Chapter 28: Chapter 28: Takeoff
Zara stepped out of her car, her outfit catching everyone's eye even in the industrial setting of Xavier's private hangar. She was dressed in her usual edgy, effortlessly stylish look: an oversized black bomber jacket with loose sleeves, layered over a long white shirt, and paired with sleek black pants that gave the whole outfit a minimalist, street-style vibe. Her chunky black-and-white sneakers added to the urban edge, while large headphones hung casually around her neck, and a crossbody bag completed the look. She could tell she looked ready for the day, even if she didn't feel fully awake yet.
As she approached the private jet, a flight attendant came to take her luggage, and she strolled on board, taking in the luxurious, polished surroundings of Xavier's jet. There he was, seated at the back in one of the plush leather seats, his focus on his laptop until she approached. He glanced up, taking in her outfit with a quick look of surprise that, as always, he quickly masked.
"Good morning," Zara greeted him with a relaxed smile as she slid into the seat right next to him, her energy casual but unmistakably confident.
"Morning," he replied with a slight nod, his tone as cool as ever.
With a quick, practiced movement, Zara slipped her headphones over her ears, connected her phone, and turned up her music. The volume was loud enough that even Xavier, seated beside her, could hear the muffled beats thumping from her headphones. She leaned her head back, fully prepared to catch a bit more sleep.
Xavier glanced her way, trying to understand how anyone could sleep with music blasting that loudly. He shook his head slightly in disbelief but stayed silent, his gaze shifting back to his laptop, where he resumed reviewing the business files for their trip.
After a few minutes, Zara's breathing settled into a slower, steady rhythm, her head leaning back against the headrest. She was already lost to the world around her, deep in sleep with her music as her background lullaby.
Xavier allowed himself one more quick glance her way, an amused smirk creeping onto his face. This girl, he thought to himself, was something else entirely. She brought a new energy into his otherwise meticulously structured world—one that was as intriguing as it was confusing. With a small shake of his head, he let the thought fade and turned back to his work, the private jet now climbing high into the sky, marking the start of a journey that neither of them could have anticipated.
