Redin’s request that Rebecca had sent word to investigate the dungeons.
Before leaving for the Holy Empire.
He received a report that demonic energy had been measured in the dungeons below the fifth floor. Clearly there was something wrong going on.
Rukel looked at Redin and asked.
“How did you know about the underground dungeons?”
“Has there been any problems in the dungeons?”
“A large amount of demonic energy was measured on the fifth floor of the dungeon, and it has been temporarily closed.”
“I suspect that the reason for the demonic energy flowing out is because of the Demon Gate.”
“Demon Gate?”
Redin nodded.
“Yes. I investigated one of the abandoned branches of the Demon God Church, and obtained information regarding the Demon Gate.”
“But why didn’t you tell me about that before?”
“I was afraid the information might get leaked, so I wanted to tell you in person.”
“Hmm. Does that mean they’ve opened a gate to the demon realm beneath Burning Hell?”
“We’ll have to look into it to be sure, but…… it’s a very coveted place for the Demon Church, with powerful criminals imprisoned there.”
Rukel’s line of sight turned to Daylon.
“I want you to organize a group to scout it out as soon as we get back.”
“Understood.”
“And Redin.”
“Yes.”
“You can tell me what you want.”
Redin remembered what he’d asked Daylon to do before infiltrating the Oberg Empire.
He had asked for one wish if he completed his mission successfully.
He opened his mouth to speak, hoping Rukel would remember and honor it.
“I want to have my own organization.”
“By “your own organization,” I assume you realize that…… currently there aren’t enough people on Cerberus to fill it?”
“Yes.”
“In the coming years, all talented individuals will be assigned to Cerberus. Establishing a new organization may not be difficult, but I wonder how you plan to recruit individuals for the new organization.”
“I plan to recruit individuals from those imprisoned in the underground dungeons.”
Rukel looked intrigued.
“Tell me more.”
“To take down the 12 Apostles, it will take someone of their caliber, and in that regard, those locked up in the deepest dungeons are exceptionally skilled.”
“Which also means they’re dangerous.”
“That’s the extent of my determination. So, I want to create a dedicated organization using them to hunt down the 12 Apostles.”
“Hmm… It’s not a bad proposal, but it doesn’t seem like the right time to decide on it here. Let’s discuss it again once we return to Burning Hell.”
“Alright.”

The Main Temple of the Holy Empire.
In a room within the Temple.
In a dark room, someone activated a communication orb. Black light emanated from the orb.
Along with it.
A bracelet beside it radiated Divine Power, absorbing the dark light from the orb.
*Oooooh!*
As the communication orb activated, a voice could be heard.
-Yes, Apostle.
“How are the preparations coming along?”
Whether through magic modulation or not, the voice of the one called the Apostle sounded deep, as if speaking from a cave.
-I’ve made a total of five gates, according to the original plan.
“How long will it take to power up?”
-We estimate about a month.
“As of today, the surge of negative emotions across the continent will cause the efficiency of the demonic energy to reach its peak.”
-Yes.
“Move all schedules up by a week and contact the other Apostles. This means that the gate to the underworld will soon open, so prepare yourselves.”
-Understood.
The apostle immediately disconnected the communication orb.
He closed his eyes for a moment and remained in silence.
How much time had gone by.
When he opened his eyes again, bright light shone through the window. The apostle unconsciously brushed the burn on his wrist.
*Knock* *Knock*
A rapping at the door.
“Your Holiness, the preparations for the ceremony are ready.”
Grabbing a pair of gloves from his desk, he slipped them on his hands and covered the burn marks. Clearing his throat, he rose from his seat and opened the door.
“Let’s go.”
For the final ritual.
