Chapter 59: Volume 1 Chapter 59: Facing the Empire of Consciousness
Garde clenched his large axe atop the sandcastle.
The Crocodile Man sensed something was wrong.
These machines, which should have been deeper in the Hotlands, were here.
Why were they appearing in the graveyard of Nightzmorans?
Boom!
Garde jumped from the roof, landing on the sand.
He wanted to wake up Saria.
Given the unexpected changes, the best approach was to avoid those mining robots for now.
Garde didn't know if destroying them would attract more enemies.
"Saria, we have trouble."
Garde's voice echoed through the sandcastle, the only sound aside from the even breathing around him.
Saria didn't wake up.
Neither did anyone else.
Garde saw Saria asleep in the back seat of the vehicle, leaning against the window, with the gray rabbit of the Cautus race beside her.
Neither Saria nor Chris heard Garde's voice.
They seemed to be lost in a sweet dream, unable to extricate themselves.
"Those fucking Nightzmoran."
The Crocodile Man's golden eyes narrowed slightly as he looked out from the sandcastle.
The Nightzmorans' graves were still distant, but their influence had already spread several kilometers.
Why?
Garde had thought he was cautious enough by not getting too close to the Nightzmorans' graves, but he hadn't expected that even at this distance, the people of Rhine Lab would be affected.
The operatives in the sandcastle wore sweet smiles, but the Nightzmorans' horror was slowly destroying everything at the most beautiful moment.
If lost in the nightmare, they would never wake up.
"Beep beep!"
The mechanical sound rang in Garde's ears.
At the edge of the sandcastle, a small mining robot crawled out of the sand, holding a bone. It was far from the cluster, so it had to return quickly.
However, before it could go far, it ran into a tail.
Garde squatted down and took the bone from the fallen robot.
It was a hand bone of a Nightzmoran Knight!
Smooth and crystalline, it didn't look like it had been buried for a thousand years.
The small mining robot, only knee-high to Garde, seemed confused about why it had fallen but quickly realized it was not alone.
A detection beam swept over, and Garde looked down at the robot, hearing a noisy voice after a long while.
"Beep beep, detected barbarian, phylum Chordata, class Reptilia, order Crocodylia, half-beastman, low evolutionary level, low intelligence, low threat... no capture value!"
This wasn't any language from Terra, but Garde understood it.
Do you think he learned all those languages through hard work?
Of course not!
He was a linguistic idiot in his past life and still was in this one.
He could naturally understand all sorts of languages as a God-Warrior.
As long as he heard it, he could parse and comprehend it.
The mining robot's words nearly made Garde want to smash it.
How dare it look down on his intelligence?
However, Garde refrained from acting rashly.
Attracting a swarm of enemies over a small robot wasn't worth it.
The small mining robot wandered around, running several hundred meters away.
When Garde shifted his attention to the Nightzmoran remains in his hand, the robot suddenly sped up. In a blink, it had run tens of meters.
"Beep beep, detected Experiment No. 3, species Adakrys, phylum Chordata, class Reptilia, order Crocodylia, enhanced synthetic sub-human, medium evolutionary level, unknown intelligence, unknown threat... recommended capture!"
"Beep beep, detected Experiment No. 7, species Anati... recommended capture!"
"..." "Beep beep, detected Experiment No. 29, species Vouivre... recommended capture!"
'Fuck!'
As soon as the small robot's voice sounded, Garde knew things had gone terribly wrong.
The ancient civilizations in the Hotlands were not singular.
Although Garde had encountered a lost robotic civilization before, those robots had rigid programming and generally ignored ordinary carbon-based life forms.
However, the intelligence level of these robots before him was on a completely different level from those he had met before.
The damned small mining robot had deceived him!
Bang!
Garde had no choice but to ensure these robots remained here.
If even one escaped, it would become their nightmare.
Yet, all the Rhine Lab operatives were trapped in nightmares and couldn't cooperate with him.
If he left, he wouldn't be able to protect them either.
There was no other way.
Garde held the Nightzmoran bone in his hand.
He bit down hard!
Cracks spread across the crystalline bone instantly.
Crack!
The sound of the bone breaking seemed to throw the entire magnetic field of the Nightzmorans into chaos.
It was like being abruptly awakened from a long dream.
The Nightzmorans' dreams connected to form an entire world, and when one Nightzmoran's dream disappeared, all the Nightzmorans would turn their attention.
At this moment, Garde was not just facing a single Nightzmoran but the fictional world of Nightzmorans built over millennia.
The Empire of Consciousness of the Nightzmorans!
Garde lost consciousness while running, standing motionless.
However, when a large mining robot approached him, the Crocodile Man opened his blood-red eyes.
Driven purely by instinct, he swung his weapon.
In the Hotlands, the butcher who had lost consciousness roared with primal fury.
Roar!
