chapter 9
9 – Cetin Divine Academy.
It was the beginning of the week, and the important day at the crossroads of accepting Necromancer as an assistant instructor had dawned.
Ed dressed neatly in the suit he bought yesterday and waited for Glodia at the entrance on a purple moonlit night, eating bread with jam. As I reached into the pile of bread to eat one slice of jam-covered bread and another, I felt the stinging gaze of Gloween sitting at the counter. Still, I felt like I needed to eat one more to get through the difficult day I had today, so I grabbed another bread, spread some jam on it, and folded it in half. As Ed was taking a bite of the jam quick room, the door to the room downstairs opened and Glodia came out.
“Mr. Ed, let’s go!”
Glodia walked out, wearing a suit that clearly gave the impression of a young female professor, unlike the outfit I saw on the weekend.
“That’s right. You can eat bread on the go.”
“As an assistant lecturer, you are in the same position as a professor. Are you planning on eating something while walking down the street?”
“That won’t work.”
Ed let a little mana flow through his teeth and chewed it like crushing bread. It was a method used in the North when food sometimes froze, but Ed thought it was a good method.
Of course, the subordinates treated Ed as a strange person and burned him with mana, melted him, and ate him. I don’t know if the soldiers waiting for the food to melt know, but it was possible for the soldiers to eat slowly because Ed finished his meal quickly and wiped out all the monsters around him.
“Are you done already? Let’s go.”
Glodia took the lead first, and Ed slowly followed her. Ed had been to Cetin once before so he remembered the route, but he didn’t have a pass yet so he had to go with Glodia. As Ed was following behind, Glodia slightly slowed down and stood next to Ed.
“Ed, I call you ‘Mr. Glodia’ now, but after you’re hired, I’ll call you Professor Glodia?”
“So Professor Glodia calls me Instructor Ed?”
“I could call him the Frozenborn instructor.”
“Let’s do it as instructor Ed.”
Ed didn’t hate the surname Frozenborn, but it was awkward because he hadn’t been given it that long. When writing official documents, Ed is a very common name, so he thinks he gave him his last name from above. So it was comfortable to be called by my first name on a regular basis.
“Because that’s something that needs to be hired.”
“I am confident in my skills.”
After leaving the inn and walking a little, the front door was wide open and the Setin Divine Academy greeted the two of them. Most of the students from out of town lived in the dormitory, but some students went to school from outside. So a decent number of students were passing through the main gate talking to friends.
Ed followed Glodia to the security office and the new security guard handed Ed a temporary pass. Yesterday was the weekend, so there was no one there, so ‘the assistant instructor Professor Glodia was recruiting was a necromancer.’ The security guard could have thought the same thing, but he could have easily overlooked it because he had to consider not causing problems for students going to school today.
“Hello Professor Glodia!”
“Okay. Hello. Did you have a good weekend?”
“yes.”
The student who greeted Glodia looked at Ed next to him with some suspicion, but did not ask if he was a necromancer. First of all, going to school was important, so I quickly moved to the academy and there were three or four more students like that.
“Ms. Glodia seems to be friendly with the students?”
When Ed was attending Terut Academy, there was almost nothing he could talk to the professor about except for class time. It was polite to ignore and move on even if you were passing by, but the students of Setin all smiled and talked to you.
“Most of the students who greet are commoners. Children from aristocratic families rarely bow to professors outside of class.”
“okay.”
“You hear that the academy is equal, but in reality there are only two things: lecture time and exams. Everything else is an extension of your social life.”
Ed was able to find one reason Cetin was weaker than he thought. Terut Academy was so clearly divided between professors and students that aristocratic students were just like commoners. Even the small household of a great noble called Gray Bordermir couldn’t openly use his power at Terut Academy. He had a strong power to change the rules of the Necromancer license test itself in order to bury Ed, who was a thorn in his side, after he came out to society, but at the academy, he used only a portion of his power to the extent of using his wealth to obtain good practice materials.
“Then aren’t common students at a disadvantage in the academy?”
“That’s not true. Seeing that there are nobles from various kingdoms gathered, it’s good to use them because they value face. I also made my first friend at the academy as an aristocrat, so I was able to live comfortably for three years and get good grades. Most of Setin’s professors are commoners, so it’s rather Professors need to look out for their students.”
“I think I know why nobles don’t teach.”
Glodia answered with a slightly bitter smile.
“Yes. Professors are living a social life.”
Ed sympathized with Glodia’s words, nodding his head silently.
Glodia went to the faculty office instead of the lab. When Glodia opened the door and entered, the professors in the office noticed the unusual purple hair and turned their attention to the man behind her. The professors aren’t talking, but ‘I brought a real necromancer.’ Everyone was thinking. While the professors were showing a cold reaction, a man directly involved in the situation got up and approached Glodia and Ed.
