Chapter 40
She got goosebumps all over her body. No, the word goosebumps wasn’t enough for this. Magorit couldn’t even close her mouth, puffing like a carp. Unlike when she ranted about seeing a ghost or a wraith, she couldn’t even raise a voice due to the overwhelming feeling of fear. And it was the same for Chelsea.
“T-that’s…!”
Her finger pointed to Lobelia outside the window. The heavy rain was streaming down her face. Moreover, the lightning and thunder struck alternately, making the atmosphere even more gloomy.
Feeling fear as if the hairs on their entire bodies were standing on the end, they slowly took a step back. At that moment, the window crashed with a loud noise.
“Kyaaak!” A loud scream was scattered across the ceiling.
Normally, servants would have rushed in, but no one could hear Magorit and Chelsea’s voices due to the rain and thunder.
While they were trembling, Lobelia slowly entered the room through the broken glass.
“G-get away from me…!”
Her teeth chattered. She couldn’t even tell if it was a ghost, spirit, or that woman had survived from the river.
The sound of heavy rain mixed with darkness gave her a strange feeling as if she had fallen into an abyss. There was no way she could think rationally in this state. And it was even more so because of the pain in her neck that came from time to time.
Even though her whole body trembled, Magorit picked up the candlestick on her nightstand like a weapon. “A-a ghost, or you survived in that river! Are you trying to get revenge on me? Is it right?” She shouted in fear, but not wanting to lose.
Looking at Magorit like that, I lifted my eyebrows leisurely.
This is not even funny.
What a helpless counterattack. The corners of my mouth involuntarily turned upward.
Five years ago, I was scared when I faced Magorit and Kriella. Because I, a commoner with no power, would never be able to defeat them. I also blamed and hated Endimion for deceiving me. Still, on the other hand, I worried about what would happen after breaking up with him. But I don’t feel like that anymore now.
Was this what the gods felt when they looked at humans?
Now I could control the weather and do magic. I could have snapped that thin neck at any time without getting a drop of blood on my hands.
Sorry, but I can’t do that to you right now.
The reason for me not doing so right now was extremely simple.
You should be in more pain.
In the pitch-black darkness, my eyes sparkled like a luminous stone.
You should be more scared.
Just like how Merilly and I felt.
You should be hurt more.
I had been trampled in pain that made my teeth tremble.
Wouldn’t that make the calculations right? They had to be trampled and crushed repeatedly so they could never touch me again. Only then would this fiery anger that had been sitting uncomfortably in my heart finally disappear.
I slowly turned toward them with a blank expression on my face. Magorit shook her shoulders and adjusted the candlestick.
“I told you to go away…”
“You…” At last, my lips slowly opened. “Who are you?”
“…What?”
Magorit’s brows furrowed slightly. Her head rolled up to figure out the situation. Then, after rolling her eyes for a while, she looked at Lobelia again. Judging by the fact it wasn’t just her who could see Lobelia, it was definitely not a ghost or spirit. Then, there was only one answer. Lobelia was lucky to survive on that river. Then how on earth did she crawl into this mansion?
“No way…”
For a moment, Magorit’s eyes widened.
“Kyaaaaaak!”
But before she could utter anything, Lobelia grabbed her own hair and began to scream.
“That crazy bitch…!”
An ear-splitting scream broke through the rain. On top of that, Lobelia began crying and calling for Endimion. “Endrew, Endrew!”
“Shut that bitch’s mouth!” Magorit shouted at Chelsea.
In such a bizarre atmosphere, Chelsea faltered and soon approached Lobelia cautiously. When her hand was about to reach Lobelia.
“What’s going on!”
As if that voice had somehow reached him, Endimion opened the door and entered the room.
“
Gasp…
!”
Surprised eyes turned to Lobelia, who was crying, and Magorit, who was shaking.
“
Huhu, huhu
…”
Lobelia lowered her head and cried, then hugged him as if she had regained her memories. “Endrew…!”
Like five years ago, when they lived happily and harmoniously, Lobelia called him ‘Endrew.’
“Lia, you… Did your memories come back? Huh?” Endimion asked with surprised eyes as he held her tightly in his arms.
“I’m scared. I’m scared, Endrew…”
“What are you afraid of? It’s alright. It’s alright, Lia.”
He gently swept Lobelia’s back as if she were a child.
“How did you get here? Huh?”
It was embarrassing, but he couldn’t question her while she was crying like this.
Endimion smiled slightly and wiped away the remaining tears from Lobelia’s cheeks.
“When I opened my eyes, I was already in this place… What happened, Endrew…? I… And that woman…!”
“That woman. Now we live in the same house, you shouldn’t refer to her like that.”
It was inevitable that this would happen. They were destined to live together soon anyway, so it might have been a good thing.
“Mari, rejoice. I found Lia.”
“…What? Rejoice…?”
It was so absurd that she couldn’t help but laugh. It felt like she was having a nightmare. The woman she killed came back alive and well, crying in Endimion’s arms. And this guy, her husband, started talking nonsense, saying he had found his mistress and asking her to rejoice.
“Re, joice…?”
Without realizing it, her teeth were chattering.
Right, actually, she wasn’t proud of doing it either. In a moment of rage, she pushed a person into the river and has been tormenting her child ever since. And deep down, she knew it too. It wasn’t Lobelia who made the worst mistake, it was Endimion. If she had to kill just one person, that person should be him, not her.
“You’re a good person. Of course, you will understand my feelings, right?”
Magorit’s eyes were filled with tears at his nonsense. She gulped down her dry saliva, unable to even answer back.
“From now on, the three of us, no, the daughters and wives, will live together in harmony.”
“Harmony! What are you talking about now…!”
Magorit quickly opened her mouth. If she kept her mouth shut like this, she might really have to live in the same house with that woman.
If society found out that her husband had a concubine, she would become a subject of ridicule, not to mention the honor of the Hamilton family.
“Mari and Lia. You guys can get along like sisters. That sounds like a lot of fun.”
Endimion smiled innocently. Next to her, Lobelia tried to hold back her laughter.
“Endi!”
“Actually, I didn’t believe what you and mother said. There’s no way Lia would run away and leave me behind.”
“I… ran away…?”
At this point, it was time for Lobelia to step forward. She gently parted her lips.
Magorit shuddered at her fierce look. When Lobelia first saw her, she asked her who she was. But now, she was looking at her directly again.
Is her mind going back and forth? No, that didn’t matter now. Didn’t I kill that woman by drowning her in the river?
She wouldn’t be a murderer because Lobelia wasn’t dead, but she didn’t know what Endimion would say if he knew.
“T-that’s… Endi.”
“What do you mean I ran away? I didn’t run away, Endrew!”
“Does your memory have completely returned? Then why did you leave me…?”
“That’s…”
As she had blurred the end of her words, Lobelia’s eyes slowly landed on Magorit. The moment their eyes met, she slowly raised one corner of her mouth.
“I don’t think my memory has fully returned yet.”
Unlike her crying appearance, she looked completely fine.
“I feel like I remember… it’s not the case.”
“Don’t overdo it. I’m glad that your memories have come back to this extent.” He was completely deceived by Lobelia and just nodded.
Lobelia swept Endimion’s shoulders down strangely and headed slowly to Magorit. “Mari.”
“How dare you call me like—!”
“Do you want my memory to come back or not?”
Lobelia looked at Magorit and smiled. Then, she leisurely finished her sentence.
“What…?”
“I feel like ‘someone’ would hope that I remain amnesia. That’s what I think.”
It sounded as if she could expose the truth at any time… Like a warning.
