Chapter 10
Chapter 10
Ningning threw the washboard on the ground, stood up, and crossed his arms, chin up, looking at Su Fei. “Sit down, let’s have a good talk.”
Su Fei could only sit on the washboard, looking up at Ningning, feeling immediately weakened by his aura. She could only look at Ningning eagerly.
“Can I speak up and appeal?” Su Fei weakly raised her hand to ask.
Ningning thought for a moment, feeling it would be better to make herself clear and let Su Fei understand. “Go ahead, what do you want to say?”
Su Fei finally had the chance to defend herself and quickly raised her hand, swearing, “The money was spent inappropriately, and it might have been wasted. But I assure you, I absolutely didn’t do anything to betray you.”
Ningning, upon hearing Su Fei still not telling the truth, felt sure that she hadn’t done anything good. Could she hide something good like this? It would have been known by everyone long ago.
Ningning’s mind immediately raced, trying to figure out what was wrong in the village and what was abnormal about Su Fei these past few days.
Ningning suddenly realized and immediately grabbed Su Fei’s ear. With a fierce tone, he said, “I knew you didn’t bring back the money! Did you buy that headscarf for Ning Xiangxiang?” He mentioned how Ning Xiangxiang flaunted a new headscarf in front of him every day.
Su Fei’s face turned green at the thought of Ning Xiangxiang, and she covered her ears with her hands, begging, “It wasn’t me, I swear! If it was me, let me be cursed for generations.”
Ningning’s hand, which had relaxed, immediately tightened again. He insisted, “Being cursed for generations is fine, you can still have daughters. Look at how insincere you are when you swear. Tell me where you really spent the money.”
Su Fei realized she couldn’t hide it anymore, especially since her money had vanished without a trace. After saying it, if the villagers found out, she would be criticized for overestimating herself. But today, it seemed like she couldn’t sleep.
Su Fei closed her eyes and, steeling herself, said, “Fine, let go of my ear first! The things I bought with the money are in my backpack.”
Ningning let go of Su Fei’s ear and quickly went to fetch her bag from the room. As she walked, she opened it and found several envelopes, some writing paper, and a few stamps. In disbelief, she said, “You only bought these things? How could you have spent so much money?”
Su Fei felt embarrassed and said hesitantly, “I sent a registered letter with eight stamps. So it was a bit more expensive.” She then looked away, unable to meet Ningning’s eyes.
Ningning pondered. Su Fei was now alone, with no relatives or friends, so who did she write to? Shaking his head, he continued to ask, “You don’t have any relatives or friends, so who did you write to? Go on, continue.”
Su Fei, feeling embarrassed, rubbed her hands and cautiously said, “I submitted a manuscript.”
Ningning had never heard of this term and thought she had stolen something. “Su Fei, what did you steal?”
Su Fei quickly explained, “I didn’t steal anything, I submitted a manuscript. It’s like having an article published in a newspaper. I sent my written article to the newspaper, and if they publish it, they’ll pay me a part of the fee.”
Ningning, realizing it had nothing to do with buying things for Ning Xiangxiang, felt relieved. “Oh, I see, I see.” Actually, he didn’t really understand what it was all about, as long as it had nothing to do with other men.
“Oh, I remember now,” Ningning suddenly realized, then continued, “Hmm, and these writing papers, and stamps, save them for later use. Write more articles when you have time. In case you make some money.”
Ningning said excitedly, “I’m tidying up, and you’re too free, hurry up and go write your articles.” Then he quickly found something for Su Fei to do.
Ningning thought since the money wasn’t wasted, it might as well be put to use. So, he gave Su Fei something to do.
Su Fei finally felt like she had accomplished something perfectly – she dug a hole and buried herself in it. So she dejectedly walked into the house, planning to continue writing.
As Su Fei walked into the bedroom, she suddenly heard Ningning saying, “Your pocket money for next month has been deducted, so you won’t have any spare change next week.”
Ningning saw Su Fei’s petrified expression and couldn’t help but find it amusing.
This incident passed in Su Fei and Ningning’s home, and neither of them thought they would earn any fee from the manuscript.
In the end, they both forgot about the incident, but as punishment, whenever Su Fei made a mistake, Ningning would make her write articles.
Ningning also forgot about Ning Xiangxiang’s frequent flaunting in front of him. He didn’t know that Ning Xiangxiang was currently suffering at home.
In order to marry a good man and escape from the Ning family, Ning Xiangxiang caught the daughter of a wealthy family in the county. This woman also liked Ning Xiangxiang very much and often bought her some small gifts, such as scarves, hairbands, and new clothes.
Ning Daxiong was now suppressing his dissatisfaction. Originally, she just wanted him to flirt with Su Fei and take over Ningning’s house. Especially seeing Su Fei now working as a teacher and helping out at home.
Ning Xiangxiang is now hanging onto this wealthy woman, who is also very rich. Ning Daxiong thought that if Ning Xiangxiang married this wealthy woman, they could make a lot of money. So for now, he was holding back, waiting for Ning Xiangxiang to get married before making any moves.
Ning Xiangxiang can be said to be very popular in Ning Daxiong’s house now. Basically, no one dared to touch him, everyone was flattering him. It can be said that he is now living the good life.
Ning Xiangxiang looked at the new foreign perfume in his hand. Every time he met Su Fei and Ningning, he would look down on them arrogantly. Finally, he didn’t have to be with these old-fashioned country bumpkins anymore; he was going to become a city person.
Time passed slowly like this, and Ning Xiangxiang also had his own affairs to deal with. Ningning and Su Fei lived their very ordinary lives.
Another month passed, and school was on summer break. Su Fei and Ningning began to prepare for the upcoming New Year’s supplies. Today, they were the only ones at home and felt quite wealthy, so they decided to have a good New Year celebration this time.
Just before the New Year, in this time and space, Su Fei finally received an extremely exciting “gift.”
