chapter 10
Chapter 10. Yogur-tosoth
As soon as I closed the window, a dimensional gate opened, and the fragment of the god was delivered.
The fragment of the god looked like dried human tissue, resembling a cross-section of the earth’s strata or layers of dried ancient trees.
I examined it closely with divine power.
「Fragment of the Old God: A fragment of an old god imbued with powerful 〈Mystery〉. It can be used to create a 〈Legendary Creation〉. Creating a 〈Legendary Creation〉 requires at least 1,556 points of 〈Life〉, 〈Mystery〉, and 〈Faith〉. The strength of the 〈Legendary Creation〉 depends on the points spent.
Power of the fragment: 『Master of Magic』」
『Master of Magic: Proficient in using and developing magical mysteries. Can unlock new magical categories without any conditions.』
It’s a mage type. That’s why I wanted to name it Yogur-tosoth. If it were a physical type, I would have named it Shuc-rimmurath.
“There’s no inventory, right?”
“Yes. It has to be placed in the world.”
In that case, I’ll place it in the plains between the Taimon River and the Nectar Oasis.
These plains were originally a desert, but the overflowing water from the lake rich in organic matter turned it into fertile land where life can easily grow.
“Fertile land is a term used for soil good for farming. And farming is a symbol of civilization.”
Some ants also farm.
And filling in wetlands to farm is ecologically insane. The more wetlands, the better.
There is no place richer in biodiversity than wetlands.
I intentionally edited the world’s terrain to create an ‘island’ surrounded by rivers and lakes like a ring, and released aquatic plants, mammals, reptiles, birds, amphibians, fish, and an enormous variety of insects that I purchased from other players.
So now my ecosystem has three main terrains.
The Taymong wetlands and rivers where typical creatures live. There are also remnants of the Taymong civilization.
A freshwater lake where diluted nectar and pure water from the aquifer flow in. (It is still connected now, but someday it will completely merge with the Nectar Oasis)
The Nectar Oasis with Apjuice.
Here, the Nectar Oasis is the core axis of my unique ecosystem, the Taymong wetlands are the terrain that builds a more ‘universal’ ecosystem, and the freshwater lake, where both the Dessert Legion and the universal creatures adapted to it exist, is the intermediate terrain.
Ultimately, the goal is to make all the creatures in my ecosystem members of the Dessert Legion.
“Isn’t it quite difficult to evolve them all to join the Dessert Legion?”
“It is. So I’m causing as many mutations as possible and evolving those that cross from the wetlands to the freshwater lake. And it’s okay to create a separate ecosystem that doesn’t interact with the Dessert Legion at all.”
“Oh? Really?”
“Of course. The Dessert Legion can’t survive outside the areas with abundant sunlight and around the Nectar Oasis. They are excellent defensively, but extremely vulnerable offensively. In this world collision, the opponent might handle the invading jellies without any preparation.”
“Hmm.”
“That’s why it’s important to incorporate and strengthen such ‘natural’ creatures into the Dessert Legion. New creatures that eat ordinary meat and plants, but are themselves members of the Dessert Legion.”
“What exactly is the definition of the ‘Dessert Legion’? Jelly creatures?”
No. Even the jellyfish and jellyfrogs that evolved from ordinary fish and frogs are part of the Dessert Legion.
Since even ordinary organic beings have become part of the Dessert Legion, the Dessert Legion needs a better definition than ‘jelly creatures’.
The top priority condition for the Dessert Legion is to have a ‘mineral body’.
“Nectar jellies don’t seem to have a mineral body.”
They are primitive Dessert Legion. Anything labeled ‘primitive’ is always an exception. And there are nectar jellies with mineral structures.
Anyway, to be called a member of the Dessert Legion, one must have a mineral body structure.
Jellies and puddings already use sand to have glassy or quartz shells, teeth, spines, scales, etc., and jellyfish and jellyfrogs also cover their skin and teeth with such organic-mineral mixtures by eating jellies.
With such mineral bodies, the Dessert Legion gains a terrible asymmetric advantage where they can eat other organisms normally, but other organisms cannot consume the Dessert Legion.
“So you’re going to cover the creatures you bought from other players with mineral bodies as well?”
Yes. The invasion of the Dessert Legion, with tissues combining protein and minerals, is extremely difficult to deal with.
For example, among the creatures I brought in, there is a large reptile similar to a ‘crocodile’. Just having its scales turn into mineral or glassy structures would make it terribly difficult to handle.
“It’s a great idea, but can creatures maintain such body structures?”
“Impossible on Earth. But in a fantasy world, it’s possible. There’s magic here.”
“So, it’s not magic, it’s mystery. Magic is just a part of mystery.”
Ma. Gic.
To me, anything that can’t be scientifically explained is magic.
Anyway, through the energy of magic and divine power, these biologically impossible creatures are roughly created…
Of course, even at a glance, the creatures modified into the dessert corps have an enormous energy consumption and a formidable amount of natural magic consumption.
It means that their body structure makes it difficult for them to function as natural creatures.
“Although the direction is a bit different, it is similar to the ‘artificial creatures’ that can be researched when the levels of <Technology> and <Mystery> go up. Actually, that’s only possible when the level exceeds 15.”
“My <Life> level is 5. It will soon exceed 6.”
“By the way, could you please choose the trait cards that you have been postponing? The level has increased quite a bit while you were looking at the community.”
The levels of <Military>, <Industry>, <Mystery>, and <Faith> each increased by 2. Except for Faith, I have to choose 6 traits.
For <Military> traits, I chose 『Combat Expert』 and 『Mystery Organ Utilization』. These traits enhance combat skills using the body and the magic possessed by oneself.
For <Industry> traits, I chose 『Comfortable Living Space』 and 『Sturdy Structures』. These traits make living at home more comfortable and structures more durable.
