Chapter 12: Chapter 12 I Still Can't Forget You (Part 2)_1
Pulled into the car, Musheng was almost instantly enveloped in a scorching embrace, her head pressed against the man's chest, feeling his heart beating too rapidly within his chest like the trembling thrum of drums.
"Musheng… Musheng!"
The trembling in his voice, tinged with fear, made Musheng freeze for a moment.
Fear?
He could actually feel fear!
She had never seen him scared before; it seemed that in her presence, or anyone else's, he always maintained a cold indifference, distancing himself far from the mundane world. He spoke very little, often silent, speaking only a word or two to her—and only just perhaps.
She knew he had developed everything he created very successfully. To outsiders, the aloof and chilly young master of the Mu Family appeared as a child before her. She knew that children would grow up someday, but she never knew that this man, who was indifferent to almost everything, could actually be afraid of something.
A piercing pain slowly spread through her heart. Musheng's eyes drooped, her eyelashes lightly trembled, and as she reached out to push him away, she found his strength stunning, holding her so tightly it was hard for her to breathe.
"Do you recognize me?"
A muffled and slightly cool voice emitted from Mu Lianmiao's embrace. He paused, then as if suddenly realizing something, his pupils narrowed and he almost violently pushed Musheng away, finally giving her a chilling look, snake-like and enough to make one shudder.
"..."
If she didn't know his temperament so well, Musheng would have wanted to give him a thorough beating. It was he who had abducted her into the car, yet he had the audacity to act unwilling in front of her.
God must have been partial, giving this man not only a brilliant mind but also a face that could make one insane, a face people would commit crimes for.
Every line of his facial features was essential; the combination of his features was just right. The mere act of him slightly lifting his gaze could make one's breath catch in an instant.
His black shirt wrapped around his equally perfect body, the subtle movements of his breathing chest radiating an indescribable temptation. Such a celestial man, yet with eyes so dark and terrifying, was both mesmerizing and too cold to approach.
"Sir, kidnapping someone on the street is against the law."
Since he seemed unwilling to speak, Musheng spoke again, only for Mu Lianmiao to glance at her and coldly turn his head away, seemingly disgusted. Simultaneously, leaving no room for questioning, the previously unmoved car door slid open.
A surge of inexplicable anger flared within her. Although Musheng did not wish to recognize Mu Lianmiao at this time, it did not mean she was willing to be treated this way. She got out of the car and, unable to hold back her temper, slammed the car door heavily.
With a "bang," as the door closed, the car sped away, as arrogantly as if it hadn't just run a red light.
"Damn it!"
Musheng cursed under her breath, ignoring the strange looks from the people around her, and continued towards her original destination.
In her past life, her death was shrouded in mystery, sandwiched between two trucks on the highway—one in front, one behind. If that was an accident, she would die again right then and there!
So, she had to investigate the matter but couldn't alert anyone. No one would believe she was still alive; her body had been smashed to pieces. Who would believe she had been reborn into someone else's body?
Fortunately, she could use this unthreatening identity, which was even overlooked, to investigate the matter bit by bit!
Therefore, Mu Lianmiao, she could not recognize—at least not yet. Moreover, Musheng didn't dare to bet on whether Mu Lianmiao would believe her…
Musheng bought a few new clothes from the mall, all of which were in simple and elegant styles. The preference of the original Musheng was a little different from hers, as she didn't like those somewhat flashy clothes.
Although she used to wear only custom-made clothing, with a single piece costing hundreds of thousands or even millions, she was now poor, and being able to afford clothes at all was already an achievement.
By the time she arrived home, Mo Yao had already called someone over to set up the internet connection. Having taken the bus back, Musheng almost felt sweaty, so as soon as she entered the house, she plopped down in front of the fan Mo Yao had bought and couldn't be bothered to move, just watching Mo Yao bustling about.
After the internet cable was set up and the utility worker had tested and confirmed that the speed was normal, he left. Mo Yao picked up her laptop to connect to the internet, her face full of excitement, "Finally, we have internet. Musheng, can I set the WIFI password to 'Mo Yao is Musheng's great beauty 0719'? Just use the abbreviation mysmsddmn0719. 0719 is my birthday too!"
"Whatever you want..."
Musheng twitched the corner of her mouth. What kind of password was this? But she was too lazy to oppose it, so she decided to just let Mo Yao have her way.
After happily setting the password, Mo Yao connected Musheng's phone to the WIFI and then started playing games on her laptop.
Basking in the sunlight, Musheng felt sleepy and was about to doze off, when Mo Yao suddenly asked, "Did you find a job?".
Musheng blinked her sore eyes and replied softly, "I did, managing an internet café."
"Ah? Internet cafés are so chaotic..." Mo Yao reflexively wanted to say internet cafés were not good, but then she suddenly paused, her expression darkening as if remembering something from the train ride, and she said no more, "Well, you just work hard. You said you were going to support me."
Musheng responded with a "mm," "Just not starving is good enough."
Mo Yao burst into giggles.
Watching Mo Yao's radiant smile, Musheng couldn't help but think of Lianmiao. The more she was alone, the more she missed Lianmiao, especially now.
...
In Capital City's 'Kaili' Grand Hotel, the 78th floor was high enough to overlook the entire city. However, only one person in the entire world was entitled to stay on the 78th floor of 'Kaili'.
The view from the window was brilliant with luxurious decadence, which made the loftiness and solitary depth of this floor all the more apparent. Barefoot, Lianmiao stood on the plush carpet, peering through the expansive windows at the hustle and bustle of the city below, seemingly in a world apart from his own splendid isolation.
He had not turned on the lights, standing in the dim light, his expression hauntingly desolate and silent, like a god who had fallen into darkness, struggling for one last salvation.
"Young Master Mu."
Out of the darkness came a man dressed in a well-tailored suit, his demeanor respectful.
"I've gathered all the information on that girl and placed it on your desk."
After saying this, he waited quietly for orders.
Even though Lianmiao remained silent for a long time, the man continued to wait respectfully until a voice, surreal as an illusion, light as water, and sharp as ice, broke the silence. "The Mu Family..."
"They've recently held a family council, concerning your marriage, Young Master Mu."
"Hmpf..."
A light laugh escaped, yet it seemed like a sneer from hell, laden with inexplicable despair and fear.
