Chapter 258 - Not Drunk

Chapter 258 Not Drunk

Kuang Youzhi quickly placed one hand on Murong Yunxi’s pulse. He held his breath, being focused and serious while he read her pulse.

After a moment, Kuang Youzhi released Murong Yunxi’s slender wrist and gave a soft sigh.

Gong Yu immediately became nervous. “Master, how is it?”

Kuang Youzhi looked up at Gong Yu’s anxious expression. Prince Yu had always been cold and cool-headed. To think that there would be moments when he would actually panic. Perhaps that truly reflected the saying that one simply did not really meet the person.

“Her condition was caused by the merging of the newly connected nerves with the original nerves and it can only be eased when the fusion is complete.”

“Didn’t you say earlier that you had prepared a painkiller? Give it to her quickly then. She looks like she is feeling very uncomfortable.”

“The painkiller might not necessarily stop this type of pain. It can merely relieve the pain for the wounds on her head. It might not have much effect on this type of nerve pain.”

Gong Yu was slightly shocked and turned to look at Murong Yunxi, who appeared to be in great pain as she laid on the bed. “Then how long will she have to remain in pain?”

“It is also my first time to perform this type of surgery. It’s hard for me to gauge the specific situation. At the moment, she can probably only rely on herself.”

Gong Yu looked at Murong Yunxi and walked up to hold her small hand, which was fully covered in sweat and even trembling slightly.

“Xiao Xi, if it hurts, you can pinch or even bite me.”

Murong Yunxi’s lips curled up into a slight, forced smile and she shook her head gently. “It’s alright. It is not that painful. I’ll be alright after a while.”

Gong Yu picked up the towel on the side and gently wiped the sweat on Murong Yunxi’s face.

Murong Yunxi shut her eyes tightly and her beautiful eyebrows scrunched together tightly. The area between her eyebrows was already mildly red. Sweat continued to seep out continuously and while Gong Yu had just wiped off the layer of sweat previously, another layer of sweat formed immediately. Her face became increasingly pale and as her teeth bit into her lower lip, it had already become blood red, looking as if blood would ooze out in the next second.

Gong Yu was holding onto Murong Yunxi’s little hand; he could clearly sense that she was squeezing his hand tightly. Even his strong, tough bones felt as if they were nearly crushed and that caused his heart to ache even more.

After a while, the pain seemed to have passed and Murong Yunxi slowly opened her eyes. She was so drained that she barely had the strength to open them. It was as if her body was emptied out and she did not even have the strength to pant.

Gong Yu caressed Murong Yunxi’s hair lovingly and his eyes actually glistened with tears, as he looked at her feeble looking face.

When Murong Yunxi turned and met Gong Yu’s eyes, her heart felt a jolt of shock.

“Why are you crying?” Murong Yunxi’s voice was already so weak that it was slightly elusive; it made one’s heart wrench upon hearing it.

Tears instantly trickled down Gong Yu’s face and dripped onto the back of Murong Yunxi’s hand.

Murong Yunxi forced a smile but she was so pale that it made one’s heart ache even more.

Gong Yu raised his hand and gently closed Murong Yunxi’s eyes. He said in a hoarse voice, “Close your eyes and rest for a while!”

Gong Yu was unwilling to let Murong Yunxi see him in such a vulnerable state, as it would make her worry even more. However, his tears could not stop falling. They were like a string of pearls that had snapped and fell even more like a overflooding dam.

Recently, Murong Yunxi’s listening abilities were already trained and became unusually skilled. She instantly caught onto Gong Yu’s strangeness. She patted Gong Yu’s hand lightly and her clear, black eyes looked fixedly at Gong Yu.

“Yu, I am really doing well now. You do not have to feel sad. The pain is only temporary. Initially, all of you thought that there was no cure to my poison. At least I am still alive now. Afterwards, all of you thought that I would never be able to see again, but now, I can still see you. This is already the greatest grace that I have received. I will undoubtedly have to pay a little price to exchange for such a great benefit. Everything will pass eventually.”

Gong Yu’s tears flooded out even more fiercely. He even began to choke up. He rarely lost control of himself. He would only lose control of himself over and over again whenever he met Murong Yunxi.

“Alright. It looks ugly for a grown man to be crying like this. Your current behavior would make me, your wife, feel very embarrassed! Alright. Be careful, if Niannian knows about this in the future, she will laugh at you!”

Amused by Murong Yunxi, Gong Yu finally burst out into laughter. He turned to look at Murong Yunxi with his eyes which were blurred by tears and lifted his hand to wipe away the tears on his face.

“Sorry! I really seem to be useless. Now, you actually have to comfort me instead.”

“Don’t say that. You are only useless in front of your wife. You are still very mighty and domineering in front of outsiders.”

While the two of them were speaking, Kuang Youzhi entered with a bowl of medicine.

“Come, Xiao Xi. Drink this and you’ll feel better.”

Kuang Youzhi brought the bowl of medicine directly up in front of Murong Yunxi. Gong Yu took over the bowl of medicine and scooped up a spoonful of the black medicinal soup. He brought it up to his mouth and blew it before sending it to Murong Yunxi’s mouth.

When the medicinal soup was brought close to Murong Yunxi, the bitter and astringent herbal scent drifted into her nose and she could not help but frown slightly.

Gong Yu instantly became anxious. “What’s wrong? Are you in pain again?”

Murong Yunxi shook her head gently and she had a troubled look on her face. “No. The medicine’s smell is too bitter and based on its scent, it already seems the taste is also horrible.”

Seeing how the couple behaved, Kuang Youzhi could not help but chuckle softly. “Hahaha. The is no medicine that is not bitter! It’s better to be slightly bitter than to be in pain.”

