Chapter 52: Chapter 69: Chat with Gigi
After a long and successful day of filming in Dubai, Derek and Gigi Hadid were sitting in a comfortable area of the set, where the production had set up an outdoor lounge. The sun was beginning to set, tinting the sky with orange and pink hues, as they enjoyed a few moments of rest before heading back to their hotels.
Derek, still wearing the elegant suit from the commercial, felt relaxed, despite the adrenaline of jumping out of a plane still coursing through his veins. Gigi, with her warm presence and easy smile, seemed to be in the same mood, stretching her legs on one of the plush couches.
"You did really well today," Gigi commented, breaking the pleasant silence. "It seems like you do this kind of thing all the time."
Derek laughed, shaking his head. "Well, jumping out of a plane is nothing new to me, but the rest... I can't say I'm used to changing from a uniform to a suit so quickly."
She laughed too, leaning forward. "I guess that's part of the magic of commercials like this. Not only do you get to impress with your skills, but you also get to show off your style. I was impressed."
"Thank you. And you were amazing too. You seemed so natural in front of the camera," Derek said, genuinely impressed by how easy Gigi was to work with, even with all the pressure of a big production.
"Oh, I've been doing this for so long that it's kind of become second nature. But I still love it when the jobs are creative like this, something different, you know?" She paused, looking around, as if reflecting on the day. "Also, it's always nice to work with people you know or have connections with your friends."
Derek smiled at that. "I knew you and Kendall were close, but I didn't realize you and Kylie knew each other well, too."
Gigi nodded. "Yeah, we're all really good friends. Kendall and I have known each other for years through runways and events, and Kylie has always been around too. The Kardashians and Jenners have kind of become like a second family to me." She paused and looked at Derek. "And now you're getting into that world, huh? What's it been like for you?"
Derek thought for a moment before answering. "It's been... interesting. Kylie is amazing, of course, and she's been really welcoming. And over time, I've gotten to know the whole family, too. They all have such a unique energy."
Gigi smiled at that. "Yeah, they really do. Kendall always talks about you, you know? She said you're 'the man' when it comes to being mysterious and skilled."
Derek laughed. "She's really curious. She always wants to know more about special operations and all that. Just the other day, she asked me about CIA undercover missions and what it would be like to fake your own death. I guess she watches too many spy movies."
Gigi laughed out loud at that. "That sounds just like Kendall! She loves a good spy story. And I bet you had to use all your patience not to give too much away, didn't you?"
"Absolutely," Derek replied, smiling. "I try to be as discreet as possible, but she knows how to ask good questions."
They laughed together for a moment, and the mood between them was light and friendly. Gigi's connection with the Jenner-Kardashian sisters made the conversation even more natural, as if they had known each other for a long time.
"So tell me, how has it been working with the girls? It must be kind of crazy, huh?" Gigi asked, changing the subject a bit as she took a sip of water.
Derek gave her a small nod. "It's definitely different from anything else I've ever done. Their world is so...public. I came from a background where everything was low-key, with secrecy and missions that no one ever hears about, and now I'm in this world where every move you make could end up in a magazine article."
"That's true. But I think you're handling it really well. Not everyone would be able to make this transition so easily," Gigi commented, her tone admiring.
Derek thanked her with a slight smile. "I try. Luckily, Kylie has been a great partner. She helps me stay grounded, and we always find a balance between our personal lives and what we show to the public."
Gigi nodded, clearly admiring the way Derek spoke of Kylie. "You two seem to be doing really well together. I'm happy for her. Kylie has been through a lot and deserves someone who treats her right."
"She's special," Derek replied sincerely. "I always want to do what's best for her and the kids. We're creating something really beautiful together."
The mention of the kids brought a sparkle to Gigi's eyes. "I love seeing the videos and pictures of you with Stormi and Aire. They seem so happy with you."
Derek smiled. "They're great. Every day with them is a new adventure. Stormi is full of energy, and Aire… well, he's starting to develop his own personality now."
Gigi watched him for a moment, clearly touched by the way he spoke of Stormi and Aire. "It's good to see you've found a place with them, Derek. I think you and Kylie are great together. And who knows, maybe you'll be married to one of the biggest businesswomen in the world soon."
Derek laughed, raising his hands in a gesture of surrender. "We're still enjoying the present. I'm in no rush."
"Well, if you need any fashion tips for the big day, you know where to find me," Gigi joked, winking at him.
The conversation continued to flow naturally, with Derek and Gigi sharing stories and laughs. She was incredibly easy to talk to, and he quickly understood why she was so close to Kylie's sisters. In addition to being a renowned supermodel, Gigi was down-to-earth, sincere, and full of life.
"I didn't know you spoke Spanish so well," Gigi commented at one point, referring to some interactions he'd had with the local production crew on set.
"Yes, I learned it during my overseas assignments. Especially in some Latin American countries. It ends up being useful, both in work and in personal life. And of course, it helped a lot on our trip to Medellin recently," Derek replied.
Gigi nodded with a smile. "It's always useful to speak multiple languages. I'm still working on improving my French."
"You'll get the hang of it in no time," he replied confidently.
As the sun set and the crew began to dismantle the set, Derek and Gigi ended their conversation on a light and friendly note, with the promise that they would see each other again soon, either at another photo shoot or at an event with Kendall and Kylie. The connection with the people around Kylie continued to grow, and he felt more and more a part of their world.
Derek knew that life with Kylie and her family would bring many adventures, and with friends like Gigi around him, he was ready to take on any challenge both professional and personal.
