The Godslayer's Legacy

Chapter 5: Part 4: Asha and the Book of Healing

The evening sky in the small town of Lumina glowed golden, illuminating the windows of the hospital where Asha worked. The 25-year-old woman was carefully bandaging the scraped knee of a child who had fallen off his bicycle. Her hands were skilled, her movements gentle, and her smile brought comfort to her patient.

"All done," she said, patting the child on the head. "Be careful next time, okay?"

The child nodded with a big grin before running off with his mother. Asha straightened her back, wiping the sweat from her forehead. Her days were always busy, but she never complained. Being a doctor was her calling.

Yet lately, Asha had felt a sense of emptiness. She loved her job, but there was a void inside her she couldn't explain.

That night, after all the patients had left and the hospital lights were dimmed, Asha decided to take a shortcut home along a path she rarely used. The road was dark, lit only by the faint glow of the moon.

As she crossed a small, deserted park, her eyes were drawn to an object lying beneath a large tree. It was an old book with an emerald-green cover adorned with carvings of leaves and flowers.

Asha hesitated as she approached. "What kind of book is this?"

She picked it up and felt an odd sensation, as if the book were alive. When she opened it, the pages were blank, but a soft light began to emerge from within, forming words written in an unfamiliar language.

Suddenly, a gentle but firm voice echoed in her mind. "Asha, you have been chosen."

Startled, Asha dropped the book and looked around, but there was no one in sight.

"Who… who's speaking?" she asked, her voice trembling.

The light from the book grew brighter, and a woman's figure emerged from it. The figure radiated a calming aura, with hair that resembled woven leaves and eyes like morning dew.

"I am Elaris, Goddess of Healing and Nature. You are a gentle soul, a protector willing to sacrifice everything to save others. You have been chosen to carry the power of healing to the world of Elyndra, which faces a rising darkness."

Asha stared at the figure in disbelief. "Elyndra? Darkness? I'm just a doctor. What could I possibly do?"

Elaris smiled softly. "Your power is far greater than you realize. With this book, you will be able to heal wounds, restore life, and protect those in need. But this power comes with great responsibility. Are you ready to embrace this destiny?"

Though fear and confusion gripped her, Asha felt the answer deep within her. "If I can save more lives, then I'll do it."

Elaris nodded. "You have the heart of a savior. But this is only the beginning of your journey. You will face great trials, Asha. Use this power wisely."

The figure of Elaris vanished, and the book began to shine even brighter, enveloping Asha in a warm green light. When she opened her eyes again, she was no longer in the park.

Asha found herself in the middle of a dense forest filled with towering trees. The air was fresh, carrying the scent of leaves and wildflowers.

"Where… am I?"

Another voice answered her. "You are in Elyndra, a world that needs your help."

Asha turned to see a figure clad in white robes holding a glowing staff.

"My name is Archeon," the man said. "I am the guardian of this world. You are one of the five chosen by the gods to fight the darkness that threatens to destroy Elyndra."

Asha frowned. "Five? So I'm not alone?"

Archeon nodded. "That's correct. You will meet the others soon. But for now, you must learn to understand your power. That book is the legacy of Elaris, and within it lies healing magic that only those with a pure heart can wield."

Asha opened the book again, and this time, the pages were filled with glowing text. When she touched one of the pages, the words transformed into light and flowed into her hands. Instantly, she felt her body filled with a warm, soothing energy.

"What am I supposed to do?" Asha asked.

Archeon gave a faint smile. "For now, learn to master your power. You will soon face your first trial—a test that will prove you are truly worthy of being one of this world's protectors."

Asha gazed at the book in her hands, her fear and nervousness mingling with a sense of great responsibility. She didn't know what lay ahead, but she resolved not to disappoint the goddess who had entrusted her with this power.
