Chapter 68
“Is that okay, Marchioness Hamilton?” Bella slyly raised her eyebrows with a smirk.
“…There’s no such a thing as commoner and noble to be equal, Princess Gracie.”
Seeing that neither of them changed their expressions, they seemed to have been planned this way from the beginning. Magorit pressed her lips hard and soon came to her senses. In order not to be fooled by these two snarky women, she had to get herself together from now on.
“But we cannot intentionally leave out the person who is no different from the ‘hostess’ of this house. How do you feel, Lady Lobelia? Would you like to join us?”
Leaving the puzzled ladies behind, Lobelia took the lead as if she was really the hostess of Hamilton. Magorit followed with a pale face.
The young ladies began to whisper at Bella.
“Are we really going to be at the same table with a commoner?”
“Oh my, don’t you all have refreshments with your maids?”
“
Umm,
but that’s…”
“And you were all raised by commoners, right? I mean your nanny. Could it be that you forbade your nanny from even touching your body because she was a commoner?”
“That can’t be!”
The young ladies immediately protested.
She deliberately gathered only those ladies who were famous among the Shinsu faction for being kind and good-natured. At least among them, no one looked down on commoners more than Magorit.
“Then I don’t know what the problem is. I guess there are still people who think that commoners and nobles are completely different races.”
Bella deliberately raised her voice to be heard. Even though it sounded obvious, Magorit smiled as if she hadn’t heard anything. Then Magorit quickly walked over to Lobelia and gently pulled on the sleeve of her dress.
“What are you scheming?”
She clenched her teeth and whispered in a voice so small as not to be heard by the young ladies behind her.
“No matter how commoner you are, don’t you know any shame?”
“Why should I be in shame?”
“…Why are you talking informally?”
“You spoke informally to me first, Mari.”
“If you call me Mari one more time…”
Magorit threatened as if she couldn’t stand it. However, Lobelia lightly ignored her words and stopped tall in the middle of the garden.
“What are you going to do?” Then she slowly put her lips closer to Magorit’s ear. “Are you going to use poison?”
Her voice was so small that Magorit almost felt like it was the sound of breathing, but her heart sank.
“…What?”
It was definitely a thorny statement. Magorit’s eyes fluttered as she recalled Jack.
“I didn’t want to do this either.” Lobelia laughed. “At least if you didn’t touch Merilly, I wouldn’t go this far even if you killed me.”
“…You remember…?”
Her pale lips trembled. Looking at Magorit’s stupid expression as if she were admiring a famous painting, Lobelia said sarcastically with a mocking expression on her face. “Why are you saying ‘You remember’?”
Suppressing her laughter, Lobelia continued to attack her. “This commoner, commoner, you say such stupid words. There is a degree of being stupid. Or have you lost your mind?”
In the end,
“Lobelia!”
Magorit, unable to hold back her anger any longer, screamed and slapped her.
Lobelia gave a small groan and fell to the ground exaggeratedly. Her body was thrown around on the neatly trimmed lawn.
The eyes of the ladies following behind had suddenly become round like rabbits. Although they were frozen in the cold atmosphere, their eyes sparkled as if they found this situation very interesting.
“What on earth did I wrong, Mari?”
“Get out now. Right now…!”
Magorit’s eyes widened, and she even uttered a curse. She didn’t want to be with bitch even for a moment. It felt like she was going to die from frustration if she didn’t shout.
As she choked up, she swallowed her dry saliva and opened her mouth again bitterly. “How dare you, a commoner, in front of the ladies…!”
“Oh my, stop it, Marchioness Hamilton. What kind of atrocity are you doing in front of us right now?”
Even though Bella already knew this would happen, she pretended like she didn’t know anything and stepped forward.
“No matter what, how can you slap someone’s cheek…” Then, as she was trying to get Lobelia up, she continued her words.
“Don’t interfere, Princess Gracie!” Magorit lost her senses and gave a sharp answer without realizing it.
No matter what, Magorit should never treat her carelessly,
“…You invited guests and then treated them like this?”
Because she’s Princess Gracie.
“This is no different from an act of insulting our family, including Gracie’s family.” Bella’s stern expression was filled with a chill that was colder than winter.
“P-Princess Gracie.”
Embarrassed, she stuttered her words. However, Bella completely ignored Magorit and headed towards Lobelia.
“Are you okay?”
“
Hiks, hiks…
” She burst into tears as if she was full of sorrow. “It’s all my fault. I should have been stuck in my room when there were guests…”
The young ladies looked at Lobelia with pity. Just because you are a commoner doesn’t mean you would be humiliated in front of so many people.
“No, Lady Lobelia. Regardless of status, anyone deserves to roam freely.”
“Yes, that’s right. I can’t believe she’s getting angry all of a sudden. I have no idea who’s the noble who learned manners.”
“That’s what I’m saying.”
As Bella took her side, the noble ladies all added words.
“
Ha…
! It seems everyone has forgotten.” Magorit spat out her words, glaring at the other ladies. Except for Princess Gracie, there was no lady of a better family than her here.
“That woman is a concubine.”
The eyes of the young ladies who were taking Bella’s side shook at that.
“She’s a concubine who seduced a married man.”
Magorit, excited by their reaction, spoke even more. “Of course, I apologize for my words and actions. But how can I be kind to such an immoral woman?” She played a more mournful look and squeezed out tears that didn’t come out.
The atmosphere changed in an instant. At some point, the eyes of the young ladies, who had been watching Bella and taking Lobelia’s side, suddenly turned hostile. It was natural.
Who would defend a concubine who seduced a man who already had a wife? No matter how harshly they suffered from the wife, they would think that the concubine deserved it. That’s to be said if Lobelia was really a concubine.
Lobelia twitched one eyebrow slightly and then slowly opened her mouth. “How could you say that to me? An immoral woman…? Me?”
A mournful voice rang through the empty garden. Bella waited leisurely, and the noble ladies blinked rapidly, wondering what she meant.
“I kept your secret, Mari…”
“What secret?”
“It wasn’t you who got married first…” The tearful words were soon thrown away sharply. “I did it first.”
All the tears that moistened the emerald eyes disappeared in an instant. Lobelia continued her words with a completely different attitude. “In terms of order… Aren’t you the concubine?”
“
Ha…
!” Because of the absurdity, a laugh came out of Magorit’s lips.
On a commoner subject, how dare she call her concubine when she’s the daughter of Count Deiji and now the Marchioness Hamilton? It was a completely ridiculous situation.
Even though the Gracie family didn’t have a very good relationship with the Hamilton family, the princess at least had to take her side in this situation. Magorit’s eyes turned to Bella, asking for her help as if she wanted her to be on her side. But of course, she didn’t move as Magorit expected.
“What do you mean, Lady Lobelia? Who gets married first?”
Bella picked up the topic that Magorit was most reluctant to discuss. To that question, Lobelia answered nonchalantly, wiping away her tearful eyes.
“Ah, Marquis Hamilton actually married me first.”
Bella’s eyes looked at her, wondering if that could be possible.
“How could that happen…? Does that mean Lady Lobelia is actually the real hostess?”
“How can that be? Is there a misunderstanding?”
The curious young ladies asked one after another.
Magorit didn’t know what else that crazy woman would say. So she opened her mouth quickly. “…Everyone, that woman is crazy. You—”
“Merilly de Hamilton.” However, Lobelia started straight at Magorit and added her words clearly. “Merilly, the eldest daughter of this family…”
“Lobelia!”
“Is my daughter.”
The mouths of those present opened in shock. As if a rock had fallen on their heads, everyone was getting goosebumps with a great shock.
