Chapter 9: "Thoughts of a warrior"
-------------------------------------------
Gazef pov:
Gazef was riding as fast as he could. His eyes set on the horizon and his only goal to reach the near village as fast as he could before the attackers could burn it down. He was sent by the king of the Re-Estize Kingdom to hunt down and capture these invaders, but every village he and his man went to were massacred and only sometimes did they find survivors.
Gazef grit his teeth and tried the bring his horse to run even faster. Despite it being a trained war horse, it seemed to be out of breath and would soon need a break. He looked back at his man. Even though they looked poorly equipped they were an elite troop and much stronger than regular guards. They were warriors that trusted him and would die for him, the Kingdom or the King if they had to.
The reason for the bad gear was the continuous weakening of the kingdom. The War with the Empire, the rebelling nobles, and the Crime syndicate, the eight fingers were only a few reasons for that. He focused his eyes on the horizon again and it seemed his fears had been confirmed. Thick clouds of smoke rose into the sky. He narrowed his eyes.
"What a joke," he thought.
He was hailed as the strongest man in the kingdom but couldn't even save a few villagers. He signaled his man to slow down and get ready even though he was late. Maybe he could save at least some of the villagers. The reason for his obsession was his origins; he himself grew up in a village like this before he decided to follow the King.
His unit approached the village as they came closer, he could instantly feal something was wrong. The houses weren't burned down and despite the stench of blood nobody could be found. Where the attackers hiding in the houses? They instantly spotted 3 figures standing directly in the middle of the village.
The biggest one stood out immediately he was at least 2 meters tall. His robes seemed to be made of the most expensive material and a mask with gemstones hid his face. The next one was a man his clothes where simple, and he seemed like a normal typical villager. (I am not harassing Villagers.)
The last person was without a doubt female. She wasn't hiding, but she stood a little bit behind the masked man. A dress that seemed to be at least as expensive as the man's robe decorated her pale body. She also wore gloves and a veil covert her face.
Gazef stopped his horse in front of the 3 people. "I am the warrior captain of the royal guard from Re-Estize Kingdom my name is Gazef Stronoff. The king is sending us because of the enemy forces that are causing mischief around here", he said.
"Thank the gods, we thought we were getting attacked again," said the villager.
Gazef looked at the man who spoke. "You must be the Village Chief but who is this?", he asked and looked suspiciously at the tall man and the pale woman.
"This is..."
"My name is Ainz Ooal Gown and the woman behind me is Oriana Arvish di Valentine. We are just two travelers who came through while the village was attacked and did what we had to do.", the big man interrupted the chief.
Gazef felt his heart swell with respect and gratitude he got off his horse and extended his hand for a handshake. "In the name of the crown, I express my thanks to you"
"Maybe we should get inside to discuss what happened here?", Ainz Ooal Gown suggested and pointed to a house.
"We should hurry then; it seems that you didn't came alone.", the woman interjected and pointed at the horizon. Dust clouds rose, probably kicked up by horses.
"Yes, I agree" spoke Gazef and made his way towards the house.
-------------------------------------------
"Captain, it seems the lady was right unknown forces have surrounded the village.", said one of the soldiers."
"Who are they anyway?", asked the woman called Oriana.
"They are using angel summons, so I think they are one of the holy scriptures from the Slaine Theocracy.", Gazef answered.
"So, they're in cahoots with the people that attacked the village?" Ainz asked.
"They wore armor from Baharut but they were probably from Slane and tried to trick us.", Gazef agreed.
"Is there something special about that village?"
"So, you don't know either Sir Gown."
The man called Ainz Ooal Gown starred outside the window. "They must really hate you.", he said.
Gazef understood the implication. "To think the Slane Theocraty wants to kill me."
Gazef looked out the window and observed the enemy, then he sighted: "Sir Gown would you be willing help me of course I will pay you handsomely?"
Ainz Ooal Gown looked at his companion and as if they had a silent conversation both shock their heads.
"I am sorry warrior captain, but we have to refuse."
"And what, if I would enforce your help by the kingdoms law?" Gazef tried to "negotiate".
"That would be the worst decision you can make, because we would put up a bit of resistance."
Gazef shook his head. "Alright, without regrets I will move forward.", he extended his hand.
"But I am truly grateful that you protected the village. Could I trouble you to continue with it?"
Gazef wanted to kneel, but a strong hand prevented him.
"Who would I be, if I would refuse the request of a cavalier. Don't worry, I will swear by the name of Ainz Ooal Gown that I will protect this Village.
With this words Gazef felt a weight lifted from his heard.
"Thank you, Lord Gown, now I can go in peace..."
"Take this with you." Lord Gown interrupted him again.
"A Gift? of course I will accept it with joy."
"Good luck captain, you will need it" added the woman mysteriously.
Gazef looked at his man, they were warriors fine and loyal man. How many of them would die today, because of him? He strengthened his resolve if they would die today...
they would take as many of these enemies with them as they could.
