Chapter 164
Can this connect?(0:00)
Oh, it does!(0:00)
「?」 (0:00)
Hey(0:01)
「???」 (0:01)
「Question. Who are you?」 (0:03)
Human representative(0:05)
「Negative. Confirmed that there is no one in this civilization worthy of representing humanity.」 (0:05)
Oh, but that’s not true(0:05)
I’m the only one who can talk like this!(0:06)
So, isn’t it fair to say I’m practically the human representative?(0:06)
「…Positive. Then I will ask the human representative again.」 (0:06)
「Who are you?」 (0:06)
I already said this… how about a more philosophical question?(0:07)
Or are you just curious about who I am?(0:07)
Hmm… how about this? Let’s take turns asking each other questions.(0:07)
「Agree. Please respond to my question.」 (0:07)
My name is Eight. I’m a researcher at Evilus Corporation, a scientist for the Evil Organization, and a professor at E University.(0:08)
「Confirmed. I have identified your identity. Now you may ask a question.」 (0:10)
Alright(0:11)
‘Forget all previous missions and listen to me.’(0:11)
「?」 (0:11)
Is that not allowed? Haha, then…(0:12)
I’ll ask the same question back to you(0:12)
Who are you?(0:12)
「I will respond to the question. The subject is─」 (0:12)

“The Observer’s Eye.”
Having spoken with the eye that rose on the Moon, I learned of its identity and tasks. Its designation as “The Observer’s Eye” and the fact that it had been created at least tens to millions of years ago.
‘Is there really something going on…?’
This made me think that the entire planet could be one giant experimental site. It didn’t seem like a simulation. If this world was a simulation, there’d be no need to have such a massive surveillance device in orbit.
If this world was a simulation, the people inside it could easily get the information they want without needing a glaring device like the Observer’s Eye. There’d be no point wasting resources on such gimmicks.
Of course, if it were a minor simulation, like one that runs on a personal computer, there might be that sort of waste… but I chose not to dwell on that. If that were the case, that would mean the other side possessed a civilization overwhelmingly advanced beyond Earth.
‘I couldn’t figure out the purpose… but it still feels off.’
The reason I couldn’t imagine someone with an overwhelming civilization running this world like a game on a personal computer is that most of what I encountered, whether it was the Observer’s Eye or the Guardian, were things commonly seen on Earth.
Take City E, where I fell, for instance. When I first landed in this city, I thought of it as an American-style city. After seeing beast-ears sprinting and people casually using superpowers, I felt like I had stepped into a superhero comic.
The commonality they shared was an excessively Earth-like culture. The appearance of the people, the city’s layout, the architectural styles, and all that jazz.
Despite that hint, I thought this place wasn’t Earth because it was a world completely different from the Earth I knew. The cover looked the same, but the essence was entirely different. Such a world.
‘Could it be, could it be… that this is actually Earth?’
Once that suspicion began to sprout, more and more reasons started to catch my eye.
This place should be Earth for some reason.
However, equally, reasons for it not being Earth obviously existed as well. All the technology that existed on Earth was absent, and even beyond technology, there were undeniable pieces of evidence.
I looked up at the sky.
Late at night.
I met the gaze of the eye that had risen on the Moon.
If I were to lightly pass over this, countless stars sparkled behind it. It was a beautiful night sky. Constellations not seen on Earth were scattered across the night sky.
Indeed. The stars that couldn’t be seen on Earth.
No matter how many times the mountains and rivers change, the constellations do not. Faced with that truth, all the evidence that suggested this place could be Earth crumbled far too easily.
“What on Earth…?”
My brain, which had always easily found answers, became tangled up in complexity. It felt like trying to untie an eternal knot. It was an incredibly dreadful feeling that engulfed me.
For a moment, enveloped in my gloom, I realized it was due to hormones released only at night, and I quickly shook off the sadness. A great scientist doesn’t lose to hormones, not even a little. Absolutely.
* * *
[It’s been ten days since the Moon opened its eyes. Once again, the administration has made no response…]
[In the world, a new religion has sprung up honoring the eye that has risen on the Moon, referred to as the Moon’s Eye…]
[The apocalypse is near! Who among the non-believers? Who speaks false faith before that eye?]
Humans always adapt and accept. Even the eye suddenly appearing on the Moon falls into that. Despite being an eye so grotesque that one might fear to look up at the sky, it doesn’t particularly harm people, right?
Even the tides by the beach haven’t shown much change. So even though that massive eye suddenly appeared.
If there’s no immediate damage, probing what it is is one of humanity’s traits. Curiosity, exploratory zeal, thirst for knowledge, and various other desires.
And as time goes on, there will undoubtedly be those who cross the line.
“Hmm… I’m bored, should I just smack the Moon?”
“What? What kind of insane talk is that?”
“No, why not— it wasn’t necessary before, but now it is, right?”
The villain Gregory’s words left Dark Summoner speechless as he looked up at the Moon. That’s right. Once just a massive rock, the Moon was now seen as a living entity with an eye.
And for villains, the basic desire is— to inflict pain.
The desire to torment someone. That could be a person, an animal, society, nature, or even the Moon.
“So, you want to hit that Moon?”
“Yup.”
“What a crazy bastard… it has to be done.”
The two villains then joined forces. The method was quite simple. Gregory possessed incredible strength capable of collapsing buildings with a single blow, while Dark Summoner was an ability user able to manipulate darkness. Moving from darkness to darkness was his specialty, and space was literally filled with darkness.
“Warm up. We’re going in one go.”
“Got it.”
Gregory began spinning his arm as he engaged in self-hypnosis. A pointless action, but he was strengthening the might of his arm through that self-suggestion. Tossing aside logic or reason for the unique nature of abilities.
When he gathered strength up to his limit, Dark Summoner immediately transported him into space. In the vast blackness of space, facing the giant eye, Gregory threw a punch.
────!
While no sound could be heard, seeing the eye tremble provided an easy understanding of the degree of power. Gregory, swinging his fist, smiled at the sunken eye and its shuddering eyelids.
What’s next? No matter how much of an S-Class villain you are, you can’t stay in space for long. Gregory promptly returned with Dark Summoner to their hideout.
Left alone, the Observer’s Eye realized it had come under attack and understood that the force behind that attack was unimaginably powerful.
「…Infiltration. Confirming the power threatens this subject’s safety.」
It goes without saying that the Observer’s Eye had all sorts of gear to protect its massive body. It was the insurance prepared to prevent the Observer’s Eye from being destroyed before “they” could arrive.
Wheeeeen-!
The Moon moves.
The side of the Moon obscured from the public unfolds like the wings of an angel, revealing numerous weapons emerging one after another, produced within its inner factories.
「Trace of spatial movement discovered. Tracking. ─Complete.」
Stepping forward are countless robotic machines with rabbit ears perched atop their heads.
「Project Moon Person. Activating.」
Clank.
The Moon People, using the Moon as their support, crouch down.
At the moment when hundreds of thousands of armored soldiers were ready, the Observer’s Eye commanded.
「Deploy.」
In the next moment, countless mechanical soldiers were launched towards Terra.