For <Mystery> traits, I simply chose 『Light Mystery Specialization』 and 『Fire Mystery Specialization』. This is to increase the efficiency of nectar synthesis.
“By the way, you purchased a legendary creation but haven’t used it yet?”
“There are two reasons. First, the world collision will start soon, and I don’t want to excessively reduce the life points.
Second, I want to choose after raising the level.”
“The <Life> score of the world has exceeded 4085 points, and the level has risen to 6. You can now choose new traits.”
The world has only experienced two collisions, but the entire world is teeming with creatures, and it is already level 6.
The military power is purely at level 3 (441 or higher) due to sheer numbers. It has powerful mysteries, and through evolution, imported crocodiles, giant catfish, and giant frogs have transformed into powerful predators.
I would probably win, but I want to add one more thing here. An element that can overwhelmingly win even if the opponent has developed civilization like a madman.
The level 6 trait can be such an element.
And, I hinted to the angel to give me the trait card. Since I have surpassed level 5, now ‘excellent’ grade traits will come out instead of ‘normal’ grade.
“……”
But there was no response. What the heck. This guy.
“Hurry up and show me the trait card. What are you doing?”
But the angel’s expression, when questioned again, was closer to embarrassment than annoyance.
It was a different kind of embarrassment, not because my world succeeded greatly without civilization, or because the life level is already 6.
“I’m sorry, Player B.”
“?”
“Well… I reported the matter to the higher-ups, but there are no traits that I can recommend to you right now.”
“What nonsense. Why can’t you recommend the traits you used to recommend in the game now that it’s reality?”
Then the angel said something unexpected.
“That’s different. The game’s organizers, including the angels, cannot give players traits that are harmful or unhelpful, nor can they show favoritism to any player.”
“You keep recommending civilization traits to me.”
“That’s because the basic rule of the game is to build civilizations. Even if it’s not the direction the player wants, it’s still adding elements that are lacking in the player’s world.”
That makes sense.
“But the current ‘Life’ issue is a bit different. Originally, ‘Life Points’ were measured based on the diversity of life forms in the game, the robustness of their ecosystems, and the excellence and scale of each life form.”
“I know that.”
“Yes, yes. But during the game, there was a limit to the life forms that could be created. So the traits that could be suggested to the player were also limited, and appropriate traits could be recommended based on the level you reached. Even if there were no traits to recommend, the program was designed to suggest ‘useless traits’ from the list.”
Ah. That happened sometimes. When doing an extreme ‘Life’ build, useless traits would come up in the middle.
“But in your case, Mr. Bean, you have maximized the power of the gods to create life forms that did not exist in any universe, and you have composed an ecosystem solely of such creatures. Our organizers have no idea what traits to recommend that would benefit your ecosystem at level 6.”
So it’s not that they don’t want to give me anything, but they don’t know what to give?
“Yes. Of course, it’s impossible for players to have perfectly balanced and fair competition, but at least it should be fair.
We think your build, Mr. Bean, is extremely interesting and worth watching, even though it completely deviates from the organizers’ intentions.
But we believe that interfering with this build would ruin it or harm fair competition with other players.”
“But you can’t just not give me any traits.”
“Yes…”
I pondered this unprecedented situation for a moment.
“Can’t you modify the game’s rules?”
“It’s unreasonable to modify them just for you, Mr. Bean…”
“So, can’t you modify them for all players? Since there’s a flaw, you could write a patch note.”
In short, I’m not getting the benefits I should be getting, so they should give me a ‘compensation.’
The compensation I want is to choose the trait I receive just once… And the trait I want this time is obvious.
To create legendary creatures with the power of traits.
“As I recall, ‘Life Points’ could only enhance the basic specs of existing creatures, even if they were legendary creatures, fairies, strong heroes, or anything special. But can’t you make it possible from now on?
In short, from now on, whenever my ‘Life’ level increases, I will enhance or create my [Aphojus] or equivalent creatures. I will make this my trait this time.”
“……”
“But let other players do the same. I’m not asking for privileges, I just want to propose a solution and get the compensation I deserve. Can’t you do that?”
“I will communicate with the higher-ups and return.”
The angel disappeared from my sight for a moment.
And then, a message suddenly popped up.
「Notice to all players. Due to an operational defect in this game, we will extend the scheduled time for the world collision. In the meantime, you can continue to manipulate the world.」
「As compensation for the unexpected notice, we will give all players 210 points of 〈Faith〉.」
This game company is doing a good job. They are even giving out free rewards.
Buoyed by the increased faith, I leisurely manipulated the creatures. After a while, an angel who had finished communicating with the higher-ups responded.
“Two proposals made by player B. Rule changes due to the patch notes. And raising the 〈Life〉 level to permanently enhance or newly acquire the abilities of unique entities, including legendary creatures. Both have been approved.”
“Oh.”
“In return, we plan to give all other players one-time 〈Unique Creature〉 creation rights proportional to their 〈Life〉 level as compensation for the sudden rule change. Is that okay?”
Sure. I don’t mind at all.
Because the creature I’m going to create will definitely be several times stronger.
The angel handed over a sparkling ‘Excellent’ grade trait card. I proudly accepted 『(One-time) 3268 additional points for creating a legendary creature』.
Then, I frantically stuffed my divine power, the magic existing in my ecosystem, and the creatures into the fragment of the old god.
Squirm─!
Arise. The master of magic dwelling in the fragment of the old god. Respond to my call.
Squirm─! Squirm─! Squirm─!
Now is the time to write your legend! Appear! Yog-Tosos! The first commander of the Dessert Legion! Show yourself now!!!
“You’re summoning an incredibly powerful creature, and you’re really into it, but the name is not intimidating at all…”
