CH 18
Helen was certain when she saw Yuris running away.
There was definitely something in that illusion theater.
Something that could bring down the Iron-Blooded Knight was inside.
Was that why?
Today, she showed signs of not being able to concentrate fully in her classes at the academy.
‘Nothing is getting through.’
How could it?
The clue to bring down that ‘Iron-Blooded Knight’ was right in front of her.
If a member of the Silvesta family were to bring down the Iron-Blooded Knight, the family’s status would rise even further.
She had done her own research on the illusion theater, but nothing particularly useful had come up.
Even using the Silvesta family’s informants.
– All we have is that it’s a mysterious shop run by an illusion magician. There have been no other customers besides Yuris, so we have no information.
– I heard that Draken enrolled a student in the magic department. They were called a young genius, but there are reports that they changed their career path to illusion magic.
– Should we go in ourselves?
However, if the Silvesta informants were to go in, it was clear they would raise suspicion from either the Iron-Blooded Knight or the illusion magician.
So she withdrew the informants.
It had already been almost three weeks since that shop opened.
And yet, there was only Yuris as a customer.
There was definitely something there.
‘I was planning to wait a little longer and investigate before going…’
But it seemed she had to go now.
If the opponent was elusive, there was only one remaining method.
To break through herself.
To go inside and find out what Yuris was actually doing.
After finishing her class, Helen sprang up from her seat.
It was then.
“Um, um, Miss Silvesta.”
A scruffy-looking male student approached her.
He wore the same uniform that symbolized the academy’s undergraduates, but unlike Helen, his clothes were tattered here and there.
Even with the same uniform, there were clearly different ranks.
An outcast within the department.
His family was poor, and he was timid by nature, making him a loser who couldn’t fit in with anyone in her department.
He didn’t even bother to groom himself, so his face was rather unattractive.
He was the classmate Helen disliked the most in her department.
Of course, the reason she disliked this boy wasn’t just because of his looks.
Poor family.
Tattered uniform.
And an unkempt face.
These three things were extremely bothersome to her, who pursued perfection.
How could he walk around looking like that?
Disgusting.
She pinched her nose with a handkerchief and glared at the boy.
“What do you want?”
“Ah, um, well…”
“Spit it out. Don’t stutter.”
“Um, um, about the liberal arts assignment you gave us today… could we do it together?”
Hah.
How annoying.
The very fact that this pathetic boy dared to speak to her made her angry.
Did he think they were in the same position just because they were both academy undergraduates?
“Get lost. Don’t hover around me.”
“Ah, I-I’m sorry…”
At her sharp words, the loser of the department stepped back and lowered his head.
She didn’t even want to look at that sight.
“Seriously, what bad luck. Today is an important day.”
She covered her mouth with the handkerchief as if she didn’t even want to breathe the same air as the boy who dared to speak to her, and soon left the classroom.
She could hear other academy students snickering.
They were laughing at the loser who dared to challenge the greatest genius of the spirit masters and aimed for the Silvesta family.
Such laughter from losers didn’t matter to Helen.
She hurriedly headed to the shop.
Looking around to see if Yuris might come by.
‘There must be a clue here.’
To catch a tiger, one must enter the tiger’s den.
Taking a deep breath, Helen knocked on the door.
Knock, knock.
She got straight to the point with the magician who revealed himself.
“What was Yuris doing here?”
“Excuse me?”
As expected, a troubled expression.
The illusion magician, called Max, was sweating profusely and avoiding her gaze.
It was clear he was hiding something.
She had expected this.
He probably didn’t think she would suddenly come to investigate Yuris.
Was he scared of that girl?
She could understand.
The name Iron-Blooded Knight was indeed a heavy pressure.
Wasn’t it said that he never loses?
No matter how young and talented, he would surely fear that woman.
But you know.
‘Silvesta is greater.’
By far more than some knight.
The Beletaon family, Yuris’s family, was also a long-established knight family, but it was much smaller than the Silvesta Marquisate.
So.
Our family must win, no matter what.
Helen glared at Max with her arms crossed.
“I already know everything. I know that Yuris came here on the day she won the mock battle. And that she’s a regular here.”
“You knew that much?”
“Yes. So I’ll be direct. Show me what that girl did.”
It was a request for evidence.
“If you show me, I’ll definitely reward you. The Silvesta family doesn’t lie.”
“…That’s difficult.”
Hah.
This was going to be a hassle.
