Chapter 3: The Source of the Glow
The Source of the Glow
Ryu's breath hung in the air as the forest around him grew unnervingly silent. His senses, sharpened by Shadow Prowess, picked up faint vibrations in the ground—almost like a heartbeat. The faint pulsing glow in the distance seemed to grow brighter with each step he took, luring him deeper into the dense forest.
The oppressive silence felt alive, as though the trees themselves were watching him. He wasn't sure if it was exhaustion from his battle with the dire panther or something more sinister, but every fiber of his being told him to turn back.
"I've come this far," Ryu muttered, his voice low. "If this world's going to keep throwing surprises at me, I need to learn how to face them head-on."
His resolve hardened, and he pressed forward.
An Ancient Ruin
The glow led Ryu to a clearing, and what he saw stole his breath. Ancient stone ruins jutted out from the earth, covered in moss and vines, as though nature had tried to bury their secrets. At the center stood a tall, crystalline structure, glowing with an ethereal light.
Ryu stepped closer, his instincts on high alert. The air here felt thick, almost heavy, and there was a faint hum, like a deep vibration resonating through the ruins.
"What is this place?" he whispered, his voice swallowed by the hum.
As he approached the crystal, a strange pull gripped him. It wasn't physical, but something deep within him felt connected to the light, as though it was calling to him. He hesitated.
"Is this a trap?" he thought, scanning the area with his heightened senses. The forest was eerily quiet, and no immediate threats appeared.
Cautiously, Ryu reached out and touched the crystal.
The Vision
The moment his fingers made contact, a surge of energy shot through his body, and his vision went white.
Suddenly, he was no longer in the forest. He stood in a vast, open field under a blood-red sky. Around him, titanic beasts clashed in a battle that shook the earth. Wolves larger than houses fought against scaled dragons, winged serpents, and creatures Ryu couldn't even begin to describe.
In the chaos, one figure stood out—a wolfman, clad in armor made of bone, his eyes glowing with an unearthly light. He howled, and the beasts around him rallied, pushing back their enemies with terrifying force.
Then, the vision shifted. Ryu saw himself standing atop a mountain, a pack of wolves at his side, their eyes all fixed on him with unwavering loyalty.
Finally, a voice echoed through his mind:
"The Alpha's destiny is not to follow, but to lead."
Awakening
Ryu gasped as the vision faded, and he found himself back in the ruins. He stumbled backward, his body trembling from the sheer intensity of what he had experienced.
"What… was that?" he panted, clutching his chest.
A soft chime rang in his ears, and his Status Screen appeared.

Ryu's mind raced as he processed the new skill. "Alpha Sense, huh? Looks like this world really wants me to step up."
The Ruins Tremble
Before he could catch his breath, the crystal's glow began to fade, and the hum grew louder, turning into a low rumble. The ruins trembled as cracks spread across the ground.
Ryu's instincts screamed at him to move. He sprinted toward the edge of the clearing, leaping over fallen debris. As he reached the forest's edge, the ruins collapsed behind him, sending a cloud of dust into the air.
But he wasn't safe yet.
A deafening roar echoed through the forest, so powerful that it made the ground shake. Ryu froze, his heart pounding. His Alpha Sense activated for the first time, and he felt it—a massive presence, unlike anything he had encountered before.
It was coming straight for him.
Preparing for Battle
Ryu turned in the direction of the roar, his senses heightened and adrenaline coursing through his veins. In the distance, he saw it—a colossal shadow moving through the trees, its footsteps shaking the earth.
"Of course there's a boss fight after all that," Ryu muttered, baring his teeth. Despite the fear gnawing at him, a part of him felt… excited. The dire panther had been a challenge, but this? This was on a whole other level.
He crouched low, muscles coiled and ready to spring. The shadow drew closer, and as the trees parted, Ryu finally saw his opponent: a massive bear-like creature with obsidian-black fur and glowing red eyes. Its claws were the size of swords, and its breath came out in heavy, steaming huffs.
The bear let out another earth-shaking roar, and Ryu grinned despite himself.
"Bring it on," he said, his voice steady. "Let's see what I can gain from you."
Cliffhanger Ending
The chapter ends with the bear charging at Ryu, its eyes filled with rage, as Ryu braces himself for the fight of his life.
