Chapter 57: Volume 1 Chapter 57: The Tomb
The rain had stopped.
It was undoubtedly good news.
On the third day of entering the Hotlands, the operators from Rhine Lab had lost their initial enthusiasm and had become extremely silent.
The driver followed the instructions of Garde, who was sitting on the roof of the vehicle, avoiding dangerous areas and continuing to move forward.
Carnelian climbed onto the roof, braving the hot wind, and this time, she wisely sat behind Garde.
As long as Garde was in front to shield the wind, sitting behind him might be cooler than staying inside the vehicle.
"Why did you climb up?"
"Hmph, the roof isn't your exclusive VIP seat."
Carnelian scooted closer to Garde's back, feeling much cooler instantly.
However, his tail was in the way, which was a bit annoying.
"Garde, can you stop moving your tail?"
"Why?"
"I want to sit on it."
Carnelian noticed that Garde's tail was wide and large.
Although there were some protruding scales on the sides, if she was careful, she could sit in the middle.
"Are you a child?"
Garde couldn't understand Carnelian's actions at all.
Although his tail was large and thick, and some children in the tribe used to swing on it, Carnelian was not a child!
"Stop talking nonsense. I've helped you a lot. Let me rest on it for a while."
It's not like I asked for your help, Garde thought.
Besides, what difference does it make whether she sits on his tail or on him? His tail is part of his body, just like if you touched a Filin's tail on the street, she would turn around and slap you, calling you a pervert.
Not only did Carnelian sit on Garde's tail, but she also leaned her back against him.
"Ah~~~ So cool!"
Carnelian squatted on Garde's tail, letting it pass between her thighs, thick and long.
The tip of Garde's tail twitched restlessly, as if it had a mind of its own.
Compared to the surrounding temperature, sitting on Garde's tail felt like sticking to ice on a hot day, making Carnelian rub her bottom on it.
Her shorts rubbed against the tail, causing an itch, making Garde want to lift his tail.
In the end, he didn't move and changed the topic.
"Do you regret it?"
"Huh?"
"Following us into the Hotlands."
"Tsk, don't underestimate me. How could I regret it..."
Carnelian fell silent for a moment and clicked her tongue.
"Alright, maybe a little."
She wasn't scared, just felt that this trip was a loss.
She hadn't gained anything and had to suffer, with the risk of losing her life.
"If you survive, I can teach you Columbian. Not just Columbian, but also Leithanian, Ursan, and Yanese."
"Really?"
Carnelian perked up at Garde's words.
"But why the sudden change? You used to ignore me."
Carnelian looked at Garde suspiciously.
"Because I want to find something to do."
The death of a Rhine Lab operator had left Garde feeling regretful but not deeply affected.
He knew the dead operator's name was Willy, a young Liberi who wasn't married and had living parents.
Beyond that, he knew nothing about Willy's hobbies or if he liked anyone.
In short, Willy was a stranger.
If he went berserk with anger one day, he wouldn't hesitate to crush any Rhine Lab operators in his way.
But it might be different if it were someone he knew.
Hmm, Carnelian was now just someone he knew, not even a friend.
So, Garde decided to improve their relationship a bit to avoid accidentally killing her.
"I feel like you're thinking something rude."
Carnelian brushed her hair back, resting her head on Garde's back, and turned her face to the side.
"Hey, do you think we can really get out of here? Why did you come in here anyway? Was it for adventure or some incredible treasure?"
"You followed us without knowing anything?"
"You didn't tell me, and I can't understand what those Columbians are saying. How would I know?"
Garde was speechless at Carnelian's words.
He couldn't decide if she was just naïve or incredibly brave, taking such risks just to learn a new language.
"With you like this, I'd feel bad not teaching you Columbian when we get out."
"Glad you understand."
Carnelian crossed her arms and nodded proudly. It was worth risking her life to accompany the Crocodile man into the Hotlands, and now she finally had a reward.
"We've arrived."
Suddenly, Garde stood up, causing Carnelian to slide down his raised tail unexpectedly. His tail brushed between her legs.
"Eek!"
Carnelian couldn't help but cry out in surprise.
"What are you doing?!"
"Ah, sorry, I forgot you were sitting on my tail."
Seeing Carnelian sitting on the roof with her legs tightly closed, glaring at him in embarrassment.
Looking closely, Garde must admit, Carnelian was quite pretty.
Her figure and appearance could be rated highly, though she was a bit too thin and not as curvy as he'd prefer.
After a brief glance, he looked away, focusing on the distance.
Below, the Rhine Lab operators exited the vehicle.
After losing a comrade, they had finally reached their mission's relay station.
However, it wasn't what they had expected.
They had imagined seeing a path forged by the iron hooves of the Nightzmoran Army. Instead, they found no such road.
What lay before them was a tomb.
A tomb that had stood in this Hotland for centuries, a tomb of the Nightzmorans.
A thousand years ago, a Khagan from the plains had led his invincible Nightzmorans Army to conquer one country after another.
Eventually, this Khagan set his sights on the Hotlands south of Sargon.
The Nightzmorans Army charged into the Hotlands, never to be heard from again.
Now, a millennium later, fearless explorers had come to this place.
They saw a part of the Nightzmorans' tomb, densely packed like a cemetery, covering the land before their eyes.
