Chapter 9: CHAPTER 9:The Order of the Sun
Leo landed on the rocky shore cursing, with a groan he held back the painful urge for him to vomit all of his stomach contents. "I thought you assassins were supposed to be as strong as wild beasts" Edward mockingly said with a smile.
Leo ignored the mage and instead took in the beautiful sights and sounds of the northern sea."I will give you magic losers one thing, you certainly know how to appreciate the beauty of things". Edward hearing this, puffed out his chest "Of course, after all this castle was built and designed by ancient elven architects". Contrary to both the mages expectations, the assassin simply nodded in approval without giving any snarky remark on his part.
They made their way to the shoreline where many mages and royals stood, waiting for the two serpents to carry them to the castle. "Assassin you will be required to drop your weapons at the entrance of the castle" Gregory said "And also try not to look around the castle too much".
A red bearded dwarf wearing a gold monocle, appeared out of thin air before he addressed the crowd at the shoreline "For those of you outsiders who are not aware of our rules, anyone without any permit that tries to board the serpent will be eaten irrespective of their royal status.
The dwarf waited to see if anyone in the crowd had changed their mind and continued "Remember no one is to enter here with any magical item that can be used for spying and two all members shall board first before any outsiders". After the dwarf had said this a small conch appeared in his hands moments before it gave a loud bellow that echoed throughout the shore.
Two massive roars answered the conch from beneath the seas, and slowly two gigantic serpentine necks one crimson red and the other azure blue appeared from the calm waters. All first time visitors to the castle stared in awe at the serpent's scales that continuously shimmered in the sun and the beautiful eyes that adorned their elephant sized heads. With another roar showcasing their horrendous fangs, the serpents stared intently at the humans standing before them before they spoke in a voice of astonishing eloquence "All visitors should please step forward for authentication".
Everybody hearing this moved forward with the mages and those accompanying them taking the front of the queue. The two serpent's eyes gave of violet rays that scanned the visitors, separating the mages from the outsiders while also checking for hidden magical items and those who may still have the gall to enter without permission.
After what seemed like an hour to most outsiders the serpents turned around, showing a wooden structure with up to a hundred seats that instantly appeared on their backs. All the mages and those accompanying them rode the crimson serpent leaving the outsiders to ride the azure one that bore a less comfortable carriage. Leo and the mage brothers were made to sit at the very back of the crimson serpent, a spot that was reserved of mages of the low mortal rank while those of the higher ranks sat further up in more comfortable seats.
Not minding their position Leo still enjoyed the ride for unlike a ship or boat that repeatedly moved up and down due to the motion of the waves, the serpent moved through the waves like an arrow without encountering any form of resistance. The ride was also made more enjoyable by the gentle sea breeze and the sound of the calm waves that passed beneath them.
The serpents swam leisurely, only raising their heads from time to time in order to take in some breaths of air while their short fins travelled through the clear waters with the paddle tail making large ripples as it propelled them towards the castle....
"Assassin you will have to drop your weapons" said a tall elven mage dressed in a brown tunic with a tawny cloak. Leo with a smile opened his cloak to show his daggers that had now disappeared. "Nice trick" added the elf with a smile while he escorted them towards the castle. The castle was decorated with many beautiful paintings while the roof was made up of many murals that told the story of the ancient battle against Camhyr the destroyer. The crimson carpets coupled with the crimson banners added a cozy feel to the castle while the white spiral stairs made it to look a little bit more fancy. "Over to your right assassin is the office of Redbeard the gatekeeper" the elf said pointing at one of the first offices that greeted them as they alighted the first floor. Edward unlike his brother and the elven mage was quite pissed at the way their visit had turned into some tour. "No offenses Senior Hamilton, but don't you think it's time for us to meet the Supremes? "Oh please, they had informed me to give our highly esteemed guest a tour of the castle before 'He' gives his report" Hamilton replied putting his hand around Leo's shoulder while he showed him the stairs that led to the immortal's lodge. The two brothers followed behind angry at the confused gazes directed at them by some other higher ranked mages that wondered why two mortals were tailing after a god rank. "They must have committed a grave offense" murmured a mage to his colleague. "No I think they might be his illegitimate sons that he had been forced to take care of" added his colleague on seeing Gregory's slightly pointed ears.An hour later and much to the relief of the two brothers, they had arrived at the golden door that led to the supreme lodge. Hamilton taking a good breath and looking at his attire gave a stern look at the brothers before he and Leo walked through the door. Gregory and Edward with a sigh left the area angry that one of their greatest desires had just been dashed.Leo on entering the area dropped to one knee before he bowed before the five golden clothed mages that were seated before him. Hamilton followed suit before he raised his head and stated the reason of his visit "My elders this assassin had been engaged in a battle against one of our banished mages; Vilfortz". With a deep golden voice one of the male elders; an elf with dark skinned spoke up "You may both rise, but I think it will be in our best interest for the panther to narrate in full detail what had happened to him". Leo on hearing this smiled and began his story, not omitting anything while he explained his battle against the rogue mage and the demon in far more great details. The Supremes in hushed tones talked to each other before they ordered Hamilton to go ahead and call all the heads for it seemed like a threat on the level of Camhyr had just made its way into the phoenix.*******************************************************************
