The Courier (MHA)

Chapter 28: WTF?

"Fair enough," I said but I wanted to strangle the guy, these heroes and the HPSC members were all people with quirks that were considered A-class crowd-control quirks. Any one of them could have lent a hand in the fight and Yagi wouldn't have ended up like this. "Why are you here now then?"

"We're here to take care of the Villain on the ground, nothing more, nothing less." A member of the HPSC stated.

"I have orders to kill this one," I stated as the HPSC members surrounded AFO.

"Here," Hawks said as he pulled an envelope from his coat.

"Shit," I cursed under my breath as I read the message in the envelope.

"What is it?" Yagi asked as he came up to my side limping.

"Read it for yourself," I told him as I passed over the message. "TLDR, basically I'm a mercenary now with the right to bear firearms instead of a quirk."

"What?!" Yagi shouted as he grabbed the letter and read it for himself. "They can't do this without a court-ordered investigation..."

.

I tuned out what Yagi was saying about legal issues. I glared at the surrounding Heroes and HPSC members as Hawks stood by and watched me in case I did something drastic. I knew that they would do something like this, but being only a few months in was unexpected. I figured they would at least give me a year at the most, six months at the least. I watched as they cuffed AFO with Quirk-disabling cuffs and started to load him into the Helicopter. Hawks looked at me with an unreadable expression as I watched them lift off.

I had half a mind to shoot them out of the sky with a mini-nuke. But the consequences of my actions would be dire for both me and the rest of the world. I sighed as I grabbed Yagi and Dr. Disaster and started to walk away. By the time we left the crater, the three of us found Aizawa, Recovery Girl, Present Mic, and others waiting for us. I let Yagi go and made my way, with Dr. Disaster on my six, past them. They didn't try to stop me nor did they try talking to me, I had bigger things to worry about.

After a while of walking, I had Dr. Disaster open a portal to where my Office was. If I was getting shut down, there was no way I was letting the few things I had there go to waste. Once the portal was open and we walked through, we found that there was a police caution tape roping the area off.

As I approached an officer to ask why the area was cautioned off, I witnessed Endeavor walk out of the building. I quickly grabbed Disaster and pulled him off into an alleyway. As he asked what was wrong, I shushed him to overhear what Endeavor was saying.

.

"Remember, if you see the Courier, proceed with extreme caution," He ordered the surrounding officers. "After his dismissal, he'll try to try to regroup with his family of freaks."

.

After he said that, I knew something was up. He seemed too smug about all this. Something didn't seem right with all this as I watched Endeavor get into a car and drive away. Once he was gone, I turned to Disaster and told him to portal to UA and find Nezu. After the portal disappeared with Disaster, I popped a [Stealth-boy] and began to sneak into my office.

Inside I found several Sidekicks and officers searching the offices for anything of value. The more I looked, the more it seemed that they were looking for something particular. It was as if they were looking for a hidden stash or something. Shame, I should have made something like that to troll them, but I keep everything I own in my [Pip-boy].

Soon, I got all that I needed from inside, mainly some information. But as I was about to leave, I spotted that one of the sidekicks was cuffed inside one of the cubicles. Not to mention, she was gagged as well. I knew something was up when I realized who the sidekick was. It was Endeavor's second-in-command, Burnin.

Things weren't adding up. The more and more I thought about it, the more things seemed too good to be true. I pulled out a recorder and started to videotape everything happening inside. From conversations they were having to them rummaging through files. Finally, as I was about to leave, one of the sidekicks walked up to Burnin. I recorded it all as I watched them smack and beat on Burnin as she was powerless.

.

"Not so tuff now, are ya whore?" The sidekick asked as he kicked her. "Still can't believe a dumb broad like you became a sidekick. Should have just learned your lesson and stayed in the fuckin kitchen."

.

As he spoke more and more profanities, I could tell that this bastard wasn't a sidekick for long. I've done my research well enough to know that Burnin was a well-respected Sidekick. So whoever this was, was just a bastard in a costume. Everyone else seemed to be unconcerned about Burnin's plight. It was as if the bastard was invisible to them or they were outright ignoring the two of them. Something wasn't adding up.

Seeing that the bastard had his fun tormenting Burnin, he went to walk off. I've dealt with Sexist bastards before but this one took the cake. But as I watched the recording, I noticed that when I looked at him from the camera, he showed up. But looking at him normally, he wasn't there.

