chapter 14
14 – Lessons from assistant instructors.
There were a total of six classes in the second year of Setin Divine Academy. A, B, C, D, E, F. In a way, it seems that they are divided in order of grades, but they said that they are completely randomly assigned. There were around 30 students in each class, but the current quota was 200 in total, and Ed, who had 3 classes today, had to fight with 100 students.
Like Class A, Ed cursed on one line, but this time on the third line. If it was the same every time, there would be no students sitting in the front row. Just like class A, they aroused hostility, summoned skeletons, and started a 1:1 battle.
There are students who fight well, but there are still many students who are helplessly defeated. In the first class, enough to recognize that the skeletons handled by the necromancer were not monsters with strong aggression, but soldiers of the necromancer, it was Cymus who was also active in that class, having been defeated once.
“Keugh!”
While wielding a hammer, he battled the skeleton. The quasi-curse took Cymus a little by surprise, but that’s all, the experience of being stacked with curses with an incantation and the two experiences of defeating a skeleton clearly put Cymus ahead of the other students.
“Good work! Cymus!”
“Win! Give the Necromancer a shot!”
Unfortunately, Cymus came in close to the end, so he received support from many students who had already lost.
“Oohh!!!”
Possibly cheering them on, Cymus swung his hammer and cut down the shield, loosening the guard and aiming at the skeleton with his left hand.
– Taang!
When the magic bullets were fired from Cymus’ hand, Ed used self-destruction on the skeleton at the right timing. Following Ed’s order, when the core cut off the supply of mana to the skeleton, it completely disintegrated and fell to the ground. Seeing the skeleton shattered, Cymus raised his hammer and shouted loudly.
“Ajaaa!!!”
“and!”
“That bastard really won!”
“Symus is the best!”
Class B students cheered for Cymus as one. As if he had defeated a real necromancer, Cymus spun around with his hammer.
‘I gave a little more strength, but it didn’t work.’
I added about 10% of the strength to the skeleton adjusted for practice, but it was not enough. When the students’ excitement subsided a bit, Glodia patted Cymus on the shoulder and said,
“Has Cymus had experience fighting a skeleton once?”
“…yes.”
When Cymus heard what Professor Glodia had to say, the joy of victory subsided. Even on the weekend, Ed managed to defeat the skeleton, but was defeated by the power of ‘Necromancer’. very helpless. It reminded me of how I had no choice but to keep my head up and watch even as death approached.
“If you’ve had the experience of fighting a skeleton even once like this, you’ll be able to fight better next time. That’s the reason I invited the necromancer Instructor Ed as an assistant instructor for this class. To accumulate experience even once. Good job, Cymus. Get in your seat.”
Glodia gave Cymus a slight push on the back, but he stood still.
“Why?”
“Professor Glodia, I want to fight the ‘Necromancer’ one more time.”
As Cymus said, Glodia smiled softly.
“I’ll give students who haven’t had a fight with a skeleton yet a chance to do a ‘performance evaluation’ in advance. Go in.”
“All right.”
Cymus was not satisfied with Glodia’s answer, but went in and sat down. As soon as he sat down, his classmates bombarded him with questions about how he fought and won, and Cymus straightened his face and answered them.
“I can do it too!”
“I did Cymus too!”
The students who came next came forward full of confidence after seeing Cymus’ victory, but nothing more happened.
“Student Cymus, please come out.”
At Ed’s call, Symus took a short breath and came forward. The silver-haired necromancer with blue light waved his hand once in the air while staring at himself with cold blue eyes. The third skeleton that was shown at the beginning of the lecture when curses and skeletons were mentioned appeared.
“The performance test is to defeat three skeletons, and you can use magic freely.”
As the three skeletons controlled by Ed stood in front of Cymus, the B class students held their breath and watched them. I was ignoring the skeletons, but I know how strong the skeletons handled by ‘Necromancer’ are because I’ve fought them once. Everyone felt that even if the restrictions of magic were lifted, a 1:3 fight would be disadvantageous.
But Cymus was different.
‘So anyway. Skeleton.’
I was able to hold the hammer tightly because I knew that the movement of that necromancer was incomparably more terrible.
“Looks like it’s ready… Start. Start!”
Cymus and the skeleton moved at the same time at Glodia’s cry. Cymus charged forward while loading his hammer with mana, and the skeletons on either side ran faster than the skeleton in front, as if they were trying to move in the form of wrapping around Cymus. To cut the numbers, Cymus veered right.
