Chapter 48: Concert (3)
"What am I to be?
What is my calling?
I gave up giving up, I'm ready to go
The future's left unseen
It all depends on me
Put it on the line to follow my dream
Yeah
Tried all my life, I've tried to find
Something that makes me hold on and never let go
Oh
Hero too, I am a hero too
My heart is set (my heart is set) and I won't back down
Hero too, strength doesn't make a hero
True heroes (true heroes) stand up for what they believe
So wait and see
So wait and see
What do they think of me?
Who do they think I'll be?
I could not care less, I don't wanna know
Am I doing right?
Am I satisfied?
I wanna live my life like it's meant to be
Yeah
Tried all my life, I've tried to find
Something that makes me hold on and never let go
Oh
Hero too, I am a hero too
My heart is set (my heart is set) and I won't back down
Hero too, strength doesn't make a hero
True heroes (true heroes) stand up for what they believe
So wait and see
People will judge for no reason at all
Yeah they might try
To say your dream's dumb, don't listen
They may look down on me and count me out
I'm going my own way
They may look down on me and count me out
I'm a hero, I've got music
Hero too, I am a hero too
My heart is set and I won't back down
Hero too, strength doesn't make a hero
True heroes stand up for what they believe
Yeah I'll be
Hero too, I am a hero too
My heart is set and I won't back down
Hero too, strength doesn't make a hero
True heroes stand up for what they believe
So wait and see
I have met so many heroes in my life
Gave me the strength and courage to survive
Gave me the power to smile every day
Now it's my turn to be the one to make you smile!"
.
Six was surprised at how well-received Class 1-A's song was. He figured it would be a somewhat catchy song and dance. But he wasn't expecting that it would be a major hit. Once their song was done, Six helped them return to the stage before they bowed and the curtains closed. Six nodded his head at the students as they all walked backstage.
Then he sighed as he took Willow's guitar and calmly walked to center stage. Six could hear the crowd begin to quiet themselves as the curtains began to pull back once again. They then went silent when a spotlight was shown on Six.
.
"It broke my heart to lose you,
But you didn't go alone,
Part of me went with you,
the day God called,
you home.
I-"
.
As Six sang, someone snuck a muffin in and chucked it at his head. Six saw it coming and side-stepped it. He looked down at the offending muffin and then at the person who threw it. He nodded his head.
.
"Okay, you don't want a forlorn love song," Six sighed before getting booed and shouted at by the crowd. "I get it, you guys don't like me. Just let me sing, please."
"Go to hell!"
"GET LOST!"
"Why are you still here?!"
"GO DIE!"
.
Six sighed and then began to play a tune that anyone from the Mijave would know by heart.
.
"Broken bone and liar's lead
Caught off guard and left for dead
Luck keeps turning as the light begins to dull
And by healing hands I'm saved
Pulled from my shallow grave
I can feel reprisal aching through my skull
Set my sights on shining spires
Set out on the highways tired
On the desert sands and ruined roads I roam
And this old lonesome road
Shall bring me what I'm owed
These new empires on old stones shall be my home
Under the Mojave sky
I find a flag to fly
To tip the odds and rig the game
Deal another hand and play
Every card a shift of circumstance
Let every bettor stake their claim
Deal another hand and play
Stack the deck, I'm letting nothing fall to chance
Atop the glistening tower
Watching the struggles for power
The house sees every deal
Within this town
Behind the gangs and the walls
Keeping a close eye on all
Old secrets buried in the underground
To tip the odds and rig the game
Deal another hand and play
Every card a shift of circumstance
Let every bettor stake their claim
Deal another hand and play
Stack the deck, I'm letting nothing fall to chance
Lumbering across the west
Ruined treasures repossessed
Resurrect the old soul of America
Laws and labour, structures tight
Memories of faded might
Resurrect the old soul of America
And oh
The bear is roving across the west
Shadows loom
All go soon to war
From the chaos comes form and order
From the many comes the one
Out of the east prowl upon the borders
Come to crush and overrun
Brutal the bull, gouge out the weak
Tongue of tyrant at the core
Force of ancients, strike down the meek
Raise the flags, the banners of war
The banners of war
So tip the odds and rig the game
Deal another hand and play
Every card a shift of circumstance
Let every bettor stake their claim
Deal another hand and play
Stack the deck, I'm letting nothing fall to chance
Scattered strays who've lost their meaning
Brotherhoods who hide and horde
Followers of help and healing
The addicted lost and scorned
The secluded rumbling thunder
And the spite of prison bars
And the vengeful eyes of wells run dry
That watch me from afar
Someday the change will come and wash the doubt away
The heart of the desert will beat harder on this day"
.
As Six sang, the crowd seemed to be in a daze. They went from booing and yelling at him to go die, to being in a trance. It seemed like his voice was hypnotizing them with each word he sang.
.
|With Nezu|
.
Nezu was speechless as he watched the one known as Courier Six or Dylan Jones. At first, he was just gonna hire him to help train the students before sending him out to 'take care of' some rather heinous villains. But, after his unexpected circumstances, he had become worth their weight. Numerous times he had come into his own and saved the students he'd come to know and understand. Love even, though that was to an extent.
Then there was the fact that he was the long-lost father of two of the students. Then there is the fact that he was a Quirk Researcher when he was here. Add on to the fact that he's also from another world with tech unlike any other Nezu has seen even on I-island.
.
"I wonder," Nezu mused just as Six started to sing, "Just how is it that he came here in the first place? His story had its sad end, but here he just disappeared off the face of the earth. Ooo, how wonderful! I always love a good mystery! Don't you, my fellow readers?"

.
Six sighed as he left the stage, having just finished his impromptu song. The one he had in mind was a sad, forlorn, love song. But when he was interrupted by the muffin guy's, well, Muffin; Six thought it would be best if he sang a song that he wrote shortly after the second battle of Hoover Dam. Hell, he even managed to get aired on the radio and countless people heard it.
But after Willow died, he'd sang less and less until he finally stopped. But he still heard it up until he died. Almost like a battle hymn or the last words carried on the wind.
Six sighed again as he left the assembly hall, his mind wandering back to the Mojave.
.
"Six?" A voice called out to him.
"What is it, Veronica?" Six asked without turning around.
"You were amazing out there," She stated, "You still got it. But, why that song? Now people will be singing it for years to come. Even if they don't know the horrors of the Wastes."
"True," Six sighed, again, "But at least they'll get some sort of idea before of who we are."
"Let's hope, but you know how they are," Veronica sighed.
"People are idiots," Six agreed.
