Chapter 24: Alliance with Blumund.
"So you were the ones who were in that carriage with me? I see, thank you for that. I' probably have been eaten by some mindless monsters if not for you. So you have my thanks. Now please, take a seat, Lucia and my subordinates spent hours working on this food, I'd hate to think you were insulting my nation further by not trying what my people spent hours preparing for your arrival."
The 4 members of the free guild all shared a glance with each other before they took a seat at the table, not wanting to risk offending Henrik. "King Henrik, please forgive us for coming uninvited. Truth be told, Blumund isn't that powerful a nation, so we have to take precautions sometimes with fragile situations," Fuze tried to explain.
"You mean the Demon Lord Clayman offering a reward for my head. Yes, I suppose that would make the situation fragile wouldn't it. So how do you respond? You try to sneak in an party of adventurers. Into the heart of my nation, where I and those I care for reside. If I was some conspiracy theorist, I'd think you came here to try and kill me."
"Not at all your majesty. We were sent to speak about an alliance. It's just, it's just that if Demon Lord Clayman heard of this, he may think we plan to ally with you to attack him. We can't risk provoking a Demon Lord."
"So instead, you risk provoking me? The one who tamed the Storm Dragon Veldora. The one who brought back the Star King. Tell me, if I mobilised these two, who would you fear more?"
Fuze looked at the three adventurers with unease and regret in his eyes. Regret because he thinks he may have led them to their death.
"You. We stand even less of a chance against Lord Veldanava and Veldora. Please lord Henrik," Fuze's tone changed to one of pleading, "If I have to die for this, fine, but don't kill them. They're just adventurers I hired to accompany me, they've nothing to do with this."
"Death? Oh Guildmaster Fuze, I have much worse things in mind. Your punishment, is this. I sentence all four of you to 5 less minutes in the hot springs," Henrik said with confidence before sitting down and stuffing his face with seasoned boar meat.
"I under... Wait. What do you mean?" Fuze asked curiously.
"You know Lucia, you've really outdone yourself this time," Henrik complimented her and she thanked him before Gido stood up and shouted.
"Hey. Didn't you hear the guildmaster or you just deaf? What kind of torturous device is a hot spring? Are you going to boil us before feeding us to the Storm Dragon?"
"Relax kid, a hot spring is like if a bath became heaven. Ask Veldanava, he can confirm that. When we're done here, we're all gonna go to the hot spring and relax in those heavenly waters. But for coming here unannounced, and for trying to attack Souei, you all get 5 less minutes. It may not seem like a punishment, but when you get in, you'll understand.
So, stuff your bellies and let's talk. The sooner this boring stuff is over, the sooner we get to relax."
"Really? Is that the only punishment you wish to enforce on us?" Elyun asked.
"Yep. Look, if I was the king of a nation like Blumund, I'd understand. Fear of those Demon Lords is very relevant in this world. But not for long. Listen, this is top secret, but I'm going to let you in on a little secret.
I'm assembling an alliance. A group of Western countries that will work together and fight against the Demon Lords. Oh, and Milim Nava, Dino, Ramiris and Leon Cromwell are gonna be a part of it."
"Wait, you mean the Demon Lords?"
"Yep. See, here's something that isn't common knowledge. Milim Nava is the daughter of Veldanava and Lucia. So, it may not be instant, but she'll join us. Dino is loyal only to Veldanava and only joined the Demon Lords as he believed it's what Veldanava would've wanted. Ramiris is the administrator of the world, and I can get her to join the same way as I got Veldora.
And Leon, well. Let's just say we have someone he wants to find. He too only joined so he could get the title as a means to help him find this person. When we reunite them, he has no reason to be a Demon Lord."
"A council against the Demon Lords? Preposterous, there's no power that can stand against them."
"There's me. And Veldanava, and Veldora. And my subordinates. And Dwargon who I've got in the alliance already. And I'm not say we just kill them all, trust me, kill The Lord of Darkness would be an incredibly tedious and near impossible task, but we keep them in line.
For centuries, the world has lived in fear that if a Demon Lord comes, they're dead. Children, innocent civilians, all terrified of someone just showing up and killing them.
I'm not saying we join forces and march on their domains, but I am saying we intervene for the sake of humanity. And before you say the Western Holy Church will stop them, they can't."
Henrik then proceeded to tell the four all about Luminous Valentine and how the 11 Great Demon Lords rule over all. They didn't believe it but after Veldanava confirmed it, none of them dared question it.
"The Western Holy Church. Run by vampires and a Demon Lord. The world has trusted them since before most can remember. How could Hinata betray humanity like that?"
"Don't worry, most of the Church believes in their missions much as you did. They just need to be told the truth, and then Luminous will never treat an entire nation as cattle again."
"Do you intend to kill Luminous?" Kaval asked.
"No, but let's just say we have an overgrown lizard she won't risk getting on the bad side off. She's treated innocents like cattle for centuries. I have no issue traumatising her with the past. Now, enough about this, take the proposition of the alliance to your king.
