Chapter 15: An Effort
Gaia didn't waste time, she began spitting a string of things she could do. The list was so long that she practically rapped all her uses for 6 minutes. That display would make any seasoned rapper hang their head in shame, hearing the woman's desperation Marco considered her uses.
The main things he saw useful about her were that she was good at management and had a decent ability to trap beings. Practically everything else Gaia said was useless, what is a "person to make honey" supposed to mean? Marco had weird thoughts about how Gaia would put on a bee suit to play around in a flower patch but decided to ignore that.
Staring at Gaia he considered if it would be a good idea to bring her with him or just cut his losses but killing her now. Thinking he should extend an olive branch he suggested, "How about you swear your eternal loyalty to me, if you do, I will spare you and treat you as my subordinate" Gaia was insulted, a primordial goddess was being forced to bow her head and be an unknown bastard's servant.
Though she never had been so insulted she knew that she had no choice in the matter. She was not willing to die as she did not know how long until she can resurrect again. She was in search of power that could help her in her revenge, she could not afford to lose even a second let alone however long for her resurrection.
She looked at Marco trying to gauge his reaction but seeing veins popping on his head she swallowed her pride and agreed. She then asked him for his name so that a contract could be established, he simply replied "I'm Marco". Marco observed as she put her finger on her chest drawing out a green thread, she then brought her finger to Marco's heart. As she touched his chest, she blushed being that it was millennia since she touched a man, she was weirdly getting excited.
But with Marco's continuous glare, she snapped out of her stupor remembering that her life hung in the balance. She proclaimed "I hereby dedicate my existence to Marco, always being loyal or my soul be destroyed" Marco was confused as he thought that a fancier ritual would take place or something, this is pretty mundane for a loyalty contract.
Gaia was confused she had gods swear themselves to her in this method but for some reason, it did not work on this man. Confused she tried to again but the same thing happened again. Thinking that the ritual was correct she whimpered "Sir Marco, is Marco really your name?" Seeing Marco's annoyed look she quickly defended herself "I have conducted this ritual many times before ok, this is the first time that I've seen this happen"
Marco was just confused now, if what Gaia said was true then his real name was not Marco but there was also a possibility of her lying to escape the situation. Though this was his last effort to spare the goddess, if this method failed, she would die. Sighing if what Gaia said was true, he would be wasting a meat shield right? Yes, his thoughts were getting more evil by the minute, from his point of view Gaia stalling to save herself was simply grating Marco's patience. "How do I find my true name then woman" Marco asked more tired than he thought.
"You simply have to invoke your power and ask the system what is your true name." Marco thought he just heard some nonsense but just did as she said. No harm would come if he tried it, and if this failed, he would simply kill her. Marco invoked some of his remaining power and said "Tell me 'SYSTEM' what is my name." He did this in an extremely exaggerated manner as if trying to insult Gaia saying that her last tug at hope was pathetic. Much to his shock a response came almost immediately, they both heard the system saying Marco's true name and that name made Gaia look at Marco with pure horror in her whole being.