Murong Yunxi sniffled and she pouted her lips. Eventually, she closed her eyes and gulped down the medicine in one gulp.

The bitter and astringent taste of the medicinal soup flooded her entire taste buds and it caused Murong Yunxi’s entire tiny face to scrunch up like a little bun.

Gong Yu could not help but laugh out loud. “You are so useless. Simply drinking a medicine made you look like this. Look how incapable you are.”

Murong Yunxi looked at Gong Yu with her pair of black pupils. “It was clearly horrible tasting. Try it if you don’t believe me.”

Kuang Youzhi looked at the both of them and laughed increasingly heartily. “Yes. Now that you can even make a joke, it proves that you are really fine now.”

Subsequently, Gong Yu continued to feed Murong Yunxi one mouthful at a time until the bottom of the bowl could be seen.

Over the next few days, from time to time, Murong Yunxi would still experience so much pain that she would sweat up a storm and she would experience full body seizures. Gong Yu guarded her and never left her side. Everyday, Kuang Youzhi huddled up in the study room and read through medicinal classics to try and find a better way to help Murong Yunxi. Since even Nanny Wu was there, she changed to a different style every day and prepared delicious dishes for everyone, especially for Murong Yunxi. She prepared an exquisite medicinal meal set for her.

Their days seemed to pass by quite well, but the outside was already overturned in chaos, Duanmu Gongcheng had investigated everyone that night, but not a single person remembered what had happened at that time. They even completely forgot about the things from recent events.

Duanmu Gongcheng tried to arrest the people in Emperor Yu’s Mansion but he found that the people had left and the mansion was empty. He inquired around and everyone said that the Prince had already taken the people away a few days ago. However, as a party involved in the situation, Duanmu Gongcheng did not even know that he had already arrested the people a few days ago. So where did he lock away those people? He was actually completely clueless.

Everything seemed to be more complicated and it became harder to unravel the truth. That made it hard for Duanmu Gongcheng to wrap his head around the situation.

He summoned the imperial doctor and an examination by him that there was nothing unusual with his body; everything was fine.

Duanmu Gongcheng completely had no idea as to where the problem laid. He could only go on a wild goose chase by himself and he still could not even catch half a glimpse of Gong Yu’s shadow.

He sparked a heated discussion in Jin Lin City and eventually provoked the emperor’s dissatisfaction. The emperor summoned him over for a round of lecture and eventually, he did not dare to bring the matter up anymore and could only place the matter on hold for the time being.

On that day, Gong Yu called Kuang Youzhi over and discussed the matter of returning back. The two men talked for a full four hours in the study room and finally, everything was properly discussed.

Gong Yu would try to bring Kuang Youzhi and Baili Ziyi to return to that world. That was provided that he could successfully leave with the two of them.

Kuang Youzhi would leave his current place of residence to Nanny Wu to use for her retirement. Dong Fangying and the others would stay and take care of Nanny Wu for the time being. When the matter had blown over, they would leave the valley and seek their own fresh, new life.

It seems that everything was properly discussed and the sadness of the separation seemed to have begun to spread in the cave. Even the heavens seemed to be sad for them and it drizzled for two consecutive days.

On that day, the sky had cleared up after a show and Murong Yunixi’s pain seemed to have eased significantly, so they prepared to take action.

Nanny Wu prepared a table of good wine and food. Everyone seemed to have no appetite but they still pretended to be happy and finished the entire table of food.

However, it seemed that nobody could get drunk that day, regardless of how much they drank. Even Murong Yunxi, who would be completely knocked out after a glass of alcohol, surprisingly managed to finish a bottle of alcohol without even a slight sense of tipsiness.

Baili Ziyi could not help but ask, “Are we even drinking alcohol today? Why do we not get drunk regardless of how much we drink?”

Gong Yu also frowned and looked at the bottle in his hand. “Based on its taste and texture, this should be alcohol. There should be no problem? But we’ve already drunk more than a dozen bottles, yet…”

Murong Yunxi also nodded her head in agreement. “Yes. Even for a person like me who gets drunk easily, I am still fine, even after drinking a bottle of alcohol today.”

Kuang Youzhi frowned slightly and was lost in thought.

Only Nanny Wu said slightly happily, “It’s good that you are not drunk. If you can’t leave today, then let’s try again tomorrow. It seems that the heavens are unwilling to let you leave today. It probably felt that an elderly lady like me would be too lonely and wanted you all to keep me company for one more day.”

Even the usually serious and unsmiling Dong Fangying also smiled slightly, and looked down to eat his vegetables without speaking.

While everyone felt suspicious, they were understanding and could only give up.

In the evening, everyone piled up a bonfire in the courtyard and sat around it. They watched the sky quietly and watched the fire. Everyone was silent but it also felt as if they had spoken a thousand words.

The next day, Nanny Wu prepared a table of good food once more and everyone ate with the intention of leaving after they were drunk. However, the results remained the same.

It was still the same on the third day.

The fourth day…

Until the seventh day, Gong Yu finally could not sit still any longer. He looked at a table of food and was lost deep in thought with a frown. Kuang Youzhi also hugged both his arms and appeared to be pensive.

The two of them did not touch their chopsticks and everyone did not dare start to eat.

Puzzled, Nanny Wu asked, “Why aren’t you all eating?”

Suddenly, Gong Yu looked up and stared hard at Nanny Wu, as if he had seen through her soul.

Nanny Wu touched her own cheeks and asked in bafflement, “Prince Yu, why are you looking at me? Is there something on my face?”

Gong Yu stared coldly at Nanny Wu and said cooly, “Nanny Wu, do you want to say it yourself or do you want me to speak for you?”
