The Boss King actually disguised himself as a novice village chief?!

Chapter 2: Chapter 2 The Green-Haired Undead

Lind managed to keep his expression in check before shifting his attention away from the official website.

He had always believed his Golden Finger would be something extraordinary, but to his surprise... it was just an official website!

This is a game world!

Bad news, he couldn't grind monsters for levels; there was no system.

Good news, at least he could still access the official website, even though it seemed useless for now.

The soldiers around didn't believe Loves White Silk's words, with some even whispering, "The Ring of Magic has shattered, how can there still be gods?"

"Sir, we should just kill him," Leo said decisively. "His origins are unknown, he's ugly, and he might be related to those creatures."

"Damn, this is hell difficulty. Had I known NPCs judge by appearances, I wouldn't have fooled around," Loves White Silk's muttering didn't escape everyone's ears, but most regarded him as a madman, ignoring the nonsensical ramblings they couldn't understand.

Lind gazed at Loves White Silk's face, pondered for a moment, and asked, "You say you're a knight on a divine mission to save the world?"

As he spoke, he had already subconsciously started role-playing. After all, maintaining a good demeanor as an NPC wasn't just for conning players later on but also for providing better service.

"Yes!" Loves White Silk nodded, looking at Lind with anticipation. It was a powerful feeling he had—after years of gaming experience—he's about to get a quest!

"Then, the revelation I felt in last night's dream must have been about you," Lind calmly fabricated a non-existent dream.

Divine revelations were easy to concoct, drawing from the elegance of Goliath's nobility from the City of Gold and a soldier's imposing manner, filling him with a presence even players had to believe, not to mention he was quite the actor, having claimed the title of Skit King at his company's annual gathering for five years in a row before transmigrating.

In short, he would be seen as an NPC by the players.

Loves White Silk hurriedly nodded: "Yes, that's me, no doubt!"

Lind said earnestly, "The Ring of Magic is broken, the last embers of life are dying out, and at this critical moment of survival, I heard the whispers of All Gods in a confused dream, saying that a stranger will help us rekindle the light!"

The soldiers' mouths fell open slightly—there was such a thing?

Looking at Loves White Silk again, is this what a god's messenger looks like?

Loves White Silk nodded continuously, accepting it with grace, and even puffed out his chest.

"If you truly are the one spoken of by the gods, then you should be able to help us," Lind said with practiced rhetoric. "I won't lie to you, we've run into a bit of trouble. A pack of jackals has been attacking passersby, and we too have been tormented beyond words."

The soldiers at his side were completely clueless—what was the Lord implying? Such an abrupt turn of events; why would he suddenly believe this ugly fellow? And what about the jackal attacks... it's us who have been hunting the jackals but unable to catch them, right?

But to Loves White Silk's ears, it sounded entirely different.

Awkward? No, no, no, this is so normal!

"I can eliminate those jackals!" Loves White Silk stood up excitedly, now only short of shouting, "I am a Foot Soldier, just let me work!"

The soldiers looked at each other with odd expressions. It was true that these jackals were their prey, but they were tough to deal with. They moved quickly, always in packs, and were cunning and skilled in ambushes.

Nobody wanted to get injured at a time when resources were scarce; an injury meant certain death.

This guy before them seemed so weak; could he really fight against the jackals? Even if he could kill one, he would surely break an arm, and death would be his only path afterward.

Loves White Silk cleared his throat and bent down to say, "Lord, please trust me. Helping those in need is my mission in this world! I am ready to embrace the darkness!"

If one could overlook that face with a unique aesthetic unique to soul-type players and the tuft of bright green hair, along with the translated accent in his lines, Lind could reluctantly admit there was something knightly about him.

Probably the other party thought he was an NPC who could only trigger fixed lines, so he was straightforward without any concealment, saying whatever came to mind.

The NPC identity isn't bad either, at least it's a layer of protection, rather than a red-named wild monster.

Lind nodded, "If you can really hunt down the jackals and prove your identity, I'll allow you to temporarily reside at Star Dragon Ridge and provide you with assistance."

Loves White Silk hurriedly asked, "Can you tell me the approximate location where the jackals were seen?"

"Of course," Lind nodded, extending his hand and pointing, "Straight ahead, in the withered woods. If you hold your breath and listen carefully, you should be able to hear the howling of wolves."

But it's also possible that you'll find nothing, Lind thought to himself.

He knew that the lair of the jackals was deep in the withered woods, but he never intended to venture deep into the woods. It wasn't a hunt; the outpost couldn't bear the consequences if someone got injured. They had a little bit of medicine, but they couldn't afford to lose manpower.

The soldiers' expressions changed again. Does the lord think of the other party as God's Knight? Surely he's just considering the other party as food for the jackals, but they didn't say anything. They followed the lord's orders above all else.

"Yes, I'll go right away!" Loves White Silk said excitedly, turning and crawling out of the hole.

The breach in the city wall had also widened.

"My lord, this..."

The soldiers simply didn't believe in the so-called Knight of God; after the Ring of Magic broke, the gods had fallen silent and disappeared.

Moreover, to kill wolves, with the other party having neither weapon nor clothes, was simply seeking death.

"Leo, Riff, Reed! The three of you, follow him from a distance," Lind said, "Pay attention to everything that happens to him. If he is in danger, no need to lend a hand; you can bring back the body."

Indeed, the lord had not believed for a moment that the other party was God's Knight.

"Yes!"

The three soldiers prepared their crossbows and arrows and crawled out through the breach in the wall, their armor scraping against the edges, sending a cascade of stones falling down.

Lind: ...

He suddenly really wanted to kick these three fools.

Lind sighed, "Let's patch up the hole first."

If a large hole remains open in the wall at night, who knows what might crawl inside. He inspected the claw marks at the breach, feeling anxious—the creature that broke the wall was no ordinary beast.

A group of people bustled around. They moved a few stones over and dug up some soil with hoes, managing to block the hole. It wasn't sturdy, but it would have to do until they could figure out a more permanent solution later.

Meanwhile, Leo and the other two had already run back.

"What happened?" Lind asked.

"Dead," Leo said, his expression somewhat strange. The other two looked the same, as if they had witnessed something bizarre and terrifying.

Lind already had a guess, but he still asked, "Where's the body?"

"It disappeared."

"Tell me exactly what happened," Lind said.

"That strange man," Leo recalled, "kept running towards the withered woods and happened to run into a pack of jackals. Then he picked up a stick and charged at them and was bitten to death. He charged too fast, and we were too far away to help. In the end, he said..."

"What did he say?"

"King of the dog salaries."