“Chief Kyu.”
The man Glodia called Dean Kyu had black hair and a ponytail. Ed, who was slightly smaller than Cymus, whom he had shuffled with yesterday, but who felt well compressed, had the impression that the man in front of him gave the impression that he was the strongest of the professors in the office.
“Professor Glodia. I’m resting at home, and I’ve been getting calls asking if a real necromancer is going to be an assistant instructor.”
“Sorry, but the head of department gave permission, so I thought it would be okay.”
Department head Hosen Kyu admitted that Glodia was not completely wrong. At first, Glodia submitted a crazy syllabus to bring in the northern monsters, and after compromising on it, it came down to ‘skeleton’. Thinking it was his karma for not completely drying Glodia, Housen slowly moved his gaze to the blue-silver haired necromancer behind him.
“The principal told me to ignore everything, so I ignored it, but I’m also a bit curious. Where can I trust that necromancer to enter Saetin? Because I need confirmation and verification. I’ll take charge now. Professor Glodia will have HR time, so it won’t be too late. don’t.”
“Yes. Head of department. Mr. Ed, take care of yourself.”
“Yes. Glodia.”
Glodia walked to her seat in the teachers’ room. Ed, who could no longer receive help from Glodia, reached out to Housen first.
“Ed Frozenborn, Necromancer.”
“Hosen Kyu, I am the head of Setin’s practice department.”
Housen took Ed’s outstretched hand without hesitation. Housen held his hand and examined Ed slightly, but there were definitely traces of training left on his arm. In Setin, there were an increasing number of students who were neglecting physical training, especially among noble students, which was a headache, but the fact that a noble with a family name trained this level of physical strength came to me a little favored.
“Do all necromancers in the North train like this?”
“Everyone cleans the foundation. Shouldn’t they be weaker than the skeletons they deal with?”
“It has to be stronger than the bones he commands. Then I will guide you to the person who is waiting for Mr. Frozenbone.”
“all right.”
Feeling the concern in Glodia’s eyes and the hostility of the other professors, Ed followed Housen out of the office. After passing the two counseling rooms next to the principal’s office, I reached the principal’s office and Housen knocked on the door.
“Principal. I brought a necromancer to verify the qualifications of an assistant instructor.”
Then there was a click and the door unlocked. The principal’s office, which Housen and I entered, was filled with white furniture, and there was a woman with white, golden hair that Ed had seen the other day. Before Ed could take a closer look at the two, Enild struck first.
“What’s your name?”
“This is Ed Frozenborn.”
“Ed Frozenborn. Why did you come down from the North?”
‘Did the interview start right away?’
Ed quickly began to answer as he remembered that it was the woman who had pointed the holy light spear at him.
“I came down because someone wanted me to leave.”
“What is the level of a necromancer?”
“Currently in 7th grade.”
“What are your first impressions of Cetin Academy?”
“The students are weaker than we thought. Huh?”
Ed tried to correct his mistake, but nothing else came out. After hearing Ed’s words, Enild said with a refreshing smile.
“I put a spell in the room that only tells the truth.”
Ed was quite surprised to hear Enild say that he had secretly taken over the space without his being aware of it. I had trained myself to be able to read all magic flows within a 25 meter radius, but the principal of Setin Divine Academy felt that the class was different.
“The students are weak… So will fighting the skeletons help them?”
“I think it would be good to experience it.”
“Then how about fighting the ‘Necromancer’?”
“I think it helps more.”
“Okay. The student next to me is Carter Rivera, the current student council president. He is a third year student and will soon graduate. I will decide whether or not I pass after watching Ed Frozenborn teach Carter.”
“This is Carter Rivera.”
The student who introduced himself as Carter Rivera slightly bowed his head. She had dark brown hair neatly cut and bright green eyes. More than her neat and beautiful appearance, Ed was slightly more concerned about the last name Rivera.
‘Where have I heard this before?’
As I was trying to recall my memories, Enild, who had been sitting, stood up and spoke to the three people in the principal’s office.
“Let’s not delay and go straight to the private sparring hall.”
“I don’t have any skeletons right now.”
“Professor Grace has it, right? Bring it to her.”
Ed’s decision to hire an assistant instructor depended on his sparring with Carter.
Ed immediately went to the principal’s office and with the help of Grace, who was still there, took three skeletons from the lab’s warehouse. And I asked Grace one thing.
“Mr. Grace, I think I’ve heard of Carter Rivera student council president Rivera somewhere…”
“It’s the name of a kingdom north of the Rica Coast. Maybe you heard it while riding the train down? And Carter is a princess.”
‘Am I supposed to teach the princess by beating her down using the power of the skeleton and necromancer?’
After thinking for a moment, Ed came to a quick conclusion.
‘If I’m smart enough to be the student council president, I’ll learn on my own.’
