Chapter 37
Chapter 37: The Turmoil of the Gildrug Kingdom (Part 5)
“Father!! Brother’s surprise attack was a success!! He has captured members of the Royal Family as prisoners!!”
“Is that so?”
Upon receiving the report, the former Duke of Zabeil, Hector Zabeil, quietly smirked at his other son, Yuan.
Yuan felt a shiver run down his spine at his father’s smirk. But it wasn’t out of fear—it was the trembling of a warrior who knew the time had come.
“Father… So the time has finally come, hasn’t it?”
“Indeed, those arrogant fools from the capital… Let’s make them understand. To battle!!”
“Yes, sir!!”
Upon receiving Hector’s command, Yuan responded with a single word and dashed out of the office.
“Ortas… The monster you awakened is truly terrifying. Well, I’m sure you’re realizing just how terrifying it is by now.”
A bitter laugh mixed with mockery escaped Hector’s lips.
“The First Stage is a success… Next is the Second Stage… We must hurry.”
After muttering this, Hector stood up, grabbed his sword, and left the office.
◇ ◇ ◇
When Hector appeared before the soldiers, their cheers echoed like thunder. Nodding once at their peak morale, he ascended the platform.
By the time King Jilvol had departed for the Royal Capital, Hector had already prepared his forces. And when the message arrived, they were already in the final stage of readiness.
Hector stood on the platform but remained silent.
Seeing that Hector wasn’t speaking, the soldiers realized he was waiting for them to quiet down. Gradually, silence fell, and the air was thick with tension. Though no one spoke, the energy was palpable.
“I’ve kept you waiting,”
were Hector’s first words.
“The day has finally come…”
At Hector’s next words, the soldiers’ energy surged even higher.
“The nobles of the capital have exploited us for far too long. I have petitioned the King time and time again. But the arrogant Royal Family and the central nobles have trampled over our heartfelt pleas for justice and fair compensation.”
Hector continued, scanning the soldiers.
(They look convinced… Anger is rising in their expressions. Just as planned…)
Hector nodded inwardly, satisfied that things were progressing as expected, and moved on to the next stage.
“Warriors of Zabeil!! Answer me!! Are our demands unjust!?”
‘No!!’
“Exactly!! They are not unjust!! But they refuse to accept our demands!! Is this justice!?”
‘No!!’
“The time for negotiation is over!! Now is the time to fight with our swords!! To reclaim what was taken from us!! To restore our trampled dignity, we must fight with our swords!! Yes!! There is no other way!!”
‘Wooooooooo!!’
With each of Hector’s words, the soldiers’ morale soared higher.
“The new Duke, Jilvol, has already declared war on the King and the nobles in the Royal Castle!!”
‘Ooooooooh!!’
“Shall we follow the young lion!?”
‘Woooo!!’
(This is the finishing touch.)
Hector sensed that the soldiers’ morale was nearing its peak and glanced at a soldier. The soldier nodded and gave a signal.
Then, several men, escorted by soldiers, appeared.
The expressions of the soldiers turned grim as they saw the men. These were the overseers sent from the capital to monitor the Zabeil territory. They had acted with impunity under the authority of the Royal Family and were despised like venomous snakes in the Zabeil territory.
But this time, the overseers showed no trace of their usual arrogance. Their faces were pale.
They knew what fate awaited them.
“P-Please, Duke!! Spare us!!”
“Help us!!”
“Have mercy!!”
The men began pleading for their lives.
Hector descended from the platform and drew his sword.
“W-Wait!! Please wait!!”
With a swing of his sword, one of the men’s heads flew off. Seeing the head fall to the ground, the soldiers’ excitement reached its peak.
“Now!! Let us revel in blood!!”
Hector grabbed one of the men by the collar and threw him toward the soldiers.
“Aaaaaah!!”
The man screamed the moment he saw the soldiers. It wasn’t a scream of realizing the end of his life—it was a scream of facing overwhelming bloodlust.
“Gyaaaaaaaah!!”
The men were stabbed repeatedly by the soldiers, ending their lives.
“It’s not enough!! Not enough!! Warriors of Zabeil!! We need more blood!! Let us revel in the blood of the nobles!! To battle!!”
‘Woooooooo!!’
At Hector’s words, the soldiers’ excitement broke through the roof.
(Everything is going according to his plan…)
Hector muttered inwardly at the unprecedented surge of morale.
