The Archangel of Death

Chapter 7: Miracle healer

Chapter 7

"Never in my life have I seen or made something like this." The blacksmith commented as he handed me the needless which were still a little warm but hard as a rock. I wasn't mistaken. This man was the only one who could craft something like this. One. He made these needles in only one try and they were perfect down to the last detail.

I smiled as I said, "Thank you. You may not know but because of you, a life will be saved today."

He looked at me strangely. "It seems it is true. About you losing your memory." He said before shooing me away. I bowed in courtesy before I left the smithy.

I met with Rose outside, and we traveled back to her house. I saw Kate changing the coals with new ones. She stood up once she saw me, but I waved my hand before she greeted me or knelt.

There was no time to lose. I removed the coal from the patient's back and raised his body by placing all the mats and pillows in the house. Since there was no anesthesia, I could only block his neural vessels to stop him from feeling the pain. But that didn't mean that his body wouldn't react, so I instructed both Rose and Kate, "No matter what happens, hold him and keep your faith strong."

I applied the burning side of the coal to the swollen part but there was not much reaction from the patient. Then I inserted one needle from the side of the swelling to block the blood flow. It was a risky move since if I hit the wrong nerve, internal bleeding might commence but luckily it didn't. The needle was sharp but blunt enough to press the vessel, not penetrate it.

The craftsmanship of the old man was astonishing. But now came the hardest part. I inserted the second needle which was thicker than simple needles. The reason being that this needle also acted as a funnel.

Its head was a hole that would insert itself in the puss and the puss would flow out from the other side of the needle. The problem was that although the needle wasn't thick, it was thick by the standards of the human body so any deep insertion or if there were any vessels around the Abscess, it would be game over.

Slowly and steadily, I inserted the needle while with my other hand, I took his pulse from the area around his lung. As soon as the needle the blob of puss, he started trembling, but Rose and Kate held him down.

I turned the needle slightly and spun it ever so slightly and he stopped trembling. Everything stopped altogether, such as his breathing. Rose and Kate were about to panic when I placed my mouth at the other end of the needle and sucked.

After a few moments, puss started flowing from the other end of the needle and I was happy to see that there was no blood in it. It meant the treatment worked. The patient also took a deep breath right at that moment to show that he was alive.

I let the puss flow which was quite a lot from the looks of it. It was a miracle how he had lived this long. Once all the puss had stopped flowing out, I carefully extracted the funnel needle, and then just as I was about to extract the needle holding his blood flow, I applied the heal skill while taking it out.

Even a heal was amazing at this point. Good enough for me to not require any medicine to regulate the blood flow and close any internal wounds. The healing didn't work before because the defense mechanism of the body had stopped the puss in one place therefore making it a part of the body.

Once done, I unblocked his neural vessels to resume the connection between his body and the brain so it wouldn't be long before he woke up.

"His breathing is normal now. Try to feed him something with a lot of fat. Rose, take some beef from the castle under my name and feed it to him after cooking it thoroughly." I started spewing instructions but both Rose and Kate were looking at me with their mouths open.

"Now," I yelled, and they both snapped out of their reverie. Rose hurriedly left acting on my instructions while Kate came closer to her husband and held his hand. Since I had nothing left to do, I left the house after Rose left and made my way to the commoner's district.

It was pleasant to see the change in my status. In just one day I had increased my level enough to now run about two hundred meters without running out of breath.

[You call that an achievement?]

'Huh! What would you know? There were days when running an extra meter was an accomplishment to me.' I wasn't always strong. Fragment or not, I wasn't born strong. Yet every time I made my way up from rock bottom and every time, even a minor improvement was an achievement.

'Transfer me the language pack.' I asked Allison and the next moment; a lot of information was poured into my head. Although I could understand everyone since earlier, our lips weren't in sync. It meant that they were speaking in another language, but it was being translated. The same was the case in vice versa.

But that didn't mean that I could write. That was why I needed the universal language pack. Usually, it isn't free, but Allison is more in control than I had first assumed.

Anyway, now that I was done with that, I went to a shop and a fat merchant broke into cold sweat when he saw me. I ignored his reaction and asked, "Give me a piece of charcoal and a skin to write on. If you have paper, then give that to me instead."