Over the last week, since I knew you were coming, I've actually been thinking of all the alliance would encompass. Including trade, military power and boarders between the nations. Just yesterday, Souei returned from Dwargon and told me that King Gazel has signed the papers and agreed to the terms.
The alliance is still under wraps, so I'd appreciate it if you kept it that way for now. I'd like to get a few more nations involved before going public."
Fuze, still taking in the information that The Western Holy Church was under the rule of a monster, and a Demon Lord at that, sat in thought for a moment before replying. "I can't say I trust this information completely. For hundreds of years, my ancestors, all of our ancestors have trusted and depended on the Church. The ten great saints are meant to be as strong as the Demon Lords, Hinata stronger than multiple. However, I can't deny such strong arguments completely.
I will relay this information to his majesty King Drum, if the intelligence of Blumund can even remotely confirm this, I should think his majesty will want to join your alliance."
"Thank you Fuze. Now, I believe you had a question for Veldanava. At least that's what Souei told me."
Veldanava then put down the manga he was currently reading and turned to the guildmaster. "What is it young man?"
Fuze began to get all flustered as he tried to get his words out but failed. "Breathe Fuze. He's not gonna bite your head off. Probably," Henrik joked.
"Right yes, of course." Fuze replied before composing himself, "Lord Veldanava. You've been gone for 2000 years according to the history books. But, there are some stories that say you created the world.
Elyun also told me this during our first meeting. If I'm honest, I never really believed it. I know the True Dragons are immensely powerful, but the entire world. The fundamental laws of creation, all of it. I doubted the stories. But then, The World Language spoke. It called you the Creator God.
Is it true? Did you really make the world? The concepts, time and space itself. Because if you did, why would you be gone for so long and let the Demon Lords terrorise it? And now you side with a nation that wants to oppose the Demon Lords."
Veldanava, realising how sincere Fuze was being and it being evident that Fuze has a good heart sighed a little.
"Yes, I suppose I did. Truth is, to me it seems like I died and was here instantly," Veldanava said to answer the question honestly but not reveal Henrik's ultimate skills.
"Fuze, long before you were born, I was here. I gave Guy Crimson a responsibility to protect the world. And in a way, he did. He stopped humanity from destroying it by becoming the common enemy. I don't blame Guy for the things he's done, I told him stop humans from progressing too far, I should've taken a moment to show him a better way than destroy an advanced country.
I did make this world, and I quickly abandoned it. I didn't see it at the time, I thought that if it was for the greater good then it's okay. But then, I met my wife. I had my daughter. And I realised the terror I put other men through. By forcing them to lose their wives, their children.
And before I could try to fix it, I lost my life. A lot of the bad things in this world, whether done by my hands or those on my orders, the blame lies solely with me. So, now I'm back, I've decided that I'm going to start. Because my daughter is feared and destructive. And that's the last thing I wanted her to become.
I cannot take back the mistakes of the past young man, but I can try to ensure they never happen again. Maybe then, I'll be worthy of my daughters love.
But I want you to understand something, I'm not the same Dragon from all those stories. He was arrogant, heartless. He was fine with thousands of children being slaughtered because it meant his job was a bit easier. I'm not him anymore.
If it takes me thousands of years, I will help Henrik succeed. Because if he does, then the world will finally be at peace and happy. You humans fly by so fast for me, so I'm not sure if you'll still be here when it happens. But, you descendants will be, and they'll thank you for your hard work to help Henrik.
Provided you do that."
"You truly believe it's possible. To go against the Demon Lords. And win?"
"Who said go against them? Henrik doesn't want a war. It's kinda the point in this new world he'll make. We don't have to fight them, just show them there's a better way. However long it takes. Of course, while this alliance will never declare an all out war, if they do, we will defend ourselves and the innocents."
"Very well. In truth, his majesty always believed in those old tales of you. If you can vouch for King Henrik, I'm sure that'll be enough. Your majesty," Fuze said turning to Henrik, "I'll also need a copy of these papers you had your subordinate show King Gazel. That way, his majesty and his counsel can look over the specifics that Blumund will be needed for."
"Of course, I already have my secretary preparing the papers. They'll be ready for your departure tomorrow. As a brief overview, Blumund's primary position in the alliance will be to use your intelligence resources and confer with Souei and out intelligence for the allied nations.
There's also some trade deals with both us and Dwargon that'll ensure you prosper more."
And that was it, the members of Kaval's party did have some questions for Veldanava but except that the meeting was over. After some relaxing time in the hot springs, Henrik was greeted in his chambers by Elyun and they spent the night talking and doing various other activities.
It seems when they found his body, Elyun's first thought was about how handsome this man is. And thanks to [Perversion], Henrik could see past the illusion magic she always had active and see her elven form. And if there's one thing Henrik liked about fantasy worlds, it was Elven women.
The next day, the four left after Elyun was ready and blushing as everyone knew what happened. Everyone except Veldora who couldn't give a damn. As the boys teased her and Lucia told them to stop but they didn't, a small glance from Veldanava quickly made them stop. Fuze chuckled and it was the last thing Henrik heard before they departed, and a month later, Henrik received word that Blumund joined the alliance.
