Chapter 17: Poison Among the Trees
It didn't take long before the Poison shows its effect, Carfeld's eyes quickly bulged and from his perspective, his vision slowly fades away, he finds himself gradually being taken over by the Poison, and soon he lost his vision and couldn't see.
On the outside, Carfeld's body started to relax, his eyes might be wide open but his minds has gone off to somewhere else, away from this place.
Sylias then released Carfeld out of her Abyss Hands and she deactivated her spell, the magic circle quickly disappeared and Carfeld was now standing infront of her, like a zombie that doesn't have the capability of forming a thought.
While Carfeld was under the influence of the poison, he occassionally took a step in a random direction, at first he goes to the left, then a few seconds later, he took another step forward, there was no particular pattern in his movement.

Inside of Carfeld's mind however, he woke up in a different place, when his vision came back, what he saw was not the same forest that he remember, infact what he sees right now isn't even a forest, instead it was a garden, with beautiful flowers and calming breeze touching his face in a gentle and soothing way, Carfeld could see the bustling city in the distance and a mansion behind him with a door that leads to the inside, he was sitting beneath a tree at that time with a wooden sword beside him.
"W- where am i— Wait, this garden– Isn't this.."
'This is my-
"Brother!!"
Suddenly, someone can be heard calling Eldi from behind, the voice sounded like a young girl, and along with it, a rapid footstep sound started to appear and is gradually getting louder and louder.
"gasp– This voice..." Carfeld said quietly.
Carfeld looked behind him to see who it was, there, he saw a little girl, approximately 10 years old, who is running towards him with a basket full of fruits, the girl had a brown hair with twintails and is wearing a fancy dress, similar to what a noble would wear.
"A- Anaya?!"
"BROTHER CARFELD!!"
Carfeld stood up in excitement and his face shows sign of relief after seeing his younger sister again after so long, that's when he realized that, Carfeld had turned into his younger self, back when he was still a teenager practicing the sword.
His younger sister Anaya hugged him, that action made Carfeld shed a couple of tears and he hugged her back, he couldn't believe that he could see his young sister again, he wants to believe that this is fake, but the feeling of touch and also the smell of flowers in the garden convinced him that whatever happened in Monoghriad Forest was just a bad dream, a very long nightmare.
"Brother brother!! Mama told me to bring you fruits and i said to her that you need a lot of fruits to be strong! So here!!"
Anaya gave Carfeld the basket, it was filled with fruits like apple and banana, the fact that a 10 year old was able to lift this basket is incredibly considering its weight.
"Huh? brother Carfeld, why are you crying?..." She said.
There was a trace of tears falling off of Carfeld's eyes, and Anaya was worried that she might have made her brother sad, she felt bad for making her brother cry and thought that she might have did something wrong.
"Did i do something wrong?..."
"A- Ah no!! Of course not! Im not crying–
Carfeld quickly wiped away his tears and then looked at his sister in the eye.
"Im sorry, im not sad! See? There was a dust that entered my eyes, so i cried, its not Anaya's fault!"
"Really?..."
"Yes! i promise! Your brother is really glad to have Anaya in here, thank you for the fruits!" Carfeld said as he gently stroke Anaya's head.
"Hehe... Im glad brother is okay!"
The moments Carfeld experiencing right now was priceless, he couldn't ask anything more other than spending time with his family, he thought that maybe now he could strive to become a better person and perhaps corrected his mistake that might happen in the future.
'In the future?..'
"Brother!! Did you know that—
Anaya's face suddenly flickered, at first it was way too quick to notice, but soon after, the flickering happened again, not just her face, but her surrounding too.
"W- what?.. Anaya?" Carfeld asked, his voice grows more weary by the second.
He saw the flicker again, and again, until it was everywhere, its as if two worlds were trying to collide with eachother, Carfeld's expression turned into horror as he saw Anaya being covered in blood for a split second before going back to her innocent and cute looks, but that doesn't last long, her bloody dead body appeared again, the garden that was once filled with beauty and serenity turned into a raging fire that consumes everything on its surrounding.
"ANAYA!!"
The sky turned red, reality began to show itself, Carfeld's mansion was destroyed, he should've seen it coming, there was nothing he could do to repair his mistake, this was all a dream all along, he was never able to save his family from their death, at the very end, Carfeld changed into his old self, where he had become a Special Knight, watching his dead younger sister body infront of him, covered in blood after a giant piece of the mansion falls on her head.
He stood there motionlessly, thinking about this moment again, where at that time he could do nothing but hide like a pathetic loser, he couldn't lift his sword, he was too scared, a group of bandits appeared out of nowhere in the middle of the night, they brought mages to cause chaos, they burned everything, took away every single treasure in the mansion, and then killed everyone inside.
The bandits ran away through the back of the mansion, where it was also the garden's location, Carfeld was still standing infront of his younger sister body when the bandits ran past him, their body went through Carfeld's spiritual form before disappearing into the horizon and under the moonlight.
"..."
The sound of fire burning the mansion and also the garden broke Carfeld's ear, he clenched his fist as hard as he could, he was forced to witness this scene again, this time in a perspective that he had never experienced before, and just like that, he falls to his knee, feeling devastated, before letting out the loudest scream possible from a human.

Back at the temporary camp for the Expedition Group...
"After the snake got cut in half, my vision blurred and i think i passed out right there, before waking up at the outer part of the forest.." Carfeld said to other Special Knights around him.
"Wait what.. You passed out and woke up at the outer part of the forest? How?" Said Davira, curious.
"I can't really remember how, it's just that after the snake was killed, my mind just kinda went blank after it until i woke up at the outer forest— Monoghriad is a big forest, its area is almost as big as Highlios, if Monoghriad is a kingdom, we would be taken away from the number two spot of the largest kingdom on the continent— And meeting other human in the inner part of that forest is very unlikely, i would even say impossible. So the question is, who killed that giant snake?"
Everyoned wondered, they thought about it for while, what Carfeld said was not entirely wrong, Monoghriad is just that big of a forest, and the fact that there are barely anyone in the world that has the capability of going into the inner part of the forest, its not an exaggeration to say that meeting another person randomly in that place is as impossible as finding an ancient hidden treasure with no knowledge or information.
But they couldn't just ignore the Giant Snake that got killed, although monsters in that place are always fighting with eachother for dominance and food, there was no creature that could instantly kill the Giant Snake.
Along with Chimera, Two-Headed Giant Snake was one of the monsters that ruled the inner part of Monoghriad, while Griffins and Wyverns ruled the sky, an unknown monster that is capable of one-shotting any of them should be called a calamity, or even a king or lord.
"Well if what you're saying is true, i think its reasonable to increase our guard when we arrive there, tell everyone else that we're going to be extra cautious after entering the forest, even if it was in the outer part." Said Rezio.