That's when I realized his quirk, Perception Blocking. it was then I realized he was a villain acting like a hero. So, I did what any sane person would do at a time like this, I put a knife into his temple. Simple, but effective. Burnin saw the man fall down with a knife in his head and started to struggle at her binds. Seeing as all the sidekicks and officers shake their heads and then see the corpse and a bound Burnin, they all rushed toward her. I, being smart, hid by the stairwell and waited to see the outcome.

Once Burnin was unbound, she ripped off the gag and started shouting orders. What surprised me most was that all her orders were to start securing the crime scene and not to touch anything even though she most likely had internal damage. From there, she ordered someone to contact the HPSC.

From there, I left before my [Stealth-boy] ran out. When it did, I was already a block away from the office. I considered the few things I had there, lost. Little did I know that Burnin's opinion of me jumped up quite a few notches. How she knew it was me, I would never understand.

.

{A while later}

.

"Just great..." I grumbled as I sneaked my way through the back alleys.

.

As I walked the streets, people were videotaping, talking, or gawking. I couldn't go anywhere without some sort of attention. I pulled out my smartphone, given to me by Nezu, and started searching for what made me so noticeable. It didn't take long for me to find out why though. It seems that my confrontation with AFO and the HPSC was on the news. So everyone now knew what I looked like in my armor. That left only one option, time for a different outfit. Making sure that the alleyway was clear, I unequipped my [Eilte Roit armor] and helmet before pulling out some jeans, shoes, a black jacket, and a [baseball cap].

Thankfully my face is still hidden from the media so I don't have to cover my face with a mask or something, a hat and a coat will do. But I had to forgo my sidearm and stick with a [Switchblade] to keep myself armed. While with the jacket I could easily hide a firearm, my [Sixth-Sense] told me not to.

As I walked out of the alleyway and back into the streets, blending into the crowds, a swarm of sidekicks rushed into the alley. I sighed and continued to walk towards UA, using my phone to blend in better. As soon as I did, I could overhear shouting that a villain was sighted near here had everyone on edge. I just kept walking, thanking my sneak skill for counting this as sneaking.

It was all well and good as I made my way to UA, but even good things come to an end. As I reached UA's gate, I saw that the walls had extended up a good thirty feet. As I got close to the walls, several scanners popped out and began to scan me. Most likely scanning my biometrics. As soon as I got to the gate, I pulled my ID card and swiped it. A few seconds later, the gate opened and I walked through.

As the gate closed behind me, I headed towards Nezu's office. Getting into the school, I was met with several teachers running around the school. A few stopped and glanced at me before heading off to do whatever they were doing before. It didn't take me long afterward to get to Nezu's office, inside I found him going over a tablet with two others next to him.

.

"It's good to see you Six, though I wish it was under better circumstances," Nezu greeted me but didn't look up at me.

"So I don't need to explain what happened do I?" I asked as I took a seat in front of him.

"No, you do not," He answered as he set the tablet down and grabbed another one. "How much were you expecting this to happen?"

"Pretty much within the first six months if not the first year, but not this soon," I explained as he passed me a tablet. "I had planned for this eventuality, but it was sooner than expected. My office was even raided by Endeavor, however, I don't believe for a minute that man was Endeavor."

"You would be correct," Nezu spoke up. "Endeavor was injured during the battle that occurred after you and AllMight were transported. Same with Edgeshot and several police officers when three Nomu appeared. The Officers followed your ways and shot to kill the Nomus while the Heroes did their best to subdue them. Best Jeanist tried to get them to stop but was arrested in accordance with the Law stating when Police can overrule the Heroes say."

"Then he shouldn't have been there," I said as I looked over the tablet that I was given. "Oh, so this is why that cut me loose?" I asked.

"It appears so," Nezu said as he finally looked up from his tablet. "How do you want to handle this?"

"Am I still employed by UA?" I asked.

"Yes, I rather not lose a valuable prospect such as you," Nezu answered with what I thought he'd say.

"Then we'll make an announcement." I planned out.

"What would we say?" Nezu asked as he thought about it.

"Simple," I told him, "the truth. That's what we'll tell them."

"The HPSC won't be quiet about this. They'll try to pin the blame on you," Nezu said.

"That's fine," I answered, showing a slight grin. "I've played this game far more than they think. It's simple to manipulate things here and there so that they'll shoot themselves in the foot."

"I shudder to think of what's going through your mind at this time," Nezu shuttered, even though he didn't know what I was truly capable of.

"But there's gonna be a problem," I told him, "We're gonna need viewers, and a lot of them."

"I can think of a few ways to get our announcement out but it's gonna take some time."