“aaap!”
When Cymus swung the hammer, it emitted light and changed into a huge one, striking the skeleton with it.
-Kwaaang!!
The skeleton raised its shield to block the hammer, but the discerning students confirmed that the skeleton was half-shattered. Cymus stepped back, holding back his movement by raising his left hand and firing a magic bullet at the approaching skeleton. Ed treated the half-shattered skeleton as uncombatable and completely destroyed it using self-destruction.
“Wow! One less!”
“It’s easy because you can use magic!”
“Matan is a basic skill in Cetin!”
After Cymus defeated the skeletons, the students started to talk in silence, but Cymus felt great pressure despite the reduced numbers. At first, when the skeletons were spread apart, it was possible to break them individually, but when I applied pressure as if the two skeletons were united, I thought that I would get hurt if I couldn’t control both planes at the same time.
– Shook! Shook! Shook!
As the two skeletons took turns swinging their swords and blocking each other with their shields, there was almost no gap. Cymus frowned and cast the spell on the hammer again. As he swung his huge hammer while emitting light, one skeleton blocked the attack and opened the way for the other skeletons.
-Kang! Kang!
Cymus hurriedly fired a magic bullet, but he moved forward while blocking it with his shield, and the skeleton’s sword touched Cymus’ neck, who was cornered.
“Whoa… I lost.”
“Ah! It’s a waste!”
“Isn’t 1:3 a bit cowardly?”
“That’s right! In 1:1, Cymus was a landslide victory!”
Ed raised the skeleton back up and retrieved it all into subspace. And came out in front of the students.
“Do you think using a skeleton set is a bit unreasonable?”
When Ed asked directly, the students became quiet. The curse and the skeleton at the beginning of the class, and the threat with no poison and even being defeated by the skeleton, so the students in Class B didn’t want to talk to Ed.
“There is Terut Academy in the North like Cetin Divine Academy. It is an academy that nurtures necromancers. After graduating there, you usually become a 5th class necromancer, but a 5th class necromancer handles 5 skeletons at once. You might have to fight a necromancer who mixes all the curses I showed you, the poisons you didn’t use, and those things, but counting skeletons is definitely not your goal.”
There were also students who ignored Ed’s words, saying, ‘Speaking of necromancers.’ There were also students who were worried. It was Glodia who evoked such an atmosphere.
“Still, I need to get good grades right away, so I should be able to subdue from the third period, right? Good job, Cymus. If I had kept the skeletons in check by putting magic bullets with attributes, I wouldn’t have been able to come to you.”
“Yes. Professor.”
Ed backed away slightly as Cymus returned to his seat. Glodia told the students one more time that this week’s magic bullet, next week’s magic unlock, and the performance evaluation were three skeletons, as we saw earlier, and dismissed the students. When the students got out of the first arena, Glodia looked at Ed and said.
“Instructor Ed, let’s take a break in the lab and then go eat, shall we?”
“Yes, Professor Glodia.”
*
When Ed’s class began, calls from parents to complain completely disappeared around the second class. This is because the number of other students who defeated the skeleton increased by more than half in the second class. Necromancers lectured using skeletons, but it was actually a class close to 1:1 sparring, and the students started to look forward to the second week.
Both the students who gained confidence by succeeding in defeating the skeleton and the students who failed to defeat it even had students voluntarily practicing magic, imagining defeating the skeleton with magic containing their powers next week. With the thought of showing off his cool side to his classmates, and later coming out to aristocratic society and boasting that he had defeated a skeleton like this, the second year of Setin was motivated.
“Ah. I want to do my best.”
On the weekend, Ed said to himself while reading a book on a purple moonlit night. Ed, who was able to obtain the qualifications of a special necromancer because the distance at which he could give orders to his summoned beasts was 25 meters was close to perfect, but he was losing to the students on purpose because he had less experience of defeat than that, but something was piling up inside him.
Next week, the students will unleash all their magic, and I will have to use self-destruction on the skeleton at the right time to receive the attack, so I wanted to release this feeling somewhere before something piled up inside.
“At times like this, monster hunting is really good.”
However, the Death Knight and the Skeleton Knight, who had been matching the sum, had all been returned, and there were people in the north who hated to see more than the monsters.
Ed read ‘Ecology of Southern Monsters’ again and decided to go to the South as soon as the assistant instructor job was over.