Although troublesome, he still gave me the things I required without asking anything. His reaction was troublesome as if I would gobble him up the next moment. It was the same for every shop I went to.

I returned to the slums and embedded the board on which I had written my resume in the ground. It simply read, "Free treatment of any curable disease."

I couldn't treat diseases related to mana since I had none myself. It was the same case in every fragment. It was for this reason, that I had to resort to other powers and also why unlike my father, my research in power was related to life, not to death.

[Shouldn't you be doing everything in your power to get strong?]

Allison asked but I didn't think the same. Of course, if I wanted to, I could become stronger than everyone in this world in just a small span of five years. That was if I didn't try my hardest. Just consider how much less that time would be if I gave it my all.

But first and foremost, I was a doctor. The number of people flocked with sickness was the most in the slum area and I noticed it the moment I entered the slums. I will first deal with this, then I will focus on getting stronger.

Still, with my reputation, no one stopped, and everyone avoided me like a plague. Correction, they would rather embrace a plague than me.

I, however, was not disheartened. It's not the first time I am treated like this. And all I had to do was wait. They were all humans in the end. When they would lose all hope, they would turn to the only option they had. Me.

It wasn't long before I was proven right when a mother came to me vigilantly while carrying a baby in her arms. The baby was burning hot. The baby, who was apparently a girl, wasn't more than three months old.

"Please, help." She said while crying and she even forgot to kneel to me. Of course, she would. Her child might as well not live for long. She would hardly have any time for common courtesies.

Anyway, "Give her to me." I took the baby from her and gave her a thorough check-up and was instantly relieved. Her symptoms were very simple. Runny nose, Nasal congestion. Her throat was a little welled which would indicate a sore throat and her body was burning which was a sign of fever.

All symptoms point to only one problem. Rhinovirus. Thank goodness as I have no antibiotics with me right now. If it had been a case of pneumonia, then I would have been stuck.

Luckily, Rhinovirus doesn't require antibiotics of any kind. Treatment was also very easy, so I said, "Go home and bring boiling water and salt. Hurry."

She was confused but still ran home. She returned after a few moments with her hand quite red which meant that she ended up burning herself. Still, she brought the water in a pan and salt with her. I handed over the baby to her, took the water, and poured about half a teaspoon of salt in the water about one cup.

Once done, I stirred it violently which burned me as well but since there was no proper equipment to do so, there was no other choice. Done with that, I had my saline solution prepped to be administrated. Of course, I couldn't do so while it was hot.

Just about at that time, Rose had found me as well. "Ahh, Rose. Perfect timing. Don't ask. In fact, don't speak at all. Run along and get me some honey. Hurry."

Before she could ask me what was going on, I had already instructed her on what I needed next. Being as loyal as ever, Rose didn't inquire about anything and left to get honey and just after fifteen minutes, she was back.

I took the honey, tasted it to make sure it wasn't too mild for the baby, and administered it to relieve the sore throat of the baby. Then I took my readied saline solution inserted a few drops of it through her nose and then turned her on her back.

She sneezed after a few moments which also removed any waste in her nostrils. Since she was a baby, I doubted that there would be much, so I did it again. This time the waste was quite less. On doing it again, there was hardly any of it.

The fourth time was the charm and now the girl was breathing normally. The issue of her fever still remained but that would soon be done with. The problem was the same as Rose's father. Heal spell or skill, heals the whole body. This meant that if it was applied to the baby while the waste was inside her, the waste wouldn't have been removed. Once it was removed, then there was no problem at all.

"Heal." I applied the heal skill to the baby and her fever died down quite quickly. Even though I was a man of science, I still had to give a thumbs up to heal. Otherwise, this fever would have taken at least three days to die down, yet it was gone with just a wave of my hand.

Next, I took the boiled water, which was now slightly warm only, and applied heal on it as well. This would purify the water and make it safe for baby consumption.

"Only feed this water to her along with whatever you want to feed her. If you run out of water, then find me or a priest and have them apply heal on the water. Do this for only one weak and her sore throat will be completely cured." I instructed the mother amidst her nonstop rants of gratitude. I also applied another heal on her hand and there was another round of gratitude.

However, her nonstop chants of gratitude also attracted the attention of the surrounding people. I was finally about to get busy.