“If you’re scared of Yuris’s retaliation, you don’t need to worry.”
“That’s not it. Our store’s principle is that we never disclose our customers’ information.”
“Hmph, are you saying you’re going to side with that girl?”
“That’s not it.”
“Then what?”
“I’m just a magician running a theater, not on anyone’s side. Who would dare defy a member of the Silvesta family?”
“You know well.”
As expected of a magician.
He had good discernment.
Helen twisted her lips as she looked at Max.
“Then why won’t you give it to me? Do you need something in return? I can pay any amount of money. Isn’t it true that magicians are always short on cash? How expensive are magical materials?”
“…”
The magician fell silent.
There weren’t many magicians who could refuse money.
How expensive were the magical tools and materials used in experiments?
Most magicians who graduated from their schools became the magicians of lords or guarded merchants to cover these costs.
This man would be the same.
That’s how it usually was.
What kind of pathetic magician would dare refuse her?
“I’m sorry.”
Clack.
Helen gritted her teeth.
Ah, how annoying.
She really didn’t like people who thought they were something special.
He wasn’t from a famous family.
And he hadn’t learned any great magic either.
He wasn’t someone with a powerful backing, so why was he so stiff-necked?
Daring to refuse my offer?
He reminded her of the loser who had just dared to speak to her at the academy.
A fool who didn’t even know his place.
“If you don’t tell me, I’ll wipe this shop off the face of the earth in the name of the Silvesta family. I’ll say you’re deceiving people under the guise of illusion magic within the Empire’s territory.”
“Are you serious?”
“I’m not someone who talks nonsense. You know there are many radical believers who consider illusion magic to be sorcery, right? This place is a delicious target for them.”
“…”
“Do you think it won’t happen? I heard you sell desires. You promoted that in noble society, right? Selling desires through illusion magic. Isn’t that something a devil would do?”
Thinking she had gained the upper hand, she smiled and waved her hand.
“I’m not asking about you. My goal is clear. The Iron-Blooded Knight Yuris. Tell me what that girl saw, and I’ll overlook what you sell here.”
The magician sighed.
Ah, how delightful.
It was so satisfying to see someone who didn’t know their place gradually crumble as they realized it.
“If you’re going to come at me like that, I have no choice. I can’t show you the video that Yuris saw, but I can show you what desires she enjoyed.”
Ah, now we’re finally communicating a bit.
“You’ll show me her desires. I like that.”
“Indeed.”
“Good. I like that. Then bring that material.”
“I’ll show you through illusion magic.”
“You want me to enter your illusion?”
“That’s the only way I can show you. I’m an illusion magician, after all.”
“…”
Tsk.
How annoying.
She had only wanted to find Yuris’s weakness and leave right away.
If there was no other way, then so be it.
“Fine. Show me that girl’s desires.”
“Before you enter.”
The magician seated her in a chair and asked.
“Do you have any dislikes?”
“What do you mean?”
***
She was an annoying woman.
It wasn’t a good look for her to threaten me as if she could do something about Yuris.
Helen de Silvesta.
The hope of the Silvesta family.
The best spirit master to lead the future of the family.
Perhaps it was because she had always been raised with love, affection, and attention.
‘What a ridiculous situation.’
What was this as soon as they met?
She knew she had negative feelings toward Yuris, but that didn’t mean it was acceptable to threaten like this.
To declare she would stab the church with accusations of devilish sorcery.
Wasn’t that a declaration to bring down an entire school?
Of course, even if she, the so-called ‘radical’ believer, reported our shop, it wouldn’t lead to its downfall.
No matter how much of a hope she was, she was just a young lady.
While it was true she benefited from the Silvesta family’s prestige, her words wouldn’t easily sway the goddess’s church.
Those who dismissed illusion magic as heresy were only a portion within the church.
Many more believed that such radical actions were problematic.
‘Does she think I opened this shop without knowing?’
Still, I thought it was necessary to correct her habit of threatening people like this.
It seemed she was acting so arrogantly because she had always won and received affection.
She might need to experience defeat at least once.
Wasn’t that what she wanted?
To see the ‘defeat’ that Yuris experienced.
I didn’t want to inject personal feelings into the magic.
‘If I don’t do this, it seems she won’t back down.’
It seemed necessary to toy with her a bit.
I would engrave the experience of losing to what she hated the most deep into her bones.
“I will begin.”
The illusion magic was activated around Helen Silvesta.
