The God of calamity’s wife: return of the 13th

Chapter 28: 28 The Zweihander

"This helps you to stay standing tall so that you don't submit to your opponent." Saoirse said reiterating the importance of his stance.

She adjusted his stance and he felt his feet more firmly grounded.

She made herself a long ice sword and then made one for him and handed it to him. He coated his hand in fur as he took it so that his hand wouldn't freeze just like she was doing and she explained to him the different parts of the sword.

"This part here is the blade," she said pointing to the sharp end, "and then we have the quillions, which separate your hand from the blade. The part you grip is here and then the pommel is here." She pointed to a ball-like part of the butt of the sword. This will balance out the weight like a counterbalance.

She demonstrated pointing the sword towards him at a slight angle and said, "the side of the blade that faces your opponent is the short edge and the long edge is the part that faces away. You can swing along the long edge to whack at your opponent, which is your initial move as you get in closer, and then the twirling that you see going on here as you counter attacks, you use the short edge for that.

She demonstrated whacking the sword towards his head, which he instinctively blocked with his sword and last minute she changed direction and whacked at the other side of his neck with the blade and stopped just short of touching him. "See I used the short edge to make a smaller movement like that."

He nodded and readied himself for her to come at him again. He held onto the sword with both of his hands and made sure his legs weren't too far apart, squatting a bit.

"It's fine if you squat with your legs, but you need to keep your back tall." She said and came over to adjust his stance. "Stick out your chest more and don't lean forward so much. I want you balanced up and down and firm.

When you lean forward and stuff like that, you're opening the window for your opponent to hit you before they hit your sword. The sword always leads your attack, not your body."

Then she adjusted his hands to be a bit higher. "The tip of your sword needs to point upwards and keep your hands high so you can react better. If your hands are all down near your belt like that, someone can hit you before they hit your sword."

He stood tall like she said and then she backed away, "now try hitting me." She said, "don't worry, I made the swords dull."

He stepped forward and wacked at her, hitting her sword with the best form he could. She easily countered and wacked at his neck, but not hitting it.

"I said hit me, not my sword. When you're in battle, you don't hit the persons sword you hit them!"

He looked nervously at her belly all round and slightly heavy. He gulped. "I don't know if I can do that." He admitted pleading her to accept his concerns.

"Also your body was leading again; don't step until you have swung your sword."

Then she added, "try to keep your sword in that upright position, when you swing too far, you're leaning forward again, submitting to your opponent.

Keep a dominance over your opponent, don't bow at them." She said ignoring his stares as she was used to werewolf culture where the she wolves were still a normal opponent.

Perhaps revered as she was Luna but still a ferocious opponent.

Sirius was just staring at her, wondering if he was indeed the one who did that to her and what it felt like to hold her when she wacked him in the head grabbing his attention.

Sirius rubbed his head, "huh?"

Then she demonstrated making a dramatic huge wack with her sword and took a step. "You see how I stepped because the sword pulled me?"

"right," she said seeing him finally paying attention, "so once I do that step, my swing is done. Then I go back upright again. The rest of the swing is just pulling me into a vulnerable position, so don't do it. Swing, step, stop. Then back up."

She sparred at him for a bit longer and then once he was getting the hang of it, she asked him, "do you know how to activate any magic inside yourself?…..Besides the shapeshifting I mean…if you can shift you must be a magical creature?"

She demonstrated what she meant, a step further that he could do with the ice by, taking the sword to do the ice she was doing earlier and painted the air with frost like she had done in the sky when she flew with him.

"I don't think I can do anything like that." He said still rubbing his head and other new bruises she had inflicted on him.

Saoirse nodded and thought about it a bit. "I guess it's more advanced anyways, but if you can incorporate any magic into your attack, your sword will become an extension of you. I don't have to use my hands to use my ice because it flows from my blade.

What flows from you if you think about it really hard? If you were to throw a punch, what is behind your power? I think anyone who is of the sons of Fenrir can pull power from within. We have magic in our blood- even vampires.

Sirius thought about it. "Well….I am the son of Hel. She is the goddess of the realm of Nifelheim. She has power over the dead. I mean…. so maybe I have some sort of power like that?"

"So you are a mix between Lokis two kids?" She asked, "Fenrir had a kid with his sister? She looked at him horrified."

Then she clutched her belly it was almost worse than Aksel if he had fathered her young.

"No no no no no." Sirius said protecting his mom's honor, he waved his hands around in defense, "Loki said someone else was my father… um a king called Alastor.

"The vampire king?!" Saoirse's eyes went wide. "Sirius! That is very dangerous!"

"Why?" He asked, I mean I know I'm a demigod but it's not like I know how to be one." He said.

"Because I've heard that Alastor is a demigod." She said, "Fenrir was his father, if you are a mix between two of Lokis direct descendants, then you have more of Loki's blood in you than Alastor does! Not only that! You should be able to do things that only Loki can do!

"Possibly different aspects of both of your parents! Like a… a partial god!

Sirius, if you figure out how to activate a sword, whatever magic flows from it will be unique to you, then you might be a…Sirius one day you might be a god!"

He looked at the sword and realized it was pointed towards her and he put it down, a bit terrified. "Is there a kind of sword I don't have to point at people then?" He asked.

She thought about it. "Well, there's something called a zweihänder, but it's pretty bulky. In fact, I'd say that might make you more dangerous than if you had a longsword. But you would get to point it at the ground.
