The Curse of Time (Harry Potter Fanfic)

Chapter 4: Discussion with Dumbeldore

Time passed, and Evelyn continued to read books of all kinds, from the history of the Muggle and magical worlds to recipe books.

But what fascinated her most was magic, something every sorcerer knows but whose secrets are still largely unknown. Even though she was born into a wizarding family, she still found magic captivating. She wanted to study more on this subject, but she was still in the hospital for observation, though she would soon be able to leave.

One day, which seemed quite ordinary for Evelyn, an old man with a long beard came to visit her.

"Hello, Mr. Dumbledore, it's a pleasure to meet someone as famous as you in such a place."

"Good morning, Miss Longbottom."

"You can call me Evelyn."

"Well, Miss Evelyn, I've heard of your desire to know more than you already do."

"Some of my parallel thoughts are very young and have a curiosity like any child, and I think that's why I have this strong desire to learn more."

"May I ask, would you like to no longer have this condition?"

"It would be a lie if I didn't say yes because, without this incident, my parents wouldn't be in the state they are now. But there are some advantages. For example, I can take more time to do my research and satisfy my thirst for knowledge. Additionally, there is an ability that is quite useful despite its drawbacks. If I have a wound, like losing an arm, I can revert my body to a previous state, erasing the wound, but it has the side effect of creating a new parallel thought."

Dumbledore reflected on what Evelyn had just said because a situation like this had never occurred before, and there was so much to discover.

"It's very strange. I thought you could go back in time."

"I know that time is dangerous, so I don't want to tamper with it or try. What's done in the past belongs to the past."

Dumbledore agreed with Evelyn and offered to play a game of chess while continuing their conversation.

"I have a proposition for you. Your condition has sometimes aged you to the point of making you appear like an adult, which has had the effect of removing your trace. So, I have an offer. Would you like to join Hogwarts sooner than originally planned?"

Evelyn closed her eyes and thought carefully.

"I prefer to join Hogwarts at the age that was originally planned, so I can keep an eye on my brother Neville."

"It's wonderful that you're so concerned about your brother, but you could still watch over him as a teacher after you graduate."

Dumbledore knew that she was intelligent enough to have already graduated if one only considered the theory.

"I already appreciate the future offer of employment, but I do not see myself as a teacher at the moment because I have so much to discover, such as the origin of magic. So, during this time before going to Hogwarts, I will conduct research, and after my education, if I have made significant progress and am moving slower, I might consider accepting the position."

Seeing that he could not change Evelyn's mind, Dumbledore gave up.

"I won't push further, but I must warn you to be cautious with dark magic because you will undoubtedly need to study it."

"I appreciate the advice, but I will not succumb to temptation."

"Many people have said that, and yet they have become dark lords."

"They were power-hungry idiots. I'm just going to explore the theory anyway. I don't have the talent to become a great sorcerer known for their magic. I could become, at best, a slightly stronger magician than the average because of my knowledge. Checkmate."

Dumbledore lost a bit of concentration in the game but was forced to acknowledge Evelyn's intelligence.

"You're really ruthless to beat an old man like that at chess. With that, I wish you luck and hope you will be well."

"Thank you. Have a good day."
