The Curse of Time (Harry Potter Fanfic)

Room of Requirement

I headed to the seventh floor of Hogwarts, in a corridor near a tapestry depicting Barnabas the Barmy trying to teach ballet to trolls, but the problem was that I couldn’t find the Room of Requirement.

I walked past it once with a sharp look. Then another time, tapping the wall in case there was a brick to press. Finally, a third time, kicking around, hoping for a miracle.

It was then that the door materialized, and upon entering, I saw a huge library, perhaps even bigger than the official one.

Looking around, I noticed a piece of paper with something written on it:

"To you who find this note, know that this place is called the Room of Requirement. Anything you wish for, provided it is reasonable and not alive, can appear in this room."

Indeed, during the times I was passing by, I wanted to find this place that was, for me, a library, but apparently, it was more than that.

"You will find, to the left of the entrance, a module that will change the perception of time in this room. Ten minutes spent in this room equals one minute in the real world."

That was exactly what I wanted—more time to study, do homework, and so on.

"You can lock the room so that it doesn’t appear to anyone else, to avoid being disturbed. Also, one last thing: you don’t have to act silly in front of the door. You just need to pass by it three times while wanting something, and you’ll get it."

Where there should have been a signature, there was only a sun of several colors.

After I finished reading, the paper burned and disappeared.

This place must be known to many people, so I think I’ll just tell Marie and we can work together.

It’s amazing that such a place exists at Hogwarts. I did some tests, trying to think of things I wanted. I managed to get some classic potion ingredients so I could work a bit more.

Then I tried to summon a book about dark magic, ancient or divine, but nothing appeared.

For an hour with the device activated—that is, 6 minutes in the real world—I more or less understood the powers and limits of this place.

I decided to go watch the game since time was no longer a problem.

"Weren’t you supposed to study?"

"Let’s enjoy the game, I’ll tell you when we’re alone."

After some discussion, we watched a rather unfair match between the two teams. The Slytherins used every opportunity to pull dirty tricks, and the Gryffindors, especially Fred and George, retaliated out of revenge.

In the end, it was a crushing victory for Slytherin.

"Quidditch is great! I hope next year I can be part of the team."

"I wouldn’t want to do that too much, because it’s still very dangerous."

"There are very few people who would attack you, since they know they’d face the revenge of everyone who relies on you to help them understand the different subjects."

What Marie said wasn’t wrong, because for some, I’m like a savior who appeared out of nowhere to help them better understand the lessons.

In another place, the house-elf who had revealed the existence of the Room of Requirement was kneeling before the person who had modified the room.

"You did a very good job, but you don’t have to keep this appearance. You know I prefer you when you don’t hide your true form."

The elf took on a more human female appearance, except for her eyes, where one on the left was graving sloth and the other had number 1 written on it.

"Sorry, Master, I was just waiting for confirmation on whether you wanted me to keep an eye on this human."

"No need."

"With all due respect, Master, I wonder why you’re interested in a human like her."

"Her source of knowledge and her thirst to learn more draw me to her."

"I must warn you that we have someone in our nation with a similar personality."

"That's precisely why she interests me. She doesn’t come from us, yet one could say she was born here."

"Are you planning your reincarnation project?"

"No, not yet. I’ve seen the trials that await her in the future, and the choice won’t be made until she’s thirty and has completed all her tests."

"As you wish."

She bowed and disappeared.
