The Corrupted Syndicate

Chapter 3: Overgrown Tank... The Viceroy?

Matt blinked a few times, allowing his emerald orbs to adjust to the darkness. He recoiled back, realizing that the perpetrator was heavily armored and masked which proved that he might be part devil.

The scythe the enemy wielded held a rather large bony blade with a human spine as its foundation. The body of the scythe was similar to Mavislin's, leading Mattheos to believe that they might share the same weaponsmith.

"I'm not called Shadow for nothing, you overgrown tank!" hollered Mavislin as she slammed her left foot forward and raised her blade to throw her opponent off balance.

With a swift contort of her body, the dragon girl delivered a powerful kick to her enemy's abdomen, sending him flying back into a large oak tree. Instead of striking back, the overgrown tank merely stood up with his scythe and laughed.

"Sorry… It has been such a long time since I've been slammed into a tree… Especially since I've only recently wiped the floor with that pretty bunny boy behind you," said the enemy as he regained his battle stance.

"Huh? Matt?" quizzed Mavislin, turning to Mattheos with a questioning gaze.

"Oh? He didn't tell you?"

"Wait, wait! I'm lost… Who are you and how do you know Matt?" asked Mavislin, trying to make sense of things.

"You have no clue what the Viceroy of Valokia looks like? Despite all those reports you had?" shot Matt, even more shocked than Mavislin.

"The ones who came close to describing him were all killed, buffoon. Well, all except for you… I mean, you could've told me! That he was an oversized tank that could potentially deforest the whole of Agalia!"

"No wonder the puny people of Nuas didn't stand a chance!" exclaimed Mavislin, pointing at her opponent.

"How was I supposed to know you haven't fought or seen him before?! Maybe you forgot?"

The Viceroy seemed slightly offended as he tilted his head to the side.

"There far too many idiots on this world that I can't recall but I would be damned sure that I would've seen a tank like him in my life! Just look at him!"

The dragon girl sighed as she drew up her weapon and pointed it at the Viceroy.

"Oh? I was about to take my leave since you both were busy with your own bickering…" asked the enemy, placing his scythe blade down to the ground.

"Hmph, get used to it!" yelled Mavislin as she launched from her spot, filled with excitement and power as she slammed her scythe into the Viceroy's chest plate.

The ring of the clash reverberated throughout the night, causing the many wildlife to flee from the scene of battle. Much to the duo's horror, Mavislin's attack barely made a dent on the armor plate, earning a chuckle from the Viceroy.

"I should praise you for striking me with such fury but alas, you are far too weak," said the enemy as he grabbed the scythe.

"Mav! Get out!" yelled Mattheos as he ran towards the opponent.
