The Evil Scientist is Too Competent

Chapter 166

Those caught off guard by the sudden appearance of the rabbit android included the following: a complete slacker who could do nothing but mess around, a societal dropout leeching off their parents for over a decade, and a human trash bag who’d swing violence at parents and children alike while drowning in booze and gambling.

Of course, even villains faced their correctional measures, but the number of ‘ordinary people’ forced into a similar fate far outnumbered the villains. It made sense, really. There are way more people out there who’ve committed minor offenses than those classified as high-level criminals.

Those who underwent correction acted as if they were entirely different people overnight. The slacker, who used to grope himself in his room, suddenly started studying, exercising, and even dating, while the human garbage that used violence daily began working after a heartfelt apology and reflection.

It wasn’t that heroes or the government couldn’t do anything about them. From the government’s perspective, these freeloaders—all viewed like SCVs merely occupying population space—were suddenly working cogs in society’s machine. The heroes praised how their lives had improved, but nobody was stopping them.

“This is insane…”

But from my perspective, having come from Earth?

This was a horrifying affront to human dignity. It was an act that dared to trample on the inviolable rights one shouldn’t let machines disrupt.

What makes a life wasted on drivel that clutters the internet worse than a functioning part of society? What grounds are there for declaring a life obsessed with booze and gambling superior to one lived earnestly?

Lincoln lived in poverty, doing hard labor, yet he succeeded in becoming the President of the United States. Liu Bei sold mats in the marketplace but eventually became a king. Tyson, a street punk known for violence, became one of the world’s most famous boxers, and Robert Downey Jr., despite being a child drug addict, found massive success as an actor.

Just because someone succeeded doesn’t mean we can predetermine who will fail. A mere machine has no right to dictate that or pry into the workings of the human brain.

“These crazy machine bastards…”

We, the executives of evil, weren’t spared from the rabbit androids’ insanity either; our base was already left empty. After pacing the hallway, furrowing my brows, I analyzed where these crazy machines might have come from.

Before long, I discovered, shockingly, that these robots had fallen from the sky. Could it be that God, enraged by the behavior of humans, sent them down? Couldn’t be.

I glanced up at the sky. A clear blue sky. In the distance, the faint shadow of the moon started to emerge, and faintly visible eyes blinked in the periphery.

“That one must be the culprit.”

Thinking this way, I couldn’t solidify it as fact just yet. I cautiously attempted communication with the Observer. The passage I used last time was still open.

「?」

Upon establishing the connection, I briefly pondered what to say.

[Why did you do this?]

「Question. What do you mean by this?」

[Do you not know that brainwashing humans with machines is illegal?]

Of course, such laws didn’t exist in this world. However, if this Observer was, as I suspected, linked to Earth or came from Earth—

「Answer. The beings of your planet are not recognized as humanity.」

[…What?]

「The sentient beings of Terra have not yet been recognized as humans.」

I froze upon hearing the Observer’s reply. Are the people of this world not human? It felt utterly ludicrous, yet countless pieces of evidence flashed through my mind to support this claim.

Created guardians, beastfolk, people casually wielding superpowers. I could tell they were eons apart from the humanity I once knew.

Staring blankly at the blinking chat window, I carefully began to type.

[What if I concede?]

「Recognition requires agreement from the President of the Union and twenty council members.」

This meant it was impossible for me. In that case, all I could do was one thing.

[Then die.]

「?」

Even if it meant crashing the moon down.

I had to stop this filthy act, which unfolded so easily.

* * *

“Mother, I’m off.”

“O-okay…”

Michel couldn’t shake the awkward feeling as she watched her polite son. Was that really the same boy who’d been cooped up in his room just days ago, emanating nothing but sweat?

A quick glance revealed a bizarre, furry creature standing next to her son. At first, she thought he had a girlfriend, but no, it turned out to be an android in the form of a beastfolk. It was something that frequently appeared in the news…

[Alright, today’s plan is the nearby park. After running for 10 kilometers, we’ll head home for a shower—]

“Sure, let’s go.”

Had he been brainwashed by that android? Typically, he wouldn’t step outside for five minutes but now he seemed eager to exercise. Technically, he wasn’t alone; the android was with him too…

Watching her son venture out to exercise, Michel felt tears welling up. It was touching to see the boy who had troubled her for years finally acting like a decent human being.

‘He doesn’t seem like my son. To change so drastically overnight.’

Could a person really undergo that kind of transformation overnight? Maybe it wasn’t her son but someone who simply resembled him, placed in that role.

But those thoughts were fleeting. Michel set out with the ingredients the android provided, determined to whip up something healthy, not some cheap instant food. If her son was striving to be a better person, she had to help him as a parent.

With the familiar sounds of gunfire as a backdrop, she finished shopping at the market and returned home. Just as she approached her front door with a smiling face, an inexplicable feeling of dread washed over her.

Tap tap tap-.

“…Mikhail?”

Calling her son’s name, she made her way upstairs. Each step up the staircase was shrouded in fear and terror. No way, that can’t be right. It couldn’t be.

Finally reaching the second floor, Michel cautiously opened the door, hearing the sound of typing coming from inside.

“─What the hell am I doing!? I haven’t received a login bonus all week!”

“A-ah…”

“Huh? When did you come in? Get out! I said not to enter my room without permission!”

“M-Mikhail? You were supposed to—”

“Exercise? Why would I do that? Am I crazy?”

Her son had returned.

Seeing him like that made Michel collapse onto the floor.

Was this how a clergyman felt after being promised salvation only to be forsaken? Dropping from hope into a pit of despair, Michel could do nothing but weep.

“Damn it! Why did you throw away all the alcohol!?”

“What? I didn’t receive my allowance for a week? …Then just give me the allowance for the whole time at once.”

“Ugh… Dudu… I’m just a baby… The outside world is dangerous…”

One week since the rabbit android—commonly referred to as Moon Person—had appeared.

Those who had undergone rehabilitation were slowly reverting to their old selves. People began analyzing what was causing this, and they realized that the rabbit android, or Moon Person, had suddenly vanished.

While some speculated if it had been a miracle that vanished after a week, it turned out that wasn’t the case. People had witnessed androids hunting the Moon Person.

“The video got deleted suddenly… but I swear there was a fight between androids!?”

“That android looks familiar…”

“Oh, right! It’s Evilus Android!”

The Evilus Android was hunting the Moon Person. As this rumor spread like wildfire, the internet was eerily quiet. Despite countless witnesses in reality, there were no accounts, photos, or videos surfacing online.

It wasn’t just simple media control; even the darkest of websites remained silent. People shrugged their shoulders and brushed it off as mere hearsay. In a world where smartphones and artificial intelligence were widespread, nobody believed anything without solid evidence.

It goes without saying that someone was aware of all this.

「Question. Why are you interfering?」

The Observer countered with a question to Eight.

Receiving the communication, Eight momentarily fell silent before finally speaking up.

[These people are human.]

「Negation. According to Union law, they are not human.」

[In the law of this world, these people are human. They possess human rights.]

「Negation. This stipulation has not been recognized by the Union.」

[Then go ahead and call those prestigious Union fellows.]

That remark left the Observer speechless. Weren’t ‘they’ supposed to have arrived by now? There might have been an issue with the Union…

However, there was no need to share that information with the enemy.

「Final warning. Cease your interference and accept it without resistance. They are not human.」

[You! If you don’t want to end up a tin can, give it up.]

Yet, the prideful two selves refused to back down from their notions of being right.

At this point, both were acutely aware there was only one option left.

…War, yet another war.
