Chapter 10: Return of the Angel
A faint buzz fills my ears. It was quiet, but soothing. Whispers soon follow. I know not where they come from, but they were the voices of a man and woman, standing over me.
"Is he going to make it?" The man says
"He should. He hit is head really hard and has a concussion. He needs to rest."
"What can we do?"
"For now, nothing. Let him rest."
The voices start to fade away again and I begin to feel sleepy again. When I come to, everything is quiet. I find myself on a soft bed. The room I am in feels cozy and warm. Pictures and paintings hang all over the walls. They were painted a dark red color with white accents along the doors and windows. It reminds me of a castle environment for a princess or prince. There is an exceptionally large window to my left. As I look through it, I notice something. There was a ship. It was small from where I sat, but it seems to be flying forward, yet it is not moving. Wait are we moving, too?
I find a set of clothes on a chair next to me, almost like they were left there, and I run for the window. I spot a balcony on the other side of the curtains and as I pass through them, my suspicions are confirmed. I count six ships in very close proximity with each other. The ship I saw before turns out to be the same ship I am in on the other side. Below me was the largest of the ships, hovering just over the clouds. I spot people walking all over the top of the ship. It seems to be doubling as a gathering area between the ships.
A surprise awaits me as I continue to scan the horizon. To my left, sat The Brotherhood. It was being dragged along the water by four massive tow ships, with engines as big as the ships themselves. These things are normally used in scrapyards but here they are, dragging the ship like a boat. Right below me, a woman with a large circular hat spots me. She has this look of surprise, like she hasn't seen me in years or something. She takes off her hat and reveals herself to be Clara, who jumps for joy and waves at me, before running off back into the crowd and I lose her again.
An hour later the rest of the crew arrives. Surrounding me and happy that I made it out ok. Apparently, I was out for a few days. A man arrives through the door in the back as we talk and greets us. He's young, about my age, maybe a little older. His skin is pale, and he sports a brown mustache and short hair. He wore a black military uniform, but not one I have ever seen before.
"Good afternoon." He says. "I see everyone has gotten reacquainted again."
"Yeah. It would seem so." Oniv says.
"Very good. We are getting close to our destination. My boss would very much like to meet all of you when we arrive."
"And you said he can provide the tools we need to fix our ship, correct."
"Of course."
"Nice."
"What's going on?" I ask.
"We advise everyone to get topside before we land, understood?" the man continues.
Everyone nods and he leaves the room.
"What's going on?" I ask again.
"It's a long story."
"Hmm."
"They are the inhabitants of this planet. After we crashed into the ocean, they spotted us and offered to repair our ship in exchange for some favors."
"Favors?"
"And let me guess, we don't know what they are yet?"
"Hey," Clara says, "We are not worried about that right now. Just take it easy."
"Fine."
I reach down into my pockets an realize I am missing Angel's drive, I frantically look for it, panicking a little before Clara stops me.
"Ax, calm down." she says
"Where is she? Where is Angel's drive?" I ask.
Clara smiles for a moment and turns to Bern, who nods his head.
"Let's go show him." He says.
Clara, Bern, and Oniv lead me out of the room and down the hall toward a large corridor. Once we enter, we turn a hard left and end up in a massive room filled with computers, storage units, and wires. In the center of it all was an android. Its hair was white as snow, her eyes were a bright teal, and her little ears were taking shapes, sort of. It has no clothes; it has no sexual features. Everything seems to be digitizing into existence, and it looks very close to finishing.
"What is this?" I ask.
"This is an incubation chamber."
"For what?"
"They had a spare android we could us to upload Angel's digital self into the real world. You are looking at our Angel spawning into existence."
"Wow."
Right at that moment, a green light come online in the chamber. Her body comes online and exits out of the tube. She looks around at everyone for a moment, seemingly unaware of where she is.
"Angel?" Oniv says, "is that you?"
"Fariah Angel, online. Accessing memory bank."
She shuts her eyes and stands still for a few seconds. Something spins online, and she opens them again. Her smile from end-to-end returns, as well as a moment of shock.
"Guys? Wait I though we...are we dead?"
"No," I said, "We are not dead."
"I...I don't detect out ship."
"It's not here." Oniv said, "Its currently being towed below us."
"Then, how am I here?"
She observes her hands and body unaware of what she processes. Surprising enough, she already seems very will tuned with the skeleton. I grab her hand and hold it up to her. Her eyes grow extremely wide, as if it's starting to click.
"I can feel your hands." she says.
"I can too."
"What is...this is weird."
She continues to feel through my fingers, observing their movements before Bern has enough and grabs both of our hands and pulls them apart.
"Alright wierdos. Thats enough. We need to get going."
Angel gasps in excitement.
"Where are we going?"
"Come with us and find out."
Excited, she grabs onto my arm and smiles at me.
"Shall we get going?" I ask
"Lead the way."
