Chapter 39
“Stop it!! Help me!!”
“Nooooooo!!”
King Orutas II and Casaldia were wailing as they appeared at the execution ground. The subjects of the border count’s territory watched the scene coldly.
To the subjects, these were the symbols of the central nobles who had oppressed them for a long time. They might not have directly ordered it, but they believed that those who had long neglected and taken no measures should take responsibility.
“Duke Zabeil!! I beg you!! Please!!”
Seeing King Jilvol, Orutas began to plead for his life. Orutas knew it was futile, considering their past interactions, but he couldn’t help clinging to hope.
“Orutas, you must disappear.”
“W-wait!!”
“It’s not just about resentment. It’s to ensure that our House of Zabeiru doesn’t lose the support of the subjects.”
At Jilvol’s words, Orutas hung his head in despair. Having lived as a king, he understood Jilvol’s reasoning. That’s why he realized he was beyond salvation.
“Don’t mock me!! You are the ones who trampled on our peace!!”
This time, Casaldia screamed. But it was not logic; it was emotion. If logic couldn’t overturn the situation, then emotion might be the right tactic.
“Emotion at this point? Well, it’s a valid tactic. But such appeals are meaningless to us.”
“Ugh…”
“You two will die here. That is unchangeable.”
“W-what do you mean…?”
Casaldia stiffened at Jilvol’s words, sensing something ominous.
“You understand, don’t you? Your three children have their uses. With luck, they might survive.”
“What are you talking about?”
“I won’t explain further. You two will die. So, hurry up and die.”
“W-wait!!”
Ignoring Casaldia’s plea, Jilvol signaled the executioner.
Orutas and Casaldia were placed on the execution platform. Their arms were bound, and the axe was raised.
“Eek!!”
“Waiiiit!!”
Orutas and Casaldia struggled to escape the approaching death, but it was futile.
The spectators watched silently as the last king and queen of the Gildolq Kingdom met their end. But there was no sadness in their eyes—only the anticipation of an inevitable moment.
Jilvol waved his hand.
In that instant, the executioner swung the axe without hesitation.
Thud!! Thud!!
Two strikes echoed, and two lives ended.
“Woooooo!!”
At that moment, a roar akin to a beast’s howl erupted from the crowd. The cheer shook the air and the ground.
(Well… this is good. This cheer must have reached the pawns.)
Jilvol smirked inwardly.

“Father… Mother…”
Hearing the earth-shaking cheers, Demitul realized that his parents’ execution was over.
“Why… did it come to this…?”
No one answered Demitul’s murmur. Since the death sentence, his family had been separated and imprisoned, with Demitul confined to a solitary cell.
“I don’t want to die… I don’t want to die…”
Demitul muttered to himself. Gone was the arrogant crown prince; in his place was a young man terrified of death.
“Your Highness… Crown Prince…”
At that moment, a whisper came from beyond the door.
“Who’s there?”
Demitul felt a glimmer of hope. The fact that they called him “Crown Prince” suggested they were on his side.
“We’ve come to rescue you.”
“Rescue…?”
“Yes. They’re focused on the execution of Their Majesties. Now is the time to escape.”
The sound of clinking keys echoed, followed by the click of the lock.
Creak!!
The door opened to reveal men clad in the uniforms of Duke Zabeil’s army.
“Hurry!!”
“But… where would I even go?”
“To the Galveit Kingdom.”
“Galveit…? Out of the country?”
“Yes. At this stage, there is no force within the country that can oppose Zabeiru.”
“True… but…”
“Please hurry!! This is your last chance.”
“What about Lukult and Sosua?”
At Demitul’s question, the men exchanged uneasy glances and silently shook their heads. It meant his younger brother and sister were no longer in this world.
“N-no…”
“We couldn’t save them… We apologize… But at least, Crown Prince, escape to Galveit and rebuild the Gildolq Kingdom.”
“Damn you… Jilvol!!”
Demitul’s growl made the men glance around nervously.
“Your Highness… Quickly. Suppress your anger for now.”
The man’s tone had a slight edge. Raising one’s voice in such a situation was hardly the act of a sane person.
Demitul frowned slightly at the man’s tone but understood that he needed their help to survive. He swallowed his anger.
“Understood. Lead the way.”
“Yes.”
Demitul disappeared, led by the men.
At almost the same time, Second Prince Lukult and Princess Sosua also vanished.
